Thoughts on RHD?

I had never driven a right hand drive car (or been in one) until yesterday. My friend calls me up and says to come outside and he shows up in this (cell phone pictures...sorry):

It is an R34 GTR V SPEC II NUR. :eek5: And it was by far the coolest car I have ever seen let alone drive in my life. The heads up display on the center dash is amazing, all digital. I used to be the biggest porsche fan, drove my boss's 997 turbo for a week and thought it was the ultimate. This skyline blows it out of the water.

What are your thoughts on right hand drive? I used to not a have a good impression, but you feel like a rockstar in this car. RHD FTW!!!

Surely it's not the RHD that won you over..

SloS13 12-14-2008 08:08 PM

I've driven a silvia a few times and rode in a skyline a couple times. Driving the silvia sucked.

I'd rock a skyline b/c I love them but things like miata's and silvia's have LHD versions so I think it'd be gay to have one of those.

while its original and different I'm just not a big fan at all. sure you could get used to it but its just nothing special imo...I dont think it was as much the rhd that impressed you as the car itself. looks like a really clean car, I'd love to see some interior/underhood pics.

Yea, you are correct. If I were driving a RHD civic (ctr) or even a RHD miata, it wouldn't have the same effect.

The car was extremely clean. Attached is a pic of the RB26.

so he can keep the oil cap, valve cover, and anything with the word turbo clean but not keep rust out of the engine bay?

Dark Wanderer 12-14-2008 08:35 PM

Damn! I'm usually not a big fan of skyline but this one is sexy!

LOL, you have to have priorities sometimes. I actually didn't see any rust when i gawked under the hood, but I was mostly looking on how they route the intercooler from the factory.

for me, the 2 cars i drove rhd were easier to heel-toe since the trans tunnel was on the opposite side, but that's about it. nothing else special.

Stevo11 12-15-2008 05:37 PM

RHD FTW for me definately!
Why? Well.. I'm right handed so prefer to keep it on the wheel, I feel it gives me more control (not so vital on the gearstick in daily driving).
I've driven many LHD cars when living/visiting abroad plus owned a LHD Mexi Beetle at one stage here too.

Can you drive a LHD car on the streets there? I ask you because they started importing a shit ton of cars from Japan here about 2 years ago and it got so out of hand that they just prohibited them. What most people do is import them and then send them to specialty shops to have them changed to LHD; but I really don't like that option.

Dark Wanderer 12-15-2008 05:59 PM

The problem's not the car, it's the retard who's behind the wheel. It's the same shit here: The big majority of people who buys JDM cars are some 18yr yo-kids who don't know how to drive.

In japan, australia, england there is RHD and LHD and there is not more accident.

This is a dangerous subject, both in the Content of the photographs and the whole "RHD" thing... You know, I have to say I've always enjoyed the R33 & R34s. Their body lines are just absolutely incredible and the performance potential of the cars are very impressive too. Only thing is, they're WORSE than a Supra in cost of performance accessories.

A local dyno/Speedshop owner here has a white R33 and a Silver R32. The 32 is bone stock and the 33 is his 'drag' car with tons of upgrades.. I nearly shat my pants after hearing what some of his goodies cost.

Always tend to think about the Ex Vi Termini guys down in the 'Outback' with their arsenal of 1000+hp R33s...

This car could nearly rip a dyno out of the cement floor;

RHD is AWESOME... for mail trucks.

Yeah, no problem, even insurance isn't loaded (well.. not noticeably anyway).
LOTS of Japanese imports here (incl some crazy midnight club style stuff).
