What do you name yer...um...car?

Alright, we know that there comes a time when people who are in love with their cars decide to take their affection to the next level and anthropomorphize their cars by giving them names.

So, what kind of cars have you named? What did you call them and why?

I'll start. My first car was a green 1981 Ford Grenada. Because it was long and green, I called it "The Green Bean". Which was easier to say and more PC than my original idea of "Green Giant's Johnson" or "The French Pickler"

Oscar 10-30-2013 11:25 AM

'Black piece of shit that never works correctly' Guess why...

Erat 10-30-2013 11:35 AM

"the miata"

But i've found other people calling my car ms. miata... So that kinda stuck.

concealer404 10-30-2013 11:50 AM

1990 MX6 is "Swank Force One."

1988 MX6 is "Home School Prom Queen."

1993 Miata is "Gaijin Garbage."

Previously named my 92 Celica "Kabuto."

The MSM is "that thing."

2000 Jeep Cherokee is "Churkey."

Haven't named the Escort yet officially, but it is often referred to as "The Deathscrotum."

I cringe when the local Miata forum fagggots name their cars. It makes me think they love anime and live with their parents.

How about we name the OP instead. I vote for Mike Hunt.

shuiend 10-30-2013 03:57 PM

92 Miata is the wife or Marla.
94 Miata is the mistress or Veronica.
95 Miata is lemons/chump and is currently nameless.
97 Miata is new and currently nameless.

FRT_Fun 10-30-2013 04:21 PM

I've never named a car. Seems weird to me. I have called my car names though.

Named by my wife (she doesn't like it and the feeling is mutual apparently).

None of my other cars have names other than OEM.

Happy Halloween.

It seems weird to me that you have not named any of your cars. I have named all my cars, all my family has had names for their cars, and a majority of my friends have named their cars.

Scrappy Jack 10-30-2013 05:45 PM

I got in the habit from the old exvitermini days, exposing me to the Australian custom of naming a car via the number plates (GTR 700, DVLSH, WARIO, etc). I had a customer/buddy in Oz around the same time and was always seeing pictures of the cars and their clever plates.

BDGR - like "badger." Pound for pound, a tough little bastard. But, at the end of the day, it's not much more than a big rodent.

miata2fast 10-30-2013 08:39 PM

I have called my car one particular name, but it was usually done so with a raised voice and often followed by projectile items. You know, tools and such.

I think its best to keep that name to myself to spare you the profanity.

Who shit in your cornflakes? Hahah

jpreston 10-30-2013 11:52 PM

First car I named was a Daytona Violet 95 M3. The first couple months I owned it, EVERY SINGLE TIME I drove it with the radio on, Elton John came on. It was a sorta gay purple anyway, so I named it Sir Elton.

Bought my 91 miata after that, so another gay Elton John reference only made sense. Levon.

Just bought a 97 and haven't decided on a name yet. Thinking Tony, from Hold Me Closer Tony Danza.

The Camaro is Alice (I think an ex originally named it), but most friends call it the 'Maro (with a hick accent), 'merica (well its not called 'merica, they just yell it anytime it is mentioned. Example: Hey Josh what LSA are you running on the Camaro? Random friend listening: 'MERICA!!), small penis car, or the mullet and hillbilly mobile.

thirdgen 10-31-2013 12:56 AM

Kabluey. Because blue, and waiting for it to blow up.

skidude 10-31-2013 02:21 PM

I usually call my Miata "Miata" but sometimes Racecar. I call my Subaru "Subaru" or "Outback" and sometimes "the bus" because it's a wagon.

See if this works...

You can see "JGTC 33" for a Japanese Grand Touring Championship style (or actual?) R33 Gee-Dee-Ah. I have no idea what the story behind "JDMCOP" is.

Here you have a 5th generation Golf R32:

flying_solo 11-02-2013 01:47 AM

My first vehicle was a POS 85 Ford Ranger. After a few attempts on my life, I christened it "The Danger Ranger." I also threw an experimental sticker on the hood I picked up at Oshkosh because I was 16, just soloed and thought I was the shit. That begun rumors at school that it had some exotic swap and they called it the experimental. Little did they know she made all of 80hp at best.

Cost me $500 off an old farmer. 4cyl, am radio, power nothing. Pig shit smell came for free.

Can you even buy a decent running car for $500 these days?

I just bought an '87 BMW 325 for $200. Have been DDing it for 2 weeks.

flying_solo 11-02-2013 02:08 AM

Heh, let me rephrase: Can you buy a decent 10 year old used carfor $500 these days? My story was from almost 20 years ago.

Hey jpreston if you go with Tony, in reference to Tony Danza you in theory could just call your car "The Boss", or if it was me I would go with "Dirty Danza"!!
