they only do blocks of 1k. But I figure hey do it once and never again :D

Arkmage 03-06-2007 05:20 PM

Christ... at that price I might just buy a vinyl cutter. the smaller ones for doing an 8x2" sticker aren't very expensive.

Philip 03-06-2007 07:15 PM

hrm I'll look into it.

Philip 03-06-2007 07:23 PM

Hrmmmmmm may just do that then you can have whatever you want.

Philip 03-06-2007 07:38 PM

Near as I can tell, something like this would do just fine.

don't buy one that doesn't specifically say it supports true type fonts and cuts vinyl. that one mentions "other media", but not specifically vinyl. I'll look around and see if I can find any at about that price that are more capable.

The new version of that one is exactly the same, but with USB. The new one costs about $600.

big, but cheap and with good software included.

Philip 03-06-2007 09:28 PM

I'm on it.

Philip 03-06-2007 10:27 PM

did not think it was worth $400 for a refurb.

Philip 03-06-2007 11:09 PM

That other one is $390 AUD to ship which is still about $300 USD.

just googling "desktop vinyl cutter" gives a few mfgrs with models in the sub 500 range for list. cut vinyl, reflective vinyl, stencils, etc. neat shit.

ApexOnYou 03-07-2007 12:26 AM

I wish I had some money to spend on a cutter. It would easily pay itself off localy in a year tops.

I have a n00b question though.. What is die cut? Is that like all one peice? Or is it like any ordinary decal that has individual letters/digits/symbols?

Braineack 03-07-2007 08:59 AM

damn, i wanna buy a vinyl cutter now....

olderguy 03-07-2007 09:30 AM

My local club buys small vinyl white ones for about $1 each in repeat lots of 50. Which of the various designs should I get a quote on? I don't want to waste their time.

Philip 03-07-2007 09:39 AM

nah I just want to get a cutter then I can do any style/color etc I want.

I noticed that... problem is most of them are in the 8" range, which only gives them a 6-3/4" cut width. There are a select few that are 12" in the price range.

Die-cutting is what allows you to have a shape other than a rectangle. If your sticker just has straight edges with 90* corners, it's called guillotine-cut. Die cutting uses a fixture with a knife in the shape you want to cut - for instance, if you wanted to cut around the O in the logo to mimic the shape of the turbo, or if you wanted rounded corners.

Too many years in the business, I guess.

ApexOnYou 03-07-2007 01:01 PM

I think I get it. So it wont be one peice right?

xturner 03-07-2007 01:15 PM

It's still one piece, die cutting just lets you be a little more creative with the actual shape of the sticker. Unfortunately, it costs more to do.

ApexOnYou 03-07-2007 01:16 PM

Ok I understand now. Thanks!

mxv 03-07-2007 06:20 PM

die cut = cookie cutter
