Default The "Vlad got a Prius?" Thread.

Mody8s: this deserved to be its own thread. copied from some other thread. haters: proceed.

We were actually just shopping in the same market as OP: Compact hatch/etc.

Ended up with a '10 Prius IV loaded with all options. Paid high teens for it. COULD NOT BE HAPPIER with the decision. Hataz gonna hate.

LOL yes, actually sold the TSX yesterday.
Currenly only 3

The reason I'm raving about the Prius, is cause it is uber comfy, gets 51mpg consistently, uber spacious, and has every single bell and whistle you can think of (navi, back up camera, bluetooth, sattelite, smart-key, solar roof panels, etc etcetc too much crap to list).

It actually handles pretty decent for what it is too, I was expecting it to be a complete pig, its no worse than our previous 05 civic hybrid. And its actually got grunt at low speeds, esp when you hit the "PWR" button. It shuts off any time you're stopped, and the a/c is electric.

Lots of other stuff, like I said way too much to list, and we got a '10 with all options for what we woulda paid for a '12 yaris or fit with like 10% of the features this thing has.

Its also a huge step up from the previous pre-10 prii (sp?)

Sorry for the ramble..My point is you can get a couple year old one of these with low mileage for the price of that Kia, and its 300% better.

If not, I'd echo what has already been said: mazda2, fit, yaris, fiesta, etc are all better options to the kia.

Blue state car

But seriously, I sort of want a Prius V instead of a minivan for my wife. Problem is all of the Prius V's are $20k+.

I don't really believe that hybrids are any better for the environment, and I generally loathe them. But you can't argue that the newer Prius isn't a good car for the money, with a ton of tech and incredible gas mileage.

What year was your TSX, how much did you get for it?

If Honda still made the original Insight I would have bought one in a heart beat. I honestly did not want to spend an additional 10+ grand for a Prius for only 15mpg more then my Mazda2 gets.

I was actually hating hybrids after the utter disaster that was our 05 civic hybrid.

but decided to give the prius a try after all, and we love it.

They are super reliable and will last 200k miles fairly easily. I see them for sale at a local high turn over lot all the time with 60k miles on them for 15-17,000. Great cars and lots of space. If I didn't need a truck for man stuff like going to the track, haulin wood, and cruisin chicks, I would have a Prius.

They're not that common around here therefore hard to find used and for a good price.

I just never expected to see anyone on this forum post that they got a prius. and if I did picture someone doing it, it wouldn't have been vlad.

it would have been, maybe, me. I hate the prius though. I'd rather have a plug-in Volt or something.

though we did look at the Prius V when we were car shopping (mostly as a favor to my wife) but I wasn't feelin it.

That said, I saw a V with some shnazzy rimz on it while we were in so cal on vacation a wile back and it looked pretty good. like a hot wheels car or something.

Easy now. It is bad enough that members are buying prii. We don't need to be complementing their looks too.

LOL I drive a miata and corvette.
The Prius is for the wife.

But like Joe P said in the Kia thread about the Mazduh2: I was surprised by how much I DIDN'T hate it.

Prii' have been in my family for years. My bro and my mom had at least 6 between them. They just kept getting every year after 04. I wasn't feelin the previous ones at all.

This one though, much different animal, with the larger engine, more power, and better fuel economy. Win win. Oh anddd more interior space to boot.

I'm not a fan of the V to be honest, WAYYY too "minivan-like" for me.
My bro raves about his '13.

What weren't you "feeling"? And did you try the IV or just the V?
There is a HUGE difference between them.

I refuse to drive FWD as it's for peasants. Also, I drive less than 10k miles per year, so I make it a point not to average more than 19 MPG in my commute. I have been successful in this endeavor with all of my most recent vehicles and am currently winning with an average of about 14 in the 3-series.

That said, I did try to convince my wife to look at a Prius, but she had to buy new for specific reasons and they were pushing $30k fully loaded as she preferred. Also, she thought it was too lame. They do seem imminently practical in a lot of ways for the right people.
