Who's at work?

Sitting at home scratching your balls is not a job, no matter how badly(or nicely) it feels like one.

So who is at work on this wonderful Monday morning?
Is it slow for you since its the end of the year, or is it crunch time since its the end of the year?
Are you planning on wasting your whole day browsing MT.net or are you actually planning on doing some work?
Whos on paid vacation for the next two weeks? Thats still kinda like work.
Post something interest for those who are killing time to do or read.

I'm at work, but im bouncing for 2 weeks vacation starting wednesday. Its not even going slow for us, we are just dead. I work in IT and dude to the way the end of year works, we are at a full stop on everything. I am basically twiddling my thumbs for the next two days and have been for the last week. So I am planning on killing all my time spamming the hell out of this forum today.

If someone wants to post up something interesting to read, im up for it.
Anything but cracked though, I have read everything on that site, there's nothing left.

Braineack 12-22-2008 11:45 AM

I am. But I'm off from the 25th till the 5th...so don't expect many posts by me then :)

RotorNutFD3S 12-22-2008 11:48 AM

I'm at work. I'm a Materials Controller for the Yamaha assembly plant in GA. We only have 2 of the 4 lines running today and tomorrow, I'm making sure our orders for the first production day in January are going to be here on time and planning out the next couple of months. We've cut some production based on the time of the year and due to the economy, but apparently our stuff is still selling pretty well.

I get to be here Wednesday and next Monday and Tuesday for inventory. Other than that, I'm off until the 7th of January when we start back up, and it's paid vacation. Hopefully the machine shop gets my block finished this week so I can start putting the car back together during my time off. :)

curly 12-22-2008 12:00 PM

I'm at home, you can check my other thread as for the reason why.

A buddy who made it into work today texted me saying the VP of manufacturing closed the plant for tuesday and wednesday (thursday and friday are paid holiday of course) because there's 1.5' of snow everywhere and the forklifts can't get around.

We're incredibly slow right now anyways, we've laid off about half our workforce (used to be a little more than 400) in the last 6 months.

Stein 12-22-2008 12:03 PM

Work today and tomorrow, then off the rest of the week. Work Mon Tues next week, then off for the rest of the week.

Slow here this time of year, starting this week, as far as sales efforts goes for the rest of the year.

pdexta 12-22-2008 12:11 PM

I'm at work, dying of boredom, watching the clock tic by ever so slowly. :sadwavey:

levnubhin 12-22-2008 12:16 PM

Im at work and its crunch time. I have to get a bunch of orders out b4 the holidays. If I get them by wednesday then I'll close up until the 5th.

at work......all vacation days have been used. the only benefit of working the weeks of christmas/new years is the severely reduced rush-hour traffic.

Vashthestampede 12-22-2008 12:42 PM

I got to the shop this morning and it was 14* out, with wind probably below 0. I spent about 2 hours shoveling snow off the trucks and around the shop, but that was it. I was surprised we didn't work today, must mean shits slowing down. Definitely too cold to pour concrete, but we could have set forms at least. Now I'll waste my day on COD all day.

The only time I envy office jobs is when its bitter fucking cold. Like can't feel my toes at 8am, and I know I'm gonna work till dark. :bang:

I'm off the next 2 weeks and paid. I made breakfast for the wife and I this morning. We are going to brave the mall for one last present in a little bit. Going skiing the 26th in New Mexico for a couple of days. I am glad the next couple of day are in the 40s & 50s so I can get stuff done on the Miata. I don't think I am going to get to install the turbo though. I still need a few more parts, and I will probably have to do it sometime in Feb or March.

Sleeper_MX5 12-22-2008 12:54 PM

I'm at work. construction is super slow. so i'm on the internet looking at car parts.

chriscar 12-22-2008 01:32 PM

I'm at work... though I work from home. Remote Desktop FTMFW.

messiahx 12-22-2008 01:51 PM

At work. Gotta work tomorrow and then the rest of the week is paid vacation. Same deal next week. Like Saml01, I'm in IT, and some days I have a lot of work, other days, not so much. Today is a "some work" day. It sucks that I'll be spending all my time off indoors. It's currently -1 outside right now and the temps have been like this for a week now. I drive 15 miles to work and the miata never really gets warm :(

gman3 12-22-2008 01:53 PM

working from home
Off dec 25 through jan 6

hustler 12-22-2008 01:54 PM

I'm at the office in Austin, trying to figure out where to put this grant money. I work for the federal government, so its never really high-stress...aside from the 4-6 times per year that I have to deal with politicians...and I think my post-count supports that logic.

kotomile 12-22-2008 02:03 PM

Currently on paid vacation and loving it. One of the perks of the job.

cjernigan 12-22-2008 02:36 PM

I'm in Hawaii enjoying my 3 weeks off :)

Milton Tucker 12-22-2008 02:36 PM

I am sitting in a Hilton suite, waiting for my employer to get me a flight to Dubai. I have been waiting for a week, but have been unable to get a flight due to the Holiday. I have one meeting i must attend daily, the rest of the time is mine. Would this count as work?

Trent 12-22-2008 10:33 PM

Yep, add my name to the growing list of IT dudes.

Normally we start to slow down until the new year (when our customers get new budgets for the year), but this year has been balls to the wall since hurricanes Gustav and Ike. In fact, this month is looking to be my best month of the year (we make a commission on our billing for the month in addition to our base pay).

Oscar 12-23-2008 04:58 AM

I'm at work too, for the time being. Working until the 31st (not over christmas) and then I get to take a 9 month holiday (contract not renewed because of financial crisis shit:fawk:) until I get back to college.
yay:bang:

fmowry 12-23-2008 06:48 AM

IT guy for the federal gov't so I'm always on vacation. :) Actually I'm in at work today just to clear out some old email jobs. Most people here take "use or lose" leave through the end of the year so it's a graveyard here.

Curious. Most of the guys who answered work in IT or some job related to that.

gospeed81 12-23-2008 08:23 AM

Worked yesterday, and here today.

Missed my daily dose of MT.net yesterday as the whole friggin network was down, but I got a lot of work done instead. Today I plan on surfing and making my turbo plans a little more cohesive.

Took tomorrow for vacation, and plan on battling with other last minute shoppers.

boardboy330 12-23-2008 10:36 AM

Work in IT for the Federal Government as well...everything seems to be slow...so the Government decided to give us a shitload of work earlier than we were supposed to. No lie...last week they broke a few things because we weren't busy enough.

This is because we're always in front of a computer and because we aren't always the busiest bunch.

gospeed81 12-23-2008 01:39 PM

I'm doing design work right now for structures(tables, workbenches, crane stands, carts and racks) for our machine, manufacturing and coating departments.

It's like a bunch of homework problems from statics and materials, but I get to do the drafting and see them built and used as well.

Needless to say it CAN get boring, and drive me to daydream of BOOOOOST!

nicacus 12-23-2008 01:49 PM

Working... sort of... this is supposed to be the slowest time of year but the company is switching our main program to a "better" program. So everything is hectic and shitty.
As far as the workload goes, it seems to me more people think they are sick now, than in the summer. Especially a day or two before a holiday. Quit going to the hospital to get your blood tested people! I don’t want to work on Christmas :vash:

neogenesis2004 12-23-2008 04:17 PM

I do IT support and installations for Verizon. I travel around the country a lot but haven't in the last few weeks. Travel won't pick up again until end of January. I spent yesterday setting up my department directors laptop to dual boot vista and Xp pro because our VPN doesn't support vista. Needless to say it took me my entire 8 hr shift :). I can't wait to go south or west again though cuz it is too damn cold here.

I have today and the rest of the week off. Then back to work on Monday.

Sounds like someone wants to install my FPR and go with me to the dyno....

I had to do that to mine for the same reason before this last semester started.

It took forever, and cost precious study time as my bosses now knew I could work from whereever and whenever.

I don't want to sound like an idiot...but wouldn't VMWare or VirtualPC be a better solution for this?

Braineack 12-24-2008 09:30 AM

VMWare has less support and vista.

boardboy330 12-24-2008 10:08 AM

BUT, VirtualPC2007 by Microstiff has plenty of Vista support and is free :-)

Either way...I understand the need to waste an entire paid day...as I said before...working for the Feds :)

Braineack 12-24-2008 10:21 AM

but really, if he needs to VPN into his office PC....on a laptop no less, wouldn't running one operating system at a time be the better choice.

boardboy330 12-24-2008 10:45 AM

Well, the problem with the government is...our Email system will ONLY run on XP...and they moved the Laptops over to Vista - makes NO SENSE!!! Either way...I understand what you mean...I was just pointing it out.

sixshooter 12-24-2008 10:48 AM

Working all day Christmas Eve. Visiting a customer right now who is grilling on three barbecue trailers for his company Christmas picnic. Now I will smell like smoke all day. Supposed to be 80 degrees and sunny today, and I'm running the A/C in my truck to keep cool.

If I didn't want to have access to my laptop and all of the other goodies in my truck, I could have driven the Miata. It would have been a great day for a top down ride. I'm glad the cold snap is over.

Braineack 12-24-2008 11:04 AM

I had to come in, but im leaving soon. then I'll be inactive for a while.

too much sex waiting at home to bother with you bitches.

Toddcod 12-24-2008 11:38 AM

I'm at work, no sex......Just miataturbo.net.

It is freezing here. Even with it warming up some today, the humidity and ever blowing wind makes you freeze.

paNX2K&SE-R 12-24-2008 12:30 PM

I'm at work right now too (Verizon). They at least made it a 1/2 day for us though 12-4.

Trent 12-24-2008 02:18 PM

we are off for the rest of the week, but i was the unlucky sonuvabitch who got stuck with being on call for Friday. But even worse, they transferred the phones to my cell when we left at noon today, so I'm basically on call for the rest of the day today and the next two days.

bullshit.

wildfire0310 12-24-2008 04:11 PM

wow I don't feel as bad as I was not the only one that had to work a half day.

IcantDo55 12-24-2008 06:09 PM

Bartending tonight till 2am. Anyone want a beer?

Tried both VPC07 and VMWare. Problem is that our VPN does not allow NAT through either of them and neither will allow bridging of a WWAN card for when we are out of the office. Therefore, until a Vista VPN client is released from corp dual booting is the only option. Trust me i wish I could just use VPC cuz when I log into the VPN it filters out all interwebz except out corp intrawebz sites, which are pretty useless to me out of the office. So I can't currently do work email and talk with you niggz at the same time when on the road.

Luckily I am a nerd so I have an eeepc in addition to my main laptop. So I always have internet. Just a PITA to have both laptops out when I'm maxing in my hotel room.
