Who's REALLY good with networks?
My problem: after bringing my HDTV, PS3, and linksys router to Texas with me, I can't actually play games with it because my NAT type is Type 3, or "strict". So, I can log in to PSN, and get online, but can't actually find any games because of the NAT type.
What I'm dealing with: One PS3, one Westell "Model 2200" DSL modem/router, one Linksys "Wireless G" router.
The internet is being provided by the lodging on the base, and I'll be here for the next 3 months. I have tried looking for tutorials, but the one that really explained things at a level I could understand (with pretty pictures and stuff) didn't include the element of this Westell modem, which may or may not be throttled by the hotel to keep me from playing CoD. Frustrating as hell.
Please help!

So basically are your ports being blocked, causing you to have a NAT error? If I am understanding your situation, most wireless routers have a standard "firewall" protection closing all ports that my be vulnerable to attack. To open them up, you gotta set them to be "forwarded." Hopefully I'm on the right track, but its similar to some people's problems with using Bittorrent to download, and having the ports blocked, not allowing certain people to connect.

Possibly. I should add that I have tried and failed several times to access the router through my browser and it hasn't worked. I'm so dumbfounded by all of this stuff.

You could always be lazy and enable DMZ. Basically forwards everything to that IP. That's assuming it has a DMZ mode...Does it have UPnP? That looks like it's also an option on the PS3. Enable it and you're gravy.
It shows you what you need to do for the Linksys, if you're going through the modem, I don't know what you need.

I guess my first question should be, is the modem bridged or does it have NAT? The way you can find out is if you go to What is my IP address? - dslreports.com and see if that IP matches the IP on your Linksys WAN. If it doesn't, you're going to have a lot of fun cuz you'll need to mess with the modem and either put it in bridging mode or DMZ it.

The main barrier is the lodge's modem/router it seems. The manual I found online said to reset the modem and then try its IP address in the browser, but I couldn't access it. Now I've knocked out the internet... (posting from the phone)
