What's your preferred driving shoe?
This is a weird post but sombody has got to make it. I have trouble driving with dress shoes, running shoes, and boots. They always get caught on the carpet when I let go of the clutch. The only shoes I use now are pumas that look like racing shoes.
|
Puma's or bare foot.
G-force high tops when it gets serious. |
|
I just got some pilotis (prototipo), used them on the track at barber motorsports park this week and I really liked them. No experience with any others.
|
On the street i wear sandals. Gay I don't care, I'm from Florida. On the track I wear Nike Sbs.
I think driving with sandals taught me how to drive. Don't want to scrap my foot on grip tape pedals. Heel toe is clean as fuck. :D |
I love my Doc martens. Combat boots suck. I have some speed cats, i like the Martens better. I can drive like hell in flip flops. I have actually autocrossed a few events in flops, until they said i needed closed toed shoes. Anything with a thick sole sucks because i cant feel the pedals.
|
I wear these. You can feel the pedals and they are very comfortable.http://www.zappos.com/images/754/754...-920333-p.jpg?
|
+1 for Pilotis. I have some older Reebok driving shoes that served me well for 4-5 autocross seasons, but they were too narrow to wear all the time. My Pilotis are much more comfortable.
|
Which ever ones I have on? Which is usually a set of Onitsuka Tigers.

Guessing and precision driving don't mix.
|
I don't recall the OP bringing up precision driving. Of course then you would want something other than dress shoes or boots. I'm talking in terms of daily driving like 95% of the time is spent for most people here.

Chuck Taylors.
My worn Panama-soled desert boots are surprisingly good too |
I have a pair of the Piloti Prototipo, but I prefer flat bottomed Vans
|
I have Puma Speedcats. Very nice to modulate brakes with.
Since they are trendy 'scenester' shoes you can usually pick them up cheap at urban clothing stores, mine were $40. Or even cheap karate shoes would work. |
+1 on Speedcats. I have two pairs.
|
I'd like to buy a pair of speedcats I just hate how narrow Pumas are. Maybe after time I would get used to it?

Timberland Titan, size 14. Only thing that I ever have a problem with "catching" is that the cuff of my left pants leg often gets caught on the hood release handle. Hardly the fault of my shoes, though. |

For driving around town I wear a pair of Piloti G16s that I've had for a few years. They are quite comfy.
http://www.ogracing.com/images/produ...RING-SHOES.jpg For track I have a pair of Simpsons with dat Nomex shizz yo. If your issue is the heel catching on the carpet, you just need something with a more rounded heel than you'd find on a typical dress shoe or boot. Pretty much any Piloti or Puma would solve that. I stopped into the Puma store at the mall this weekend. They have some styles that I thought looked pretty good. I'm just not sure if I can get away with rocking them around town being that I'm not a tiny little Asian dude. |

I can see where the thin soles of the Chuck Taylors and the Vans might make a cheap, workable solution. Don't laugh. I'm still trying to learn to walk in them. |
Onitsuka Tigers:
http://dealperfect.com/productpics/sku_22395_1.jpg http://dealperfect.com/productpics/sku_22395_5.jpg I tried a pair of these and a pair of pumas. These win hands down in every way. Pumas feel too stiff for my taste and also seem a bit heavy. These are more like running shoes, they weigh basically nothing. |
god women are stupid.
|
I have some Piloti Monacos and never wear them. The rounded back of the heel is nice I guess but the soles are way too thick. I feel the pedals way better wearing something like Adidas Sambas.

He's not kidding. We went to the autocross together last year.
Works just fine. Now, for driving a Westie, this obviously wouldn't work. :D A while back, I bought a pair of Converse all-stars. Never could quite get used to them... |

Adidas makes a nice range of driving shoes similar to the Puma Speedcat.

On track: speed cats. I like narrow shoes. |

+1 for chuck taylors. Though I have been eyeing speedcats for a couple of months now, wonder if they last in daily use?

adidas goodyears

I'm on my 2nd and 3rd pair of these.
http://www.energyshops.com/catalog/i...%20brancas.jpg I bought a pair of Piloti Prototipo only to find out they have thick soles. I put them back on the shelf. The best part was the keychain. If anyone wants a size 10 Blue/grey on the cheap, let me know. http://assets0.saferacer.com/images/...-04.0_5_lg.jpg |

Not exactly fire-rated, but they're comfy, narrow and light. |
