What's the overall opinion from the miata community.....?

on the sky redline....260RWHP..LSD.."short throw shifter"....two seat convertible....FMIC....all around 30 grand...anyone heard anything too terribly bad about em? (same thing as the solstice for those of you who dont know)

this miata owner says 260chp
It sounds like a nice package for someone who wants a new sports car under warranty. But not for me. |
i was under the impression it was RWHP not crank.......im not saying it's the perfect race car or anything...along the lines of an SRT-4 though...not quick good looking, warrantied race car for driving everyday while you're workin on the monster miata that you cant let touch public pavement!! LOL
|
its 260 crank HP, not RWHP.
No doubt its a stout car, there are already a couple of the Solstice GXPs running around here, 2 yellow ones I've seen so far. |

It's pretty cool. Too heavy though. |
i like the sky better than the solstice.black with red leather.but i would rather a black with red leather interior s2000.and import motor places now have the motor and tranny.plus its a honda a hered there is no need for oil and gas it just keeps going.:gay:

the back is really, really ugly. Cool car with a great motor...I'd rather have a daily and a cheap turbo miata that will make as much power, lighter, and handle better for sub $8k.
You can put together a turbo miata so much cheaper, and have a daily for us "normal" sized people. |
does any one else thinks they are trying to rip off nissan with the name?
besides a 6200rpm redline is ghey considering it has a way shorter stoke than its 2.4L na brother anyone notice how FAT their sways are?!! i agree with the srt4 type appeal of the car save the price. drifting does good things for the american economy it seems |
im sorry, i dont trust a GM engine that has turbo pushing 20psi of boost into it... Id much rather put my money into something from japan
|
time will tell, but so far the ecotec is looking pretty good. They're getting a lot of boost and power out fairly stock motors, and crazy power out of built motors.
|
I think it's decent, I just couldn't bring myself to ever own anything GM. Just personal preference.
Am I the only one that thinks the Solstice is better looking because of the lack of gaudy, non-funcional vents? |
I sat in one the other day when looking at a used Mazda6 the local dealership had. Doorsills are WAY TOO HIGH, can't rest your arm on the door... makes the interior feel way cramped. No more legroom than in a Miata... cheap plastic-crap interior. I like the Miata because there's no "trim", just a basic black dashboard and interior pieces that fit perfect and look perfect. Compared to the Miata, it's big and it's got a fat ass. I'm not in love with the styling from any angle and I agree w/adbradley about a 20psi GM product... maybe if the turbo was designed by Hennessey or Banks. Shifter felt like rubber and even the short-throw was 1/3 longer than w/my Voodoo knob.
You will never hear an advertised horsepower rating from any car company measuered in WHP... it will always be in CHP. So, do the math: 260CHP-15%=220rwhp (which Brain will hit tomorrow @12psi) Curb weight is advertised at 2860lbs, vs Miata 2200lbs (average for NA's depending on AC/PS/Rollbar/Wheels/mods...). MX-5 is curbed at 2400 w/170crank. WheelHorsepower to Weight ratio: lbs/hp Stock NA Miata: 23 Stock '06 MX-5: 16.5 Stock Greddy: 14.6 '06 Mustang GT: 13.5 MazdaSpeed 3: 13.5 Sky/Solstice: 13 350Z: 12.5 Braineak: 10 ('nuff said from a performance standpoint) |
its a low revving torque monster like the SRT-4. It is still an ecotec engine so who knows how much power can be extracted from it.
|
props out for Saturn releasing a vehicle like this in the US market. usually these types of vehicles aren't available on this side of the pond due to the lackluster demand.
Now Mazda needs to respond back with a 230-240 hp Mazdaspeed Miata =) |
Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfucker. Let's see what it's worth in 5 years. Jay |
I'd rock one if it weren't for the fact that it has NO utility at all. The trunk is laughable, and that's coming from someone who DD's a Miata.
|
oh the solstice looks far better than the sky IMO, but both are HIDEOUS from the rear end, its like they gave up or something.
And the ECOTEC engine is a very, very good engine with tons of power potential. People can down on it all they want but GM does know how to build a powerful and stout/reliable engine these days. |
