I always wanted one so I sat in it and my head hits even without a helmet. So disappointed. And the seat is on the floor so it won't go lower. Maybe it could be leaned back, idk. I can tell you to never get into or out of it with people watching you, because you won't look cool. It is a really convoluted process involving stretching at odd angles.

Not done yet. Had issues with strength of charging system of all things. This was the second dyno tuning attempt. The first time the fuel system came up short under higher boostststs. He's using the newest AEM ecu and it controls all sorts of nice things. He is using dry NAWS as a spool aid and it is controlled by the AEM to only come on after a certain wheel speed, and rpms are achieved and then cuts off at a certain boost level after spooling is accomplished. A 50hp nitrous shot yielded him a 150hp bump in his spooling up section of the pull at the same rpm level in preliminary tuning. More to come on that as things develop.

Yeah, he is very meticulous. He builds a permanent jig for every system he builds so that if another LP540, Superleggera, or Ford GT comes in wanting a kit after the first one he can build it quicker and more precisely. All of the cars under black covers in the background are Lambos of various sorts. Some are already TT and some are getting kits built and installed. He is very meticulous as a tuner as well.

I deleted the picture of the twin turbo Viper I took because it was a little blurry. I guess I should have kept it for you guys.

hustler 07-06-2011 05:14 PM

So, what do all these great cars do when they leave the shop? Do they sit in a garage and collect dust? Do they run the TX mile? What do you do with a $300k Ferrari with $100k of turbo? Probably un-Ferrari-like things.

You get bitchez

Doppelgänger 07-06-2011 06:34 PM

The Factory Five looks way too much like a over-kitted Corvette.

Joe Perez 07-06-2011 06:53 PM

Yeah, I guess I can see that. The fundamental stance is similar.

To me, it evokes more of a Noble / Ford GT / Koenigseggisseggggnignigsegigisegggg sort of image.

The Ultima just seems like it's trying too hard. The bubble canopy and outlandish front fenders just say "Batmobile" to me.

Doppelgänger 07-06-2011 07:01 PM

Mmmmm Noble. The M12 is such a good looking car. I do see the Ford GT in the windshield/a-pillars though. I think I like the Ultima because it's rather small.

Joe Perez 07-06-2011 07:08 PM

That's the real tragedy of any kit car that isn't specifically a replica of something. No matter what you do, people are always going to be dissecting it and fan-wanking about what bits of the design you stole from where.

That said, I would already own two 550 Spyder kits if somebody made one that didn't weigh a ton and didn't also use the shitty torsion-beam suspension and swingaxle transmission from an early-model VW Beetle.

One of their cutomers (either Lambo TT or Viper TT blew a tranny or something at the standing mile in south Florida iirc.

The guy with the Ferrari already had a Lambo that was TTd by them and was hating how slow the Ferrari felt.

I saw one of their customers blow the tailhousing out of the tranny on a Viper TT at the dragstrip in Bradenton because he was wheelhopping on street rubber.

Some of them probably park theirs in a showroom but most of them seem to try to fuck them up so that they can spend more and get more outlandish.

I like the interior of the FF GTM EXCEPT for the crappy autometer gauges. Autozone special! Barf.

My next non DD car will have to be one of those kit cars.

Funny you say that about the GTM because the Ultima GTR was designed by Lee Noble.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Noble

Anyways, I'll take the GTR with a twin turbo LS something with around 1000whp.

You can put whatever gauges you want in the GTM dash.

With the Ultima, you're stuck with that Prius-inspired center cluster and World-War-2-aircraft-cockpit styling no matter what.

Is this more to your liking?

And the bodywork of the Karmann Ghia (the third sexiest car ever created) was designed & built by the same folks who did the Merkur XR4T and the Nissan Micra.

As they say in investment infomercials, past performance is not a guarantee of future results.

I know of at least one Ultima with a Miata gauge cluster in it :)

Aaron was busting his ass! He works and pushes himself so hard. I know it has to be bad for his health. His attention to detail is amazing and most of the welding is his work. He's been training another guy lately, too, so some of that may be his.

Small world.

I would really like a larger tach and have it mounted directly in front of the driver. It could easily be done any way you want. I would get my upholstry guy to move the center binnacle over and redo the material as necessary.

Miata gauges are actually laid out pretty well.

This car was supposedly getting a Ford GT powertrain. Ack. I would prefer Toyota power, too. Like the 3UR-FE or the 2UR-GSE with TT.

People who sell them seem to think so with the price tags. :giggle:

I like the R33/R34 and all, but they're not even remotely worth what they sell for.

High end by virtue of it's USDM rarity.

I actually worked with him also. The kid can weld, and was dreaming this stuff up back in the day on much cheaper applications..... He was WAY smart. That place is perfect for him.

sixshooter 07-07-2011 12:23 PM

The R32 was a Saturday morning side project for the tuner. They don't do cars like that there.

Edit: What is rare is one that is 50-state federal legal like this one.

Before all of these new mods it was making 733awhp on an ancient ECU. Between the new parts and Aaron's expertise he thinks it will do a little better. BTW, Deatschwerks 1600cc injectors can idle just fine on pump gas.

There's a VERY slight chance the car is 100% Federally legal. My old man used to import grey market Mercedes Benz, Porsche, etc. in the late 70s, early 80s as a little side business and his buddy focused on higher-end stuff (Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc.) and one of the first (and few) dudes to bring in a Ford RS200.

Anyway, bottom line is if you want a car in the US legally, this is the guy to talk to. A few years back my neighbor was selling an R34 GT-R (lol, right?). I was in high school so my dad was just going to buy it for me because he could appreciate the rarity, decent performance, etc. but was hesitant because of the Florida registration (the specific car was brought in by Motorex but of course wasn't one of the few blessed R33s they somehow got legalized). Now, this was in 2004, when my dad got around to calling his buddy and asked about the Skyline he had to hold the phone away from his year. Homes was in such an uproar because at that point he was getting multiple calls a week about bringing in Skyrinez. What he said was you simply can't.

I'm always suspicious of all the "FULLY LOLEGAL THKYRINE, THUPRA..." ads you see. Most of the time, the cars are junk anyway but they're soooo JDM.

Yeah, I can imagine what that would do with a "built" engine instead of a stock one. I have to say I am not very impressed with the quality of the welding on the smaller box tubing that makes up the majority of the Lambo's structure back there. I don't have any good pics of it but I think ARTech and ABSURDflow would definitely make a much prettier frame.
