Anybody catch this on NGC last night? A bit light on content, but lots of very pretty pictures.

Ya, I watched it from 11-11:30. After that I was just too tired to continue. I still like the Ferrari version of that show that I saw on the Science channel better. Plus I like Ferrari more anyway.

I stayed up late just to watch that one. I would love to live around that plant just to see the next model roll out for the test drive that they do in the town nearby.

I hope someday they make a miata shell out of carbon fiber.:giggle: Won't happen but it would be cool.

I had seen the Ferrari one and was beyond impressed.

Missed this one as I had a killer exam late last night. Drove home and crashed.

It's worth grabbing a torrent just to see the in-factory shots.

A lot different from the Ferrari factory, where everything is all under one roof. These guys outsource a lot of the dirty work, such as painting the bodies and wheel fab. Actually, it was cool to see the wheels being made (in the USA). I'd never seen the actual process of forging a wheel before.

The final-assembly area looks more like a the sort of place where you'd assemble industrial air conditioners or military helicopters than an automobile plant. No moving assembly line at all, just a bunch of discrete work cells where the car gets pushed (by hand) from one to another.

It's actually pretty much what I'd expect of Lambo. Just a step or two above knocking 'em together in a barn.

I watched an episode of Discovery HD Rides about lambo. They showed lots of content about the factory and it didn't look a step above knocking stuff together in a barn...looked fairly sophisticated.

The chassis bolted to a rotisserie on wheels and was moved down the assembly line while worker bees attached parts. The engine stuff was amazing.

yeah the Ferrari one was especially neat. Kind of cool that their engine assembly room had a glass ceiling and trees everywhere. Sorry Joe, I missed that :ohnoes:

I meant the organization and workflow, not the working conditions.

At Ferrari, IIRC, the cars go down an assembly line just like in any other auto factory. At Lambo, there's just a big, open room (albeit a very clean & well-lit one) where 14 cars at a time get pushed around in a circle on little trolleys.

I loved how, when they were interviewing the bigwig, can't remember if he was the prez or what, he described Lamborghinis as being (and I'm paraphrasing) "The loudest, most extreme, most exotic, (blah blah blah) supercars on the road." You could tell that he was being very careful not to make any claims about them being the fastest. It'd frustrate me greatly to be in that sort of situation.


The Ferrari episode was pure awesome, though. Kinda cool that they actually mix the alloys and pour the engines by hand right there on the premises. And such attention to detail being paid by the folks who were hand finishing the sand-cast plugs prior to being assembled and poured.

The Romeo and Juliet machines were what got me about Ferrari.

Chilling the valve seats before putting them in the head, where they expand as they heat back up for a superior fit.
