This is correct, the sand porting story was from 2007, so not a contender. Just seemed like it was part of this years rash of failure threads.

The Mouglie thread had to have been from last year too, I shipped to basic January 3rd, 2009 and I remember the thread VERY VERY well, so had to have been a little while before that.

99mx5 12-31-2009 12:19 PM

That Mustang guy that ran water through his engine.

Efini~FC3S 12-31-2009 12:40 PM

The VW guy who cut his wheel up because he couldn't get a stuck lug bolt off???

Clearly that must be on the list, and it even happened in 2009.

SolarYellow510 01-01-2010 03:26 PM

I've been close to that. Some Corvette had had the lug nuts impacted on too many times, and when we tried to remove it, the splines came out of the hub. Nut seized on stud, nothing to keep stud from rotating. Spent waaay too long grinding the back of the stud off from inside the wheel.

Coins glued on the pistons to raise compression?

BTW- The idea of pouring sand into a running engine sounds ludicrous but something similar was actually recommended in a GM Service Bulletin in 1955. When the small block Chevy was first introduced the cylinders were honed to too fine a finish and the rings tended not to seat well during break-in. this created a problem with excessive blow-by and oil consumption. The service bulletin instructed technicians to add a tablespoon of Bon-Ami kitchen and bathroom scouring powder into the carburetor throat of the running engine. This powder abbrated the cylinder walls enough to cause the rings to seat.

There's #10, but not sure if it started in 08, but the thread was still going in 09!
