i want to buy this!



and turn it into this, so to speak......



a guy showed up at my work today with one. it a Honda Rebel 250, he did some stuff to the rear suspension to lower it and maintain the original swing arm. he also had a different set of handle bars on it. long story short, i saw the bike and wanted to build something similar (i have for awhile now) he told me he would sell it for $2100 and no less (after looking at it it wasnt worth more than 1k)

so i want to buy one and **** around with it.

what other bikes out there are suitable for this kinda modification?

If you have a chop saw, welder, skillz, and some scrap material, any bike can be turned into that. I know a fair amount about 70's and 80's Suzuki GS bikes, amd know of a couple projects I've seen like that. Browse through gsresource.com for some build threads. yeah, i has all those tools and my metal working skill are decent enough to pull something like this off. i just need to get a bottle for my welder to lay some nice strong welds...

That is Indeed the coolest thing you can do with a jap bike. I think it is a yamaha 650 from the late 70's early 80's that you can buy cheap and it's a 2 cyl inline engine. I can't think of the model off the top of my head right now.
I cut the softail off my '78 triumph bonneville 750 and hardtailed it and stretched it 4". I'm still working on it, I'm doing forward controls now with a foot clutch and jockey shifter. I go by this theory...choppers are kick start. If you push a button to start it, you're a *****. Also a chopper is a reflection of your craftsmanship. Do it in a way that sets it apart from the rest. Then again, if I didn't f around with my miata so much, my bike would be done.

That's the cool thing about older bikes. Its easy and cheap to do **** to them.

a friend of mine i went to highschool with took a bike (i cant remember the make/model of it) but i do know it was a older sport bike with a 4 banger. but anywho, he chopped the rear of the bike on and welded on a hard tail. the bottom of the bike sits like an inch and a half from the ground, **** was sick!

i have found one local to me for like 1000 i think. one of the studs in the head that the exhaust monts to stripped out..and the add said low millage.


this will be my first motorcycle and from what i am told is that the Rebel is one of the best beginners bikes i can get my hands on!

$1000 seems high, especially if you're going to cut it up. Bought mine for $500, if it's a project go as cheap as you can. If you like miatas I'd stick to cafe racer/ street fighter types of modifications, they're more function over form vs the choppers.

Sean if you want to go cafe racer, another odd ball bike is the Yamaha Virago 525. If you wanting to go more like the first post, the Virago 250 will work. Both bikes are in the realm of forgotten bikes, so then can be found for cheap-ish.

I wouldn't pay over 500 for any one of those older bikes.
And HOLY HELL do the seats on those last 2 look uncomfortable

There's an old picture of my '78 Bonneville that I chopped. I think that's the look that you were looking for? I can't find the picture of what it looked like when I bought it, but it was almost exactly like this...

I didn't touch the front as far as changing the rake or extending the fork. The kicker pedal I fabbed up at work. The rear fender is actually an early 70's Harley Superglide front fender. I am not at all pleased with the "I spent $125,000 on my East Coast Choppers 9' long neon green bike" look. That's gay. Build it yourself, cause the idea isn't how much money you spend to have someone else build it for you...it's how much of yourself you put into the bike. I.E. If your bike is flat black and looks raggedy, but you built it...than to me and other "genuine bikers" it's pretty damn cool.
