Time to roll, thinking of selling

Hi all, been quite some time since I was on the site. Unfortunately the miata (aka rolling FM catalog) is sitting pretty much constantly and not getting driven or worked on. I bought a large boat last year and it is consuming my time not to mention the 20K or so I've spent this spring on maintenance. Benefit for large boat? Instant panty drop and lord knows I could use the help but I digress... So I feel bad with the car just sitting there and not sure what to do. I'd sell it for sure but thinking I'll get raped unless I part it out. Not looking to get rich here, half or less is normal for sure. Thoughts? sucks....

18psi 04-05-2012 05:15 PM

Thoughts?
Post specs/info/pics.

TorqueZombie 04-05-2012 05:40 PM

Am I safe to assume that your signature is the car being sold?

yep. Paint is original except for the bumper. Hardtop paint so-so but matches at least.

thymer 04-05-2012 06:12 PM

I'll try to post some pics tonight.

elesjuan 04-05-2012 06:33 PM

I will give you a moth filled wallet, rusting 95 roller, and a 2000 saturn SC2 roller for your car... :D

Sucks man, I'd rather have the car over nearly any boat.. Good luck with your choice anyway.

curly 04-05-2012 07:04 PM

Sell the boat, such a waste of money unless you're living in it. And then you're either a millionaire and you're not making this thread, or your a aqua redneck.

thymer 04-05-2012 08:47 PM

Totally diggin the boat though. Cruising up to a festival in a few weeks and looking to explore the Chesapeake bay this summer. Fuel capacity is 520 gal red diesel with a maximum range of 750 miles. I've fixed most of the PO's lack of upkeep and have the maintenance where it needs to be now. Have some final wiring to tie the bridge displays to the flat panel in the salon and bedrooms along with a camera in the engine room so you can keep an eye on things. Really fun to cruise around and the ice maker in the cockpit makes ice faster than I can spin up Margaritas.

thymer 04-05-2012 08:49 PM

Actually I might be a aqua redneck cause I like to scuba dive and live in the country! lol

jboogie 04-05-2012 09:30 PM

He said "bedrooms"....plural. Ya, that wins over a miata, as long as you have some other fast car that is.

gearhead_318 04-05-2012 09:48 PM

Boats are a hole in the water you throw money into. I don't mean to be rude, but if you can't afford to keep the miata and the boat, can you really afford to keep the boat at all?

Faeflora 04-05-2012 11:01 PM

Yeah. And engine room?

Whats the size of this yacht?

Doppelgänger 04-05-2012 11:26 PM

Drive the Miata in anger...you'll likely change your mind.

mx5-kiwi 04-05-2012 11:41 PM

Sounds like a really nice boat, along with the Miata photo's you should put up some of the boat!

LOL I hear you. I should add that I'm knocking on 50 and fitting in the miata kinda sucks with the aluminum seats and door bars... I picked up a 7 series e38 a little while back so that's my fun car for now. It's big and heavy but damn it goes like stink and corners pretty darn well too! :)

Boat is a Silverton 42 convertible. Kind of a combo fishing boat and pleasure yacht. It has a nice open cockpit in the back for fishing or scuba diving and a nice big bridge up top. You give up some inside space with the cockpit (I have 2 bedrooms, one bath. A 42 aft cabin would have 3 br and two bathrooms) but I like the flexibility. Two Cummins 450C 8.3 liter straight six turbo diesels (big ass turbos) 450hp each, 1400 ft-lb's. Here are some stock pics. Mine looks exactly like this but I have a enclosure on the bridge for the cold months.

Isn't everything pretty much a hole that we pour money into? Reminds me of a girl I used to date! It's not about money, that's not the issue. It's about the car sitting and not getting used. Saved up for 7 years for the boat so I only financed half of it and that is a mortgage that is written off as a second home. Will move up to a 50-55 in a couple years and maybe retire on it.

Braineack 04-06-2012 09:31 AM

who cares about the boat. i wanna see this miata.

Thanks man. I think I figured out a few years ago that it's the journey for me, not the destination.

"Jesus, get a guy near water and everything is ------- nautical talk.."

Boat looks okay, but 1.5mpg @ >$4.00/gallon KC Land diesel price?? Fuuuuck. That.

Nick-7 04-06-2012 09:19 PM

2 Cummins Diesels, that's crazy!!

Veggie Fuel?

hornetball 04-07-2012 12:10 AM

Engine only needs to be idling enough for AC. It's all about puntang.

Hey dude . . . keep the Miata, sell the boat, do internet porn. Your retirement will thank you.

Besides, I'd hate to think I'd be the only one left here in the age group.

I'm 50. Today, after replacing springs and alignment bolts, I feel closer to 70.

And a bit of contortionism on the side.

:vash: Here's looking at you, under the dash! I'll never understand how some of the people in here get under the dash without disjointing a joint or some crap.

I take seats out nowadays.
I figure, if it's in my way, screw it! It's coming out!

rmcelwee 04-08-2012 02:58 PM

So, we all want to know how much you want for the Miata...

curly 04-08-2012 05:02 PM

Whatever, I wanna see pics of the boat!

IcantDo55 04-08-2012 11:41 PM

Car is in excellent shape and very well built, seen it in person.

If you don't want it to just sit....let me know when and I'll stop by and put a few miles on it for you, no charge.:bowrofl:

BTW nice boat!

That is nice of you to offer! :) lol Thanks for the kind words.

jboogie 04-10-2012 09:46 AM

Your selling parts or the whole car, not really sure the point of this thread?

ThatGuy85 04-10-2012 01:24 PM

You never EVER get the amount of money out of the car that you put in if you sell it whole. People are cheapskates when it comes to modified cars, even ones that are flawlessly built.

You'll probably get more money if you part it out and return it to stock. But if you stick to your guns, you might find the right buyer that will give you the asking price, but that might be a long wait.

Also, +1 on pics of the boat.
