I just looked through that entire thing. What an amazing car.
At first i couldn't figure out why they would try to restore such a rusted out POS.
The finished photos made up for it, what dedication.

lol another forum Im on posted this just a few hours ago, did this just get on the internet? Anyways, top notch restoration

wow, i guess you can polish a turd. don't know why they didn't search for a better specimen though

y8s 05-23-2007 10:55 PM

haha polish a turd... yeah i guess having a several hundred thousand dollar vintage-ish rallye car is a turd ;)

team toyota europe WAS the bomb.

they didn't look for another one probably because it was hard enough to find this one - a really old rally car is hard to find in good shape with most of the stuff still in it.

If it's value is as a historic piece, why upgrade it?

mazda/nissan 05-23-2007 11:40 PM

i'm doing kind of the same thing, just with a 77 celica and a ford 351, and set up for drag

turbopezz 05-23-2007 11:53 PM

go to pg 305 & 306 for before and after motor pics....

mazda/nissan 05-24-2007 12:02 AM

it all looks exactly the same, just one is old and funky and the other is new and shiny, but all of the parts look exactly the same

I'm referring specifically to the addition of the rails to the under-body. Imagine what a modification/improvement like that would do to the value of a 65 Corvette with a racing history or a Porsche 904. Guys from my dad's generation tend to be conservative and don't like their classics toyed with. Apples and oranges though.

I'll admit, though, that they probably know a hell of a lot more about their investment that I do. I haven't looked into the site any further, but they probably plan on racing it in a classic series.

I checked through some of the rest of their site - that's a historic(?) factory pro-rally car that was raced by Juha Kankunen in 85 WRC.

They do beautiful work.

I think they just sawed off the original frame rails because they had probably been landing on some rocks or boulders or mountains after jumps..... and had to weld straight ones back on.

You don't appreciate the amount of work it took to get to that point?

That is f*ing sweet. I can't wait to build a car that clean.
