Who knows about Gaymans?

Not the crocodilian, the car. I was browsing Craigslist and came across this example that is intriguing. 2006 Porsche Cayman S with TPC turbo kit

An aftermarket turbo on a Porsche seems like it could be asking for trouble, but the reviews on the Porsche forums are predominantly positive. Has anyone run across one of these before?I've also seen mixed reports on whether or not these suffer from the same IMS bearing issue as the 996s. From what I've read, it looks like they can, but its much less prevalent. How about maintenance, is it really as terrible and expensive on a Porsche as people say? Any other thoughts or advice regarding the Caymans? I'm sure it'd be smarter to just stick with my miata or, if I really need to, buy a corvette, but I've always wanted one and I'm intrigued. Thanks.

Partsgroup.com has one.

As far as I know, and IMS bearing failure requires dropping the engine, and the local race shop charges ~$130 for an oil change.

^That's all? It cost $150 for my '13 Track Pack GT mustang (thank you 9qts of 5w-50)

But lulz at buying a USED, Porsche with an aftermarket churbo. You must be a sub?

Nice thread title change. It's good to see a topic that all of MT can get *behind*.

Thanks for the inputs. I'm not too concerned about things like oil changes as I don't expect to start paying someone else to do those for me. I did research consumables like pads, rotors, tires, belts, ect and they aren't as crazy expensive as I would have guessed. That being said, I think I'll still just beat on the miata for a couple more years and try for a used C7.

I was tempted to do early 986 Boxster, myself, before going Miata. Used prices aren't nearly as different up here between the two as I would've thought, and the Porsche is a Porsche. I couldn't get around the fact that maintenance would be a world of more ducats, though, and I doubt I'd be having more fun in the Porker than I do in the Miata. In fact, part of what I like about the Miata is that I can be a tool in traffic, and people just sort of smile at me. If I were in a Bimmer or Porsche, no way would they tolerate my shenanigans the same way.

Your view may vary if you have a higher budget, though.

Car sounds like a blast. Sucky ad though... Nighttime pics, none of engine/turbo kit...

Was looking into them a couple years ago and the maintenance cost turned me off from them.
