I deleted the picture of the twin turbo Viper I took because it was a little blurry. I guess I should have kept it for you guys. |
So, what do all these great cars do when they leave the shop? Do they sit in a garage and collect dust? Do they run the TX mile? What do you do with a $300k Ferrari with $100k of turbo? Probably un-Ferrari-like things.

Call me crazy, but I really prefer the look (both inside and outside) of the Factory Five GTM over the Ultima.

The Factory Five looks way too much like a over-kitted Corvette.
|
Yeah, I guess I can see that. The fundamental stance is similar.
To me, it evokes more of a Noble / Ford GT / Koenigseggisseggggnignigsegigisegggg sort of image. The Ultima just seems like it's trying too hard. The bubble canopy and outlandish front fenders just say "Batmobile" to me. |
Mmmmm Noble. The M12 is such a good looking car. I do see the Ford GT in the windshield/a-pillars though. I think I like the Ultima because it's rather small.
|
That's the real tragedy of any kit car that isn't specifically a replica of something. No matter what you do, people are always going to be dissecting it and fan-wanking about what bits of the design you stole from where.
That said, I would already own two 550 Spyder kits if somebody made one that didn't weigh a ton and didn't also use the shitty torsion-beam suspension and swingaxle transmission from an early-model VW Beetle. |

You're crazy. Ultima > GT IMO.. Once again, I would dump Casey Anthony in a creek with duct tape for a Koenigseggisseggggnignigsegigisegggg..... |
I visited the Ultima Sports factory in Leicester before the GTR came out.

The guy with the Ferrari already had a Lambo that was TTd by them and was hating how slow the Ferrari felt. I saw one of their customers blow the tailhousing out of the tranny on a Viper TT at the dragstrip in Bradenton because he was wheelhopping on street rubber. Some of them probably park theirs in a showroom but most of them seem to try to fuck them up so that they can spend more and get more outlandish.

My next non DD car will have to be one of those kit cars. |

Funny you say that about the GTM because the Ultima GTR was designed by Lee Noble. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Noble Anyways, I'll take the GTR with a twin turbo LS something with around 1000whp. |

I like the interior of the FF GTM EXCEPT for the crappy autometer gauges. Autozone special! Barf.
With the Ultima, you're stuck with that Prius-inspired center cluster and World-War-2-aircraft-cockpit styling no matter what. Is this more to your liking? http://image.kitcarmag.com/f/9769352...acing_gtm+.jpg

As they say in investment infomercials, past performance is not a guarantee of future results. |

Sick welding!

This makes my pants tight. Love the welds and the cars said welds are on. +1 for the factory 5
|
I know of at least one Ultima with a Miata gauge cluster in it :)

I personally like the one with the Toyota 1UZ-FE and twin turbos. |

You can put whatever gauges you want in the GTM dash.

I personally like the one with the Toyota 1UZ-FE and twin turbos. This car was supposedly getting a Ford GT powertrain. Ack. I would prefer Toyota power, too. Like the 3UR-FE or the 2UR-GSE with TT. |

I like the R33/R34 and all, but they're not even remotely worth what they sell for. |

Small world. I actually worked with him also. The kid can weld, and was dreaming this stuff up back in the day on much cheaper applications..... He was WAY smart. That place is perfect for him. |
The R32 was a Saturday morning side project for the tuner. They don't do cars like that there.
Edit: What is rare is one that is 50-state federal legal like this one. Before all of these new mods it was making 733awhp on an ancient ECU. Between the new parts and Aaron's expertise he thinks it will do a little better. BTW, Deatschwerks 1600cc injectors can idle just fine on pump gas. |

Edit: What is rare is one that is 50-state federal legal like this one. Anyway, bottom line is if you want a car in the US legally, this is the guy to talk to. A few years back my neighbor was selling an R34 GT-R (lol, right?). I was in high school so my dad was just going to buy it for me because he could appreciate the rarity, decent performance, etc. but was hesitant because of the Florida registration (the specific car was brought in by Motorex but of course wasn't one of the few blessed R33s they somehow got legalized). Now, this was in 2004, when my dad got around to calling his buddy and asked about the Skyline he had to hold the phone away from his year. Homes was in such an uproar because at that point he was getting multiple calls a week about bringing in Skyrinez. What he said was you simply can't. I'm always suspicious of all the "FULLY LOLEGAL THKYRINE, THUPRA..." ads you see. Most of the time, the cars are junk anyway but they're soooo JDM. |

My old man used to import grey market Mercedes Benz, Porsche, etc. in the late 70s, early 80s as a little side business and his buddy focused on higher-end stuff (Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc.) and one of the first (and few) dudes to bring in a Ford RS200.
