What would you guys do?

Sold the hood on ebay and now have a problem. The box I have from the new hood is what I'm using to ship the FM hood. Box sits 54x6x54.

Now DHL (and UPS too I think) have a maximum size of 165in by using the length + girth deal. Keep in mind the guy I got my new hood from, used this box...and DHL.

Quote from DHL's website;

The maximum dimension for US domestic packages is 108 inches in Length or 165 inches in Length plus Girth. Girth is defined as two times the Width plus two times the Height: (2xW + 2xH).

My box as it stands is 174in, too big. The girl on the phone was great and told me that if I try to get the box to say....51x5x52 or some other combo that would work....to try that. Really, the hood with all the bubble wrap, just as I received the new one, is a fucking tight fit in the 54x6x54 box.

I asked the girl if I was to just ship it with dimensions that worked on the computer, but kept the box as is (too big), would they notice, check, etc? She said yes, but I wonder....? I can ship it from a business address down at the shop if I need to, but I believe it's going to a residential address. But I really cant do anything about the size of the box!!! :vash: And going to freight via UPS is a fucking 100% joke.

What would you guys do if you were shipping the hood. The buyer paid me $100 to ship. And with false dimensions that work on DHL's site, I was quoted $106, so that works. But I don't know if its worth the chance to play around with sending a box and cutting a inch here or there on the ticket, but not the box itself.

Take the box as is to local DHL store and play dumb and just say hey i need to ship this, i found that a little flirting with the girl at FedEx got me a favor.
Good Luck

UPS measures large boxes with lasers as the boxes are moving on the line. They'll check it and kick it.

Don't know about DHL.

Grey Hound will ship just about anything.. the person will have to pick it up at the closest Grey Hound Depot

Good luck

Last time I was at the shipping store a Fed EX guy was talking about shipping a 72" Plasma or DLP, can't remember which. He said it was way oversize and over weight but they still did it. I say play dumb and see if DHL will do it, if not then find another way.

Ask the guy that sent you your new hood how he got away with it. Or ask FM how they ship their hoods.

Talk to Grinder. The reason he was able to ship those hoods was because he has a buddy at DHL. He might be able to hook you up.

I think I'm gonna go with playing dumb. I just know that no matter what I will never use UPS again. An auction I had last week ended with a winning bidder in Chile. UPS wanted $160 to ship a box that was like 12"x20"x20" and weighed 3lbs. I called and asked if it was an error, and the guy told me "no....we are a private shipping company, so we can charge that much"....I just fucking hung up. Shipped it USPS for like $30-$40 bucks. This time around the quote was something more like $700.....please.

I might look into going Fedex. I know we have a Fedex local, but DHL....I don't even know if I got one around here. I was just going to call for a pickup. I'm gonna try and message Mike, though I doubt he'll get back to me by the time I need to ship it! lol :giggle:

As said above, lots of people seriously do use greyhound for shipping body parts. It won't be over $100 based on what I have heard from others that have done it. Hoods, fenders, bumpers - Greyhound will have the best price on oversize. I don't know if DHL will charge you if they kick it out, like the post office. If you send a letter with insufficient postage, they return it cancelled and you have to do it over again, with all new postage.

That was great to see after dealing with shit just like that....lol. :bowrofl:

"I cant see the NUMBERS!!" Thanks for the video guys.

HOLY FUCK! I just took the advice on Greyhound and got a quote. $49.95!! But that's counter prices it said, so tomorrow I'm going to call and see what they'll charge to come get it. Not trying to take one of my work trucks to Bridgeport. Thanks a ton guys, looks like I might go legit through Greyhound! :) And whats great, is it asks from where and where to, weight, and largest dimension. Talk about making it easy!
