Default DVI-D Cable Brands

All the same or do you go w/ higher name brands?

I was looking at an OEM Dell DVI-D cable on Ebay and it's pretty thin; it's about half the thickness of the aftermaket Chinese brands.

Is this a marketing ploy like Monster Cable? Are all the cables the same?

I will be running 1680x1050 so won't need dual link.

DVI stands for Digital Visual Interface
It is digital - it either works or not, regardless of how cheap or expensive the cable is.
If you see image on your monitor with a $2 cable you won't see a better one with a $200 cable

I get my cables from newegg, the cheapest ones they have. I couldn't be happier.

Check out monoprice.com

Someone on this board recommended them and I cant find better prices anywhere. I'm actually placing an order with them tomorrow once I take some measurements. Cant beat a 50ft DVI cable for $43....really.

I order all my cables from amazon. S-Video, HDMI, DVI, Fiber. Cheapest things I can find. I've never had any problems with them.

Except when they get cut... Chair running over them one to many times comes to mind.

You just need a DVI cable to go from your CP to monitor? Do you have any space requirements? Why do you need a thin cable?

I have had great luck with FireFold - Burning the Competition

They are out of NC and have the best customer service of any provider of late.

You can get good quality china cables from them at 90% of what the retail stores charge. I've used several of their 75' HDMI cables behind my walls for my HT room. Can't complain about quality or price...

Oh, they screwed up an order once... sent me a bunch of free **** and told me to keep the stuff that they screwed up on too. So it was win / win !

Cheers,
Prospero

I thought there was a length limit?

It all depends. I have run 100' cables in my ceiling (4 of them) so I could hang a plasma on the wall and have the sources in another room. So far I have had no issues with signal; but I also ran them in a metal pipe for the majority of the run to quash EMI / RFI.

There are also many amplifiers for HDMI on the market that are good for 250 feet over CAT6 and whatnot. Used these quite a few times on other projects. The major issue is if you are using a standalone audio source that is before the 250' run of cable... the delay is obvious in relation to the picture.

Cheers,
Prospero

there IS a length limit. if your voltage drops, you no longer can recognize a high bit from a low bit.

however

you can get amplifiers or run it over cat5.
