Who here daily-drives their turbo Miata?
I know a bunch of you guys have dedicated daily drivers, or second cars, but who among us is nuts enough to have the turboed Miata as their primary mode of transportation?
My car was turboed in July '07 at 130,6xx, and it's going to cross the 143,000 mile mark this weekend. Currently at 142,8xx and I am driving 200 miles home tomorrow, then back again on Sunday. |
i haven't driven my miata PERIOD in almost three months. :(
yeah mine is sitting in the garage after being molested by an angle grinder, but it WILL be my daily driver :bigtu:
Not turbo'd, but I do have nitrous and it's my DD. Last fall I would drive it home 260 miles, run the 1/8 mile 4-5 times, and drive back up sunday. Did that many times. Car is being turbod this summer and will remain my DD.
what happen to your twin-supercharger idea pats?
I put on over 15,000 miles a year for two and a half years, but since I got the GTI I keep it at school and keep the Miata 300 miles away at home.
My one and Only Car Drivin every day
I own several vehicles including a non turbo miata, but my turbo car is my daily driver.

yeah w/e buddy you daily drive a humvee or a tank  |
Miata was my DD until I got a 2008 company work truck. That same week put Miata on jacks and called BEGi!! Finally got everything and will finish tomorrow (I hope) then it will be my daily driver again..(on weekends)
I will be putting at least 500 miles on the Miata this weekend.
Mine is my only car, so daily driver of course.
Mines my dd. Dont really put much mileage on it though, but I wouldnt be the least bit concerned about driving it anywhere. I trust it more than I do my chevy pickup which is 6 years newer and 30k less miles
My DD is my SC'd Miata since my turbo'd Miata doesn't have a top, windows, heater, wipers, etc. I'll probably pull the SC and go turbo with it in the near future though. I don't see any downside using a turbo as your DD.
Mine is my DD. It is always tricky starting a project friday night and hoping it will be done by monday morning.
My miata is too little, too rough, too sexy, but gets better gas mileage. I bet when I get the turbo motor in, I'll drive it until I can't afford tires anymore.

Mine's been relegated to DD services, as the OTM is less than functional. Still. Again. Been putting 65 miles on it every day, half very congested and half wide open. I rather enjoyed yesterday's top down ride home.
DD ~20K miles/year
10K miles in three years.....not my DD.
Miata is always down for some project or another. Couldn't imagine using it for a dd.
DD and track rat.
My miata is my daily driver, and will continue to be, but won't be turbo until end of may/early june. Going to buy a corolla or something for a winter beater this year. I dragged mine through two ohio winters because I couldn't afford a second car before. Poor thing, I feel for it. Only has 86.6kmiles on it though now.
Mines not registered yet. lol
But I live like 2 miles from the drag strip so i race it every Friday and break shit. |
Turbo is still on the spare motor in the floor. But I drive that car everywhere. I just drove it to Arkansas and back in two days. Sometimes I drive it 9hrs to NE. AR., and Memphis area.
My chevy truck gets 17-18 mpg on the highway. That VS 30mpg VS $3.29 gallon. Only negative is the Tx potrol loves to stop riced bright yellow miatas. I did nothing wrong and was pulled over out of a line of vehicles. Im just fortunate that he didn't ask me to touch my toes. |
could be a daily driver if i wanted to pour miles onto it.
but it's semi-daily and I'd call it reliable enough to daily. and I have a 26 mile each way commute. I drove it today in fact. it didn't SMOKE or GO LEAN or SIT IN THE GARAGE or anything weird on the way to the dyno day last weekend! that said, the maintenance schedule is very different from a stock miata. eg. the clutch service is biennial. |
Mine is but being a mazdaspeed with a factory turbo I don't know if it would be part of the consideration for what you are seeking to asses. Make the drive a lot more pleasent
DD.. most of the time. I'll drive the SRT if the Miata's down.
I would drive mine more but I'm waiting for my headlights to get finished up. Since my friend is fabbing things for beer I am in no place to place demands.
The miata has been down for 4 months but before then it was my DD with the greddy kit for about 2 years.
I drive mine everyday as long as it isnt raining when I leave the house. I drive 50 miles a day and have put about 20k on the last year and a half, 10k of that boosted. Its about to hit 190k and still running strong.

Mines been a daily driver since it was new/stock, turbo went on in 2000, still a daily driver. So right at 8 years with the GREDDY and IC going down the road. I am not a high mileage person, right at 8K per year, have 103K miles at this time, half of it with the turbo.
i drive mine every day to school, and to work, and to friends house, and to meets (cough 600 miles cough)
no problems, i just stay out of boost, but its nice to have, when you need it i love driving my boosted miata every day |
DD all year long. I've got a Dodge Ram for when it's raining hard, but even though my Miata has been down for about 6 months of the past 2 years since I've turbo'd, I've still put 14k miles on it. The Dodge has 6k miles but about 3k of that is pullin' the boat.
My 99' GMC Envoy was my daily driver. That blew the motor so the miata has been the daily driver for going on 4 years now. The first year I had the miata it was N/A. So close to 4 years and 25k miles turbo'd.
I sometimes take it to the job when I'm not in the mood to take one of the concrete covered work trucks. My shop is only about 2 miles from my house, and when I lived at the farm the car basically sat the whole year. Now I'm back into it again. :) Vash- |
Damn, I thought the mustang community was bad for having cars sitting on jackstands. Looks to me the same in the mazda turbo community.
My miata is not a daily driver, never was and never will be.It's a 1990 with 63,000km on it and when I purchased it over ten years ago it had 50,000km.
Mine is a daily driver. Weekend road trip car. Grocery get-er. Test mule. Gymnastics Meet transport. No track use yet though.

If there's no forcast for rain or salt on the road, I will drive the Miata. Turns out I put about the same miles on the miata as the OTM.

I know how that feels... |
The reason I bought this car was to be my commuter, then came all the mods, but still remains my commuter car.

I've done that many times. |
I DD my 92. It had 58k miles when i got it. 68k ish when I turboed it, and 165k when i sold it.
driving duties are split 50/50 between the turbo miata and turbo saab
I DD it in the summer. In the winter it's put away. If we didn't have winter here I would DD it all year round.
i DD mine. i drive the supra to work because i dont want my car to get broken into while at work. lots of thefts happen around hte mccarthy plaza. surprisingly, the SJSU parking garage (4th) is relatively safe.

This is a 1975 British Scorpion tank, a co worker and I pulled it from the junk yard, and got it running. Our 3 mile trek down to the Iraqi National Guard camp is legendary at Al Taji. |
