tuning book
Its becoming more and more apparent that I will have to tune this car myself, because it seems that no one wants to do it because the last email I got from a tuner went like,
"Unfortunately, Megasquirt is one of the systems that i do not tune. My job as the tuner is to make sure the engine runs properly and from my past experiences with Megasquirt, i was not able to make that happen as it should. It's frustrating when the tool you're using to do your job does not do it's job as well as it should." So I think I need to buy a book and tune this thing myself. Any thoughts on what to read, or does anyone know of a good web page to teach me? I'd go to EFI 101 if I could afford it. |
drive to diyautotune. when I'm back in chicago I will grab my IC book. I would look for some engines book. Once you understand the process you can tune it safely.

The megamanuals go into this a bit. Have you gone through the tuning section?
http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mtune.htm There is always this too: http://www.msextra.com/manuals/MS_Ex...nual_Index.htm |

Here's a short read I had saved in my favorites.

http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/resources/rich.php I think I'll be able to do most of my start, fuel, and enrichments on the street, then fine tune spark, make a dyno queen pass, then turn the boost down to 250whp-worth. I'm starting to think I can do this. |
if you can dick around with the tuning stuff on the street and get the hang of it, I'm sure if you found a steady state dyno you'd be able to fine tune it yourself to.
|
I've been told to go to 14.0 at 100 kpa. Above that 12:1 just because fuel supposedly doesn't cool any better when richer than that. You'll have no problem tuning your enrichments on the street. You should have a fuel map close to what you will need to start tuning spark. Tune spark to where you make the most power in that cell. I've never done it though. I'd call jerry up i'm sure he'd talk you up about it. Or even an email so you have it in writing.

I don't get what was funny. If you are already beyond that books level I am sorry I suggested it.

Have you read it? I picked it up at the book store yesterday to check it out and its incredibly generic. Thanks for trying though.
You aren't looking for being on the bleeding edge of things, sounds like you are more worried about being safe. Safe numbers should be pretty easy to arrive at at the cost of ultimate performance. Maybe you should just ask your questions here, lots of good experience with <gasp> Miatas and the MegaSquirt. What is it that you want to know? |
