Thoughts on a BMW i135?

Have any of you guys looked at the BMW 135?

The looks are nothing to get excited about, but the idea of the turbo-six motor in a small chassis is appealing.

Jeff_Ciesielski 09-16-2010 05:56 PM

At the last dyno day I went to, the 135i that was there put down 420hp and nearly 500 ft-lbs of torque with very minor mods. I was impressed.

18psi 09-16-2010 05:57 PM

Its AWESOME.
The turbo6 is sweet, and becomes a total torque monster with a reflash and exhaust.

Though the 335 looks so much better and the weight gain is so small I'd just get one of those.

Efini~FC3S 09-16-2010 06:02 PM

not too mention the 335 is probably easier to drive and more stable because of the longer wheelbase

jbresee 09-16-2010 06:04 PM

Yeah, but the price delta is pretty steep on the 335. If you are gonna put down for the 335, it's only a short hop to the M3... and that's where I really want to be.

I need a pretty sick liquidity event to justify an M3.

Reverant 09-16-2010 06:13 PM

Don't forget to get an LSD for any of the 135, 335!

Full_Tilt_Boogie 09-16-2010 06:31 PM

Tune + mild exhaust = 400+hp

do it ******

SO by your logics 240sx > Miata

The 1 series is awesome, 3 series is for cocks

adamhershner 09-16-2010 07:03 PM

Absolutely amazing! A friend of mine had one, reflash and catless dp were the only mods, quite probably the fastest car I have ridden in/driven. Easily the best handling, plus it has nav, leather, etc. The steering feel was just amazing, better than his old E36 M3. I'd have one in a heartbeat if I had the liquidity.

That's a bit of a stretch.

levnubhin 09-16-2010 08:39 PM

I think they look awesome. I like the short stubby look and the performance speaks for itself.

It looks like a choad.

A widebody 1 series would be tits.

TurboTim 09-16-2010 10:06 PM

I heard the direct injection likes to stop working on those twinturbo 6's? They went to a single turbo on the new ones. This is something the CEO of my company said one day while getting coffee.

gospeed81 09-16-2010 10:18 PM

I got smoked...BAD...by one of these on one of my favorite local curvies. Don't know what he'd done to it, but he disa-fucking-peared.

No LSD exists for either car. Good luck with that.

The 135i and the 335i weigh about the same...don't be fooled by the appearance of looking "small"...it's still pretty heavy.
I've had to remind a few of them that there are faster cars out there :giggle:

jtothawhat 09-16-2010 10:30 PM

Looks pretty sweet with wheels, skirts and lowered...

Yeah, I've heard about this problem. It's a high pressure fuel pump that looks like it's engine mounted. They bork pretty regularly. It got bad enough that they stuck a 100k warranty on the pump.

The interesting thing is that the single turbo engine they switched to uses the same pump.

My fantasy is to buy one with euro delivery, pick it up in the winter and shoot up to Austria or the Swiss alps for a couple days.

redfred18t 09-16-2010 11:58 PM

awesome car, wish the prices were lower for them when I got my 335 because I probably would have bought one instead lol

Except no.

You're comparing apples to oranges, different OEMs, different suspension, etc.

I'm comparing a BMW to a BMW that have very similar suspension set-ups, etc.

mgeoffriau 09-17-2010 10:03 AM

I like the proportions of the 1 series...reminds of cars before they got so bloated. Taller greenhouse, lower trunklid, looks great to me.

sixshooter 09-17-2010 10:33 AM

Car and Driver:

DIMENSIONS:
Wheelbase: 104.7 in Length: 172.2 in
Width: 68.8 in Height: 55.4 in
Curb weight (mfr’s est): 3450–3700 lb

Even the little one is a fat chick.

Wat.
A friends brother has a 335i that had the turbos go bad (started leaking like crazy/something about overheating, I'm not completely sure what the case was).
BMW fixed it for free, but apparently that is also a common issue.

vw_nut 09-17-2010 02:57 PM

Nice looking car especially black with red leather. Great motor, heavy curb weight.

chicksdigmiatas 09-17-2010 03:07 PM

Well heavy cars are something we have to accept because everyone wants 27 airbags and such.
