Newbsauce and myself are planning a trip to a dyno for a bit of tuning. I would like to see if an other locals wanted to make it out and get in on a good rate.

On a Dynojet 424x AWD dyno. Equipped with a 224xlc eddy current brake for steady state tuning.

The rates are great:
3 ppl.. 90/person
5 ppl.. 80/person

this is for an hour of tuning with an operator to run the dyno.

If you just want power pulls, it would be less for sure.

Brad and I are commited to go, but we figured we'd ask if anyone else wanted to hit it up.

we are lucky in this area. steady state dynos all over the place. All these shops love to do dyno days. I've seen some for $35 for three pulls, $40 with o2 log.

WARNING: Noob alert!

Do you guys know how to tune the hydra? I'm guessing I just let it sit for a few seconds at each of the cells as the dyno adjusts the load? I have no clue how to adjust my timing too... I'm a little afraid of that. I'm guessing that it'll take an hour to get my fuel map down though.

What pre-dyno prep work should I do? Oil change?

convince y8s to come out and help. He was invited, but doesnt need to tune on a dyno at this time.

When I went last with y8s, he threw on autotune, and then walked through each cell few a few seconds each to get a good reading. Took almost an hour there, having to stop and idle when doing boost as the coolant temps inevitably start to rise. He seems to be pretty happy in the tune right there.

Once he did his fuel, he start doing some power pulls and playing with spark at certain rpms. then a little vvt fiddling.

I'm not doing any maintainence before the dyno, just making sure the oil is full. I'll pretty much only be playing in boost and with spark (I honestly dont think I can dial my fuel in any better), however, I'm only familiar with the MS, and Y8s' hydra confused me with all it's features and GUI What I plan on doing is seeing what spark angle I start to ping, how retarding/advancing down-low effects spools, what spark advance gives the most torque throughout and what AFR gives the most torque.

Do they have a mic and headphones we can use to listen for knock? I don't know if that's a BS way of tuning but I've read that is the best way to check for knock. I don't know if I should trust the knock readout in my Hydra off the factory sensor.

no and you should be able to, the hydra's knock sensing abilities with the stock sensor is pretty good. It's hard not to hear on the dyno with someone standing at the motor.

i was gonna plan on coming anyway. not to dyno, just to get in the way.

and I wont tune your hydra. I will show you how to tune your hydra. how's that? I've learned a little since last time. for one, with the hydra's autotune it's pointless to waste time by hitting every cell. you can set it to "learn fast" and do a few pulls at various loads. much easier. and spark tuning is probably easier to do by doing a baseline and adding/subtracting 2-4 degrees to see changes in the power curve. it's impractical and hard on the motor to hold a car at 6800 rpm and 15 psi for very long without airflow. water temp goes up like nuts. just learn to compare graphs.

hey, I'd love to come. Maybe if I get the 550s in, retune (wait, haven't tuned much at all yet) and then get the turbo in this weekend and then do some more tuning and my clutch doesn't blow up I'll think about it. Then again I've never tuned a car before or installed a turbo so I'm probably gonna take it slow. But I would like to.
