Top Gear America = Fail
Well, I finally watched my first episode of the American version of Top Gear. I figured by episode 5 (driving the old GM cars) they would have their shit together and be able to make a decent car show. I was wrong and I would like to have that hour of my life back please. I didn't crack a smile and didn't learn anything about autos that I did not know before. What a complete piece of shit! I'm not sure if they have cancelled the show yet but I'm sure the announcement will be coming soon.

its hard to do whats already been done.

Cry about it all you want, but when you're done get out a tub of chocolate Haggen Daaz and turn on Motor Week because that's the best American car show you'll see by default. Enjoy watching a bi-petal hippo crawl into a Buick and drive it around on cruise control.

Idea #1 - 71 Vette vs 2011 Vette Idea #2 - What is the REAL MPG of the current hybrid cars. Idea #3 - Which two seater gives you the most room for luggage. Idea #4 - Which super car gives you the fastest 0 to 100 to 0 for the $ Idea #5 - What car gives you the best MPG at 130 MPH. There, it took me 30 seconds to come up with that shit. Never once did the idea of putting eggs over someones head and seeing how many break when driving over a bumpy road or seeing which used car has the best emergency brake come to mind. I hope they lose a lot of money on this show. |
When does Adam Carolla's new show start? It surely can't be any worse than TGA,

I've never seen TG America, but that's a very TopGearUK stunt right there, if TG:USA did that it's only aping what the UK version does? |
One of TG's goals of TG America was for people to NOT compare it to the UK version, but that's just incredibly hard to do. I mean, I watch the show but only because some TG is better than nothing. It's not necessarily the show that sucks, its the hosts. Tanner Foust is great, but Adam Carolla and whoever the fuck the other guy is just look out of place and seem awkward and like they're reading off of cue cards the whole show.
The phrase "nothing is better than the original" comes to mind here.... Kristen |
Adam Carolla isn't on Top Gear American dude.

The first few episodes were lackluster, but I genuinely enjoyed the Key West race and the Las Vegas race - I found myself watching not because it's TG, but because it was genuinely entertaining television. The in-studio bits are still lackluster but they will be like that for the entire season since they were all filmed at once (I went to a taping session in LA). The in-car bits seem good, and the hosts have excellent off-screen chemistry (based on how they interacted with each other with the cameras off).
UKTG has had 15 seasons to get it right. Give it time - it's getting better, IMO. |

It's facebook with cars in the background. |

That's because it's not a car show. Most of the herd are too stupid to know how a car works, so they pander to the lowest denominator.
It's facebook with cars in the background. Is that any different than TGUK? Most of the audience in the UK don't even own or drive a car on a regular basis. |

It does suck. I swear I would do a better job as one of the hosts. I really mean that.
|
I've missed the last 3 episodes.

If one of their goals was NOT to be compared to TGUK why copy the British Leyland episode nearly verbatim.

I hoping by season two It'll be original.
|
I really like it.

I keep trying to watch it but I still can not stand the fat guy. Just looking at him make me change the channel. I'd rather watch decorating shows on HGTV with my GF that watch him. Boy do I hate him.
Although I'm as happy as a tick at a pound now that I've discovered that I can listen to Adam Corollas carcast on my ipod via pod cast. i've some how ignored that featuer of my ipod for way to long. |
You fail.
|
It's much better than watching most tv. A show about cars no matter how good or bad gets my attention. The latest episodes are much better than the first.

Most of the UK population own at least 1 car, it's not a 3rd world country you know |
I dunno, I just started watching TGUK from the beginning (not "old Top Gear"..) and TGUS is doing alright all things considered. Like Trey said, give it time. It's still better than any other car show on in America.
|
The truck episode was miles better then most of the season. Kinda hope next season (if it's not cancelled) is better.
|
I made the mistake of watching TGUK on netflix out of boredom, and I am disappointed with the American one again.

Most of the UK population own at least 1 car, it's not a 3rd world country you know Yea one car per household. Average households have more than one person. Leaving 49.5% of the population without a car as transportation. Since you equate the stage of a society with car ownership, by your logic London, Liverpool, Manchester, and Newcastle live at the same standards of third world countries. http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2...es/housing.asp The average household size is similar in England and Wales and is 2.36 people. This ranges from 2.31 people per household in the South West to 2.41 in the West Midlands. Cars or vans In England 27 per cent of households do not own a car or van while 44 per cent of households own just one, 24 per cent own two, 4 per cent own three and 1 per cent own four or more. The patterns and proportions are similar in Wales where 26 per cent do not own a car, 45 per cent own one, 23 per cent own two, 4 per cent own three and 1 per cent own four or more. In Inner London over half of households have no car. Outside London, 48 per cent of households in Liverpool and Manchester do not own cars and 45 per cent in Newcastle do not. In contrast, 6.3 per cent of the South East region own three cars and 2.1 per cent own four or more while in the local authority area of South Bucks one in ten households own three cars and one in 25 own four or more. The proportion of households owning one car is almost unchanged between 1991 and 2001 at about 44 per cent. However the proportion not owning a car has declined since 1991 from 32 per cent to 27 per cent and the proportion owning two cars has increased from 20 per cent to 23 per cent and three cars and more from 4 per cent to 6 per cent.
