So I think I just bought myself the best present in the world, and something Ive always wanted for a long time............ A PUPPY!!! he is a full bred siberian husky and his name is Bane






Anyone have any tips on training him or have had a husky before.. I know I have to teach him that Im the Alpha and not him

Awesome dogs. I can see you're already on track with the best advice I can give you for a puppy..keep him in that damn crate anytime you're not paying attention to him. Not home in the crate; eating dinner, in the crate; sleeping, in the crate. After about six months give him free reign of the house (if you want to) while you're there eating/sleeping whatever, but still lock him up for the first year or so whenever you're not there. Always take him outside as soon as he comes out of the crate and every hour or so while he's out and you shouldn't have any ****/**** problems.

Congrats! Huskys are wonderful dogs. Treat him well and he will be the best friend you ever had.

How is the weather in Springfield, IL? Never forget that a Husky is built for very cold climates. Be careful so he doesn't over heat (no joke!!). A kid’s pool in the garden is strongly recommended in the summer.

And make him work. Huskys are like boarder collies and similar dogs: They need to be activated. Training for the brain and exercise for the body keeps them happy. Friends of mine in the north of Sweden seldom walk their huskys. Instead they get pulled by the dogs on skis in the winter and rollerblades in the summer, which gives the dogs a good workout. Might be a tip? Their dogs live outside year around, btw.

BTW: Dogs naturally do not pee or crap in their homes, but walks away from the nest or group when they need to go. Problem is, the puppy has no clue this is his new home. A bit of time is therefore always needed.

This is how we house train the dogs in my family: Cover the floor in the hallway with newspaper. Whenever the puppy gives the signal that he needs to get rid of some, lift him to the newspaper. Say “No” when he pees on the floor and “Well done” when he pees on the newspaper. He will soon use the newspaper only. Of course, as soon as he shows that he needs to pee, try to make it outside. Then you remove the outer layer farthest away from the door bit by bit, day by day. In the end, there is only one newspaper left in front of the door and by then, it has become natural for the dog to go to the door when he needs to pee. By then, he should also understand that you should pee outside, not inside.

Huskies are cute but not an inside dog. They like to run and are extremely active. My brother has one and has been a pain in the *** since day one. As noted above they will also **** and **** on everything. They are horrendously hard to train.
Most homeonwers insurance will raise your rates, a husky is considered an aggressive breed. It is extremely hard to find somewhere to rent at least out in the west coast, with a husky, deposit or no. They also like to dig themselves a nest in the yard to sleep in. Not the im going to bury a bone kind of hole.
I do beleive you have named him perfectly though.

Man that crate is your friend. When you leave put the dog in the crate. When you get home have the house door open before you let him out.
I have a lab puppy right now. As soon as I let her out, we are running for the door. Otherwise she gets 3 ft from the cage and pee's or worse. Take it outside all the time. Get it used to pee'ing outside.
I hope you can train it to pee in a designated spot. Mine would half way do it. But now she waits to go outside.

But remember puppies really can't control when they go until they are 12 weeks. Before that they go when it hits. So don't kill it.

Boy are you in for some fun. He has had the only dog that escaped from the pound in Euless, TX. Call and ask Corky about his huskies sometime. All I remember - they will climb, dig, or eat their way thru something to get out!

My neighbor had a husky for eleven years,good dog and all,but **** do they shed like crazy in the summer.My neighbor showed me 2 garbage bags full of fur he combed out in one summer!

Now, now people: Do not scare the man of his wits with all this.

Yes, they are very active dogs and they require a lot of attention and exercise. But they are really nice dogs if you train them right! If you have a hard time getting him to focus on you when you try to train him, just make him exercise really hard before. If he is a bit tired he will relax a bit and be easier to train. And please make sure you keep him cool. As I said, my friends in the north of Sweden keep their dogs outside year round, even if it hits minus 25celsius in the winter.

The “dig a hole/nest thing” is a natural thing they do to protect themselves from weather, typically during nights. I think (hope for your sake) it can be helped by creating a nest for him already, like a small basket with cloth in or similar. It must be small enough for him to pretty much fill it when he is rolled up.
