Things that my car is NOT faster than....

So i've had my car for 3 weeks now. It's a great car so far...fast, quiet, more ninja-like than my 99. Well, i've been wanting to get into a little 'fun' with cars to see just how fast it is. But one problem, every car that has actually wanted to go has been something crazy and out of my league....

-2006 BMW M6 (500hp)
-Ferrari F430 (510hp)
-Mercedes AMG E55 (470hp)

WTF? All i get are 500hp cars that want to run....argh. I guess that idea of building a block and going for ~400rwhp isn't such a bad idea afterall lol. Seriously though, it's fun to run these cars..... in all honesty, none of the cars really straight up walked off on me. Sure they pulled (the M6... ok, it might fall under the 'stomped me' catergory), but none of them jsut took off like it was nothing.Or maybe they were fucking with me. The AMG was the closest in speed... just kinda pulled away slowly.

I also noticed when i got home tonight that i have an exhaust leak somewhere near the turbo.....argh.

I got stomped by a new v6 camry:confused: with my 5psi 91 the other night,

I guess i need to go file for my tax return!

RotorNutFD3S 01-27-2008 03:23 AM

Eh, you'll get your chance with something more suitable, just be patient. :)
And I just dealt with a leak, so I feel your pain.

magnamx-5 01-27-2008 04:07 AM

just go find some pesky mustangs to play with. But never underestimate the 1MZFE god i love that motor. ;) Some Noz would make things alot more interesting for them as well.

m2cupcar 01-27-2008 11:06 AM

damn, I don't know how you get these guys to even try. I've had one "worthy" car- new m6 - and that's in two years.

Ben 01-27-2008 11:28 AM

You have to actually drive the car in order to "race" it.
I played with another FI miata on I-85S Friday AM.

paul 01-27-2008 11:37 AM

i haven't had anyone try to challange me since i installed the gt2560r. it's a shame. in my daily driver miata, which looks the same but is slower than a minivan, i get people everyday in mustangs, GTOs, camaros, and the typical assorted ricers. some day it'll happen, they will pick the wrong car, just wish that day was today.

Raced the M6 up on 85s near Hamilton Mill

Played with the F430 on 85s from Jimmy Carter all the way to mid-town

Messed with the AMG on the outer loop of 285 from Roswell Rd to Chamblee-Dunwoody.

I go out "fishing" on weekend nights...it's where i drive around on the interstate in the righgt lane and wait for cars that might want to run to pass by in the left lanes. Also, i was trying to brake-boost with the AMG but never got a chance to..... it might have helped me out lol.

RotorNutFD3S 01-27-2008 12:46 PM

If that's the case, you should head out with me and the RX7 guys you saw me with last time in Gwinnett. People love messing with us, and the looks on their faces pretty much say, "Why is a Miata in that group?"

kotomile 01-27-2008 12:56 PM

I'm sure after one look at your car, they understand why a Miata is in that group ;)

elesjuan 01-27-2008 03:00 PM

I picked a fight with an F355 and an F430 once.. I thought I'd do better than I did.

Also got my ass handed to me by a 2007ish 911 turbo... Oops.

Zarniwoop42 01-28-2008 01:01 AM

yeah, but in my defense, new v6 camrys have more than 250 hp at the crank.

im gonna need a bit more than 140-150ish(I realy have no idea, but i think this is probably in the ballpark for my hp at the crank) to beat that

Bryce 01-28-2008 01:12 AM

The base Greddy kit seemed slow compared to the cars I raced. Couldn't even pull away from a Mazda 6.

firedog25 01-28-2008 02:00 AM

My car is not faster than a lot of shit, but I bet I can drive better than about 99% of those people behind the wheel of those cars faster than me.

Unfortunately there is no skill in going fast in a straight line... it's all about power.

m2cupcar 01-28-2008 09:32 AM

I think it's an in-town thing. The M6 run-in was in alpharetta. But yeah, I only do about 2-3k miles combined driving per year.

No skill? You need to put a good drag racer in your car and watch him spank you.

Zabac 01-28-2008 09:45 AM

i was in my friends MK4 golf last night and he tried to get a convertible carrera to play, but would not do...the guy looked a little scared, oh well

Yup, there is NO skill required once you're rolling at 40mph. These "runs" i got into were all "from a roll" not a dig and don;t require anything but putting your foot down on the gas. Now drag racing from a dig requires much more skill to launch the car properly... i do know this.... it's also how i used to kill a lot of cars out street racing years ago with my Miata. Dig run + 4.10 torsen = fun. Dig + one tire fire for a SRT4 Neon = not going anywhere lol.

patsmx5 01-28-2008 10:30 AM

No skill is wrong, you gotta know When to shift to maximize torque at the wheels at any given time. You have to be quick and precise with your shifts. If you are traction limited that requires skill as well to maximize the traction that you do have without wheelspin. I guess if your in an automatic camry it does most of this out of your control, but a manual trans miata with more than double it's stock hp is another story.

ray_sir_6 01-28-2008 04:23 PM

You too?

I used to do that every weekend. Drive at the speed limit in the right lane and wait for the fast cars. Sadly, I don't get to do that much anymore (haven't in 2 months) cause most of the cars I run into are just too slow to waste my gas on. They are all Stang GTs, Civics, 240s, etc. Hell, I have a Mach1 that used to rev at me coming to work every morning, till we finally got a chance to run, and I pulled him hard. Now he just ignores me. All the "fast" cars (LSx, STi, Evo8, etc) ignore me, too, which is upsetting, cause I know I am faster than a mostly stock Evo, and STi, but they won't let me show them. Never ran a LSx, but not for lack of trying. They just don't want to run a Miata, it seems. Afarid of losing? Maybe.

To a degree, yes i agree there is skill with shifting, traction and brake boosting at the right moment. But something tells me there isn't much skill involved with pushing the throttle down on a automatic V8 sedan:cool: (the AMG).

Mach929 01-28-2008 06:05 PM

i never get anything either, best car so far was a gti 1.8 with at least an exhaust, pulled on it pretty bad. when i cleaned my car to take it to my grandparents for winter storage i got behind a new mustang gt with a license plate frame that said "procharger.com".....i tried but he didn't want to play

I have to call and see if and when they're going out. It's not an every weekend sort of thing, so I can let you know when it would be if not this weekend.

those frames are only good for a couple of hp apparently :gay:

Last night I put a E500 in its place on 85N between MoG and Hamilton Mill :fm:
