what shipping company to use for sending off a block?

like title says.
I have a few interested in the bare block im trying to sell and i realized i have no idea where to start when it comes to shipping out something so heavy!

should i get a pallet and strap down the little 1.6 block ? or wrap it up in plastic wrap and stick a shipping address to it?

go UPS? or a freight company?

Thanks!

freight for my $$ is probly cheaper. Ups doesnt like shit over 100 lbs alot of times.

I have done some shipping of bulk items with Greyhound. Just throw it on a bus and it gets there cheaply (at least in the past when I used them).

I actually boxed one up and shipped it USPS one time... took like 6 months to go 150 miles. No clue what happened there, bastards.

Fuck anything other than freightquote.com.

I had to ship a OEM jeep top and UPS wanted something like $350 to ship it, but through freightqoute.com I was able to ship it via Fedex freight for $120.

I had a fucking tractor trailer pull up at the shop and we just lifted the pallet and loaded it in.

I highly recommend you check them out. I'm willing to bet you wont find cheaper prices, nor anything easier to set up the shipment.

why the fuck are you shipping a block? you better be getting some BIG money for it cause shipping is going to rape you sideways on something so heavy

railz 03-29-2010 12:49 AM

Vash - thx for the heads up, i,ll have to check them out.

18psi - the buyer of the block im selling is responsible for all shipping so its all good

Bax Global is pretty good, too.

Eff UPS...they dropped/broke too many trannies for the shop I hang out/volunteer at. They were filing at least 1-3 claims per month for busted transmissions. UPS thought they were filing bogus claims.

I used FreightCenter.com to ship a complete engine with all accessories and clutch from northern MD to Dallas Texas and it was only $225 and they picked it up and dropped it off residential.
