What do you like to shoot at?
I'm going shooting in a local sand pit on Sunday and I'm looking for fun ideas for what to shoot at. Paper targets are good for gauging accuracy, but they don't blow up when you hit them or anything.
We'll be shooting .22 rifles, .22 pistols, shotguns, and my friend is going to bring his mosin, which is better for larger targets. Ideas so far are frozen milk jugs, and tin cans. |
Star targets. Large quantities of tannerite.

Animals and clays

tannerite

Waterfillet pet-bottles? My friend hit one of those with a .44 magnum, flipped it upside down and it stood on it's "head" empty. Wish i had that one on film. But anyways, they splash a lot.

Did someone say tannerite? Tannerite.
Propane cylinders with lit road flares taped to them are also impressive. I recommend steel core ammo and shooting from a distance. I once convinced a friend to shoot a #10 can of Costo Nacho Cheese with a 12ga slug. He missed the first 3 rounds and moved up on it... poor fool :giggle: |
I recommend cans of thust or spray foam or spray paint. Anything pressuriEd. Propane tanks.
|
I like the flippy targets on a hinge.

Depends what I'm shooting. .22's id stick with milk/juice jugs filled with water, plastic and glass bottles. Maybe some aluminum cans and bottles as well. Otherwise ceramic is always fun, go to the thrift store and buy a bunch of cheap ass coffee mugs and plates.
If im bringing out the rifles I like metal. I shoot steelies, refrigerators, old cars, wood blocks, logs, etc. It's fun to see the penetration power. The place everyone around here goes out to shoot(i live in the boonies) already has plenty of random ---- for me to shoot up. It's damn fun! a good 5.56 round will go straight through a semi truck/tractor steel wheel, which is easily somewhere between 1/8th and 1/4 inch thick steel. |
|
Ice. Freeze the jugs, and cut them away. Good for mutiple shots on each block.

For some reason this thread just reminded me of my neighbor at my old place

Bowling pins work well. You can go to the bowling alley and get them for free. They love to give the old ones away because they are filled with lead and have to pay to get ride of them. Drill holes in the top and screw in those hook things and hang them from a saw horse type of deal. They last a long time.

I shoot for boobies, chin, mouth. Boarder jumpers and bowling pins are good too. Old crappers have a good amount of fun in them too.

Terrorists.

^++++1.
Anything with a rag on its head will do. More fun if they are packed into an armored vehicle, large truck, Toyota 4x4, etc. Make sure you flip the switch on your 20mm Vulcan to low speed (3000RPM) to extend the enjoyment. I'd fly 1000 miles to smoke a camel. |
Old red ringed 360's. I like to come home with a clear bag of their smashed pieces just to show the current 360 what it'll get if it acts up. Also any spray can. Lay them horizontal near a open flame, shoot the bottom out, and they take off like a rocket.

btw, DO NOT shoot propane tanks. those who say to do it obviously haven't done it before.

At the junk lot where we shoot there is a transformer from a downed power pole and it gongs real nice. That is our favorite long pistol shot. Gong...lol
