Virginia Ups Speeding Tickets

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...062201781.html

From Article, these fees are on TOP of court fees:
Reckless - 1050
First DUI- 2,250
Driving w/o license - 900

Keep in mind, this may take awhile, since it still has to go through the house.

Braineack 06-26-2007 09:16 AM

doesn't apply to out of staters

wreckless is considered 20mph over or =>80mph, and that will cost you $350 to the court, plus $700 to the DMV, plus the ticket and regular court fees.

yum. I'm pretty sure it's effective July 1st....but maybe if fairfax county courts sold of some of thier nice plasma screens and stop tripling the size of the building, there would be more share of the money to go around as is.

y8s 06-26-2007 10:26 AM

i'm gonna do donuts at your gov's house.

oh and what about raising the goddamn artificially low speed limits all over this area? please, 55 on the beltway? it's backwards compatible with model Ts.

Braineack 06-26-2007 10:52 AM

I interperet every speed sign to equal +19mph.

VA has it's thumbs up it's ass....the law makers down in Richmond are too busy swiming in all the cash from up here to worry about anything other than why the air smells so goddamn awful in richmond. The have no clue about the ongoings of noVA, and are very left-winged compared to up here where is more right-winged and efficient.

y8s 06-26-2007 11:10 AM

nova aint right winged last time I checked... doesn't Jim Webb live up there?

Braineack 06-26-2007 11:17 AM

i think richmond is like the only major place where democrats ever win a majority of the vote....virginia always goes red.

Pitlab77 06-26-2007 11:18 AM

i guess I will have to be careful if I rent a car next month.

I also remember how you guys cant have radar detectors.

Arkmage 06-26-2007 11:20 AM

check out the MI responsibility act... you are still getting off lite.

in MI:
DWI/DUI: pay ticket & court costs + "responsibility act fees"
the responsibility acts requires that you pay ~$1000/year for 3-5 years or your license gets suspended.

it kicks in for DUI/DWI, no proof of insurance (even if you provide proof on your court date), driving without a license (forgot your wallet even), speeds in excess of 85 mph or 25+ over the limit, etc, etc.

I can understand raping drunk drivers, but some of the other stuff is just stupid.

neogenesis2004 06-26-2007 11:22 AM

haha, I just sold mine on ebay because I got a $100 ticket for it. Fucking cop wasn't running radar, he was running radar detector detector detector detector.

the "civil fees" don't apply to you if you are out of state, however, radars detectors are still illegal.

Newbsauce 06-26-2007 12:33 PM

Hm technically if I am recklessly speeding I'm better off losing control of my car and crashing into a wall. Might be cheaper.

GTS Miata 06-26-2007 01:04 PM

my wife wants to move to Virginia when she finishes her doctorate. It is crap like this that makes me want to stay in Georgia! At least I can run my V1 and not worry about it.

miatamania 06-26-2007 01:41 PM

its not reckless in GA until like 90-95 right?

neogenesis2004 06-26-2007 01:46 PM

Well, technically, in VA determination of reckless driving is at the discretion of the officer. So you don't even need to be going 20+ over.

miatamania 06-26-2007 01:56 PM

true, but once your speeding over a certain speed, no matter what you are doing, it becomes reckless, at least in NC.

Braineack 06-26-2007 02:05 PM

yeah that's how it's here...however local police can put it under a county offense not state, and over 20 can just be speeding...i forgot exactly how it works...its happened to me before.

but technically here, 20 over is an automatic wreckless.

turbopezz 06-26-2007 06:24 PM

wow, they really like to rape you guys.ouch what a scam they have going.

getsidewaysd1 06-26-2007 06:30 PM

Ya, my friend just went to court for doing 22 over. He's 22 and it was his first ticket ever. Never even got so much as a parking ticket and they gave him a $1000 fine plus all the other bull shit fines and 6 points.

damn usually you can talk it down. somehow, I've maintain a great record. The last time I was in court was two weeks ago for an overdue inspection. Showed the judge the pink slip and that was that.

messiahx 06-26-2007 07:39 PM

I feel bad for you guys. VA sounds like a great place for an enthusiast to avoid. $1000+ for a first ticket at age 22 is outrageous! I realize that any violation is left up to the officer, but here in WI I've never heard of anything like that. In fact, I got caught "driving fast" with two other sports cars (75 in a 45) and the worst the officer said he could've given us was $300 and 6 points. Ended up with $200 and a disorderly w/motor vehicle charge. Btw, I'm new, so hi all! I'm sure you'll catch me in the emanage forums asking noob questions shortly.

that7guy 06-26-2007 08:06 PM

I heard the bill didnt pass. But thats why I live across the river

magnamx-5 06-26-2007 08:13 PM

damn i wonder how they would react to my 130 in a 55 :gay: never got caught yet. thank god.

92mazdarati 06-26-2007 11:54 PM

here in hicksville SD(city of about 150K people) you can drag race down the busiest street in town with three other cars and only get a exhibition driving ticket which is a $90 fine. The worst I have ever heard of someone getting is a wreckless driving charge which is still only around $200. You guys are getting raped

hustler 06-27-2007 12:30 AM

VA is crazy about traffic laws.

kung fu jesus 06-27-2007 12:44 AM

i lived in MI, VA, NC and now CA. VA has been my least favorite by far. NC has been my favorite. owning and operating a car? MI was the easiest, NC was the cheapest by far.

Newbsauce 06-27-2007 08:32 AM

Actually in VA, if your radar detector is "Built-In" to the car, they can't really do anything about it. I learned that when I was pulled over in VA w/ PA tags from some state trooper (as he wrote me a reckless).

Vashthestampede 06-27-2007 12:22 PM

I got a reckless charge for practicing drifts in a HUGE parking lot....with cones no less. Done it before at other places and never had a problem. Setup cones, do a little practice session, pull out the skateboards...you know, I don’t go and fuck shit up. This last time the cops weren’t having it...:td:

I have till September to finish my year of probation and just finished my 25 hours of community service. Nothing goes on the record, no fine, just pay the lawyer. :bigtu:

Vash-

Braineack 06-27-2007 01:15 PM

really...they cant do that on private property...unless the state somehow owned the parking lot.

Vashthestampede 06-27-2007 01:27 PM

See, I thought that too, but my lawyer told me if the parking lot has 10+ parking spots, that they can. They said that by me having a friend in the car that I was being reckless. My friend said he didn’t mind and that I do it all the time, not sure if that helped the situation.

Vash-

Braineack 06-27-2007 01:40 PM

well....insert vash :vash:

Markp 06-28-2007 10:44 AM

http://www.courts.state.va.us/publications/hb_3202.pdf

Check that out....

$300 annual fee for an operational N2O system, and that's as bad as your second refusal of a blood/breathalyzer test, and that's as bad as using a commercial vehicle to distribute a controlled substance!?!?! All 3 get $300, 3 installment civil assessments, what a bunch of B.S.

Mark

PS - Looks like it's law: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...bil&val=hb3202

y8s 06-28-2007 10:48 AM

aren't you glad you'll be in MD mark?

Markp 06-28-2007 11:03 AM

No, I am glad that I am a gun carrying Texas resident. Although MD seems to think that I should be disarmed... which sorta sucks ass. Where is the logic of being in the military and NOT having a weapon?

Mark

Braineack 06-28-2007 12:14 PM

at least va has lax gun laws. ironically, md is where id most rather havea gun.

y8s 06-28-2007 12:57 PM

gun laws dont mean much. i live in DC where guns are banned and hear gunshots once a week.

Braineack 06-28-2007 02:54 PM

so now you hear them twice a week now??? oh wait no...most poeple dont go around shooting guns...legal or not.

Newbsauce 06-28-2007 03:05 PM

Bottom line: Guns don't kill people. Ninjas kill people.

y8s 06-28-2007 03:18 PM

ninja gaiden is out soon for the ps3 and it's *gorgeous*

Braineack 06-28-2007 03:22 PM

I used to kick ass in that game...when controllers had an "a" and a "b"
