Why is it...

that people with a 90 NA think their car is worth the same money as say.. a 99 with similar miles?

Where are all the dirt cheap NA's?

RotorNutFD3S 11-21-2007 03:44 PM

Evidentally hiding. I'm in the market as well.

Zabac 11-21-2007 03:48 PM

good luck dudes, not gonna happen
you have to find an old lady that broke her knee and now has to drive a buick in order to get a good deal on decent NA...almost impossible

airbrush1 11-21-2007 04:09 PM

we even put decent money on them as trade ins.... it's a pain in the ass, I always chech at work to see if we get any traded in that are cheapish, but it never seems to happen

Zabac 11-21-2007 04:16 PM

at my old job, we had a 91 come in on trade, ran like shit, but good body, no hard top, we put 1500 on it...i was like whaaaaaaa

There are a couple winners from my area. I have noticed lately that everyone thinks their stuff is worth 1.5 or 2 times what it is actually worth. It could be just here in MI though.

miataz 11-21-2007 10:07 PM

I live in canada there are cheap ones. I bought mine for 5grand and it has 160,000kms on it, no rust mint. I use the website www.autotrader.ca

Trent 11-21-2007 10:43 PM

you just have to look long enough.

my first miata had a Greddy kit on it and a torsen and i picked it up for $1000. My second miata was free. I gave it to my dad. My third miata was ALSO free, but it's more of a parts car than anything.

levnubhin 11-21-2007 11:01 PM

It took me a while to find one in good shape for a fair price. I paid 2k for mine with 168k on it. I would bet as early NA's in good shape become more rare the price will actually go up a bit.

And the 90 is the most because it is the first year the miata came out. Neighbor and his buddy bought one for 6 grand with hard top the other was a 97 for 7 grand with hard top both no rust and low kms. I think the 90's will go up in price even more eventually if you have one and keep it in good condition with low kms.

samnavy 11-21-2007 11:50 PM

^That's crazy talk. It's just a car and will never be a collector... like my neighbor who bought a first year BMW Z3 and drove it about 100miles a month because he swore it would be collectible... then the second year they put the inline-6 motor in it and his dropped in value overnight.

http://norfolk.craigslist.org/car/485988503.html

Granted it's had a lot of recent work... but he also conveniently didn't list the mileage so you know it's a lot. $6200 for a stock '90... I want what he's smokin'!

Trent 11-21-2007 11:56 PM

the PITA of it all is that mazda sold just enough of these things to keep them from being a classic while not selling quite enough so i can find a damn driver's side fender in a junk yard. lol.

cjernigan 11-22-2007 12:03 AM

I know of a few relatively cheap ones.

Both have serious issues though. Atlanta craigslist has cheap ones pretty often. Keep your eye open.

or a finish panel!

Doppelgänger 11-22-2007 12:05 AM

l o l..... prices are up because of all the drifter idiots grabbing them up.... like 240's and Corollas (btw,i stopped doing any drifting awhile back and can't change my name). Not to mention that people with "low milage" NA's think its some kinda collectable shit. I saw some guy on m.net with a 4,000mi 93 and was thinking he could sell it for like $15k. So i did a NADA price and it was like $4000 hahaha

No joke, i'd almost want to buy it. With no place to keep it and the lack of a need of another project I decided not to.

90 is the least desirable year to me, unless it's had an engine replacement.

Shit, I only paid 8 for my 96 in 2001, I am sure as hell not paying 6 for a 1990 in 2007! and that car only had 23k miles.

yep, short nose crank, FTL.

cjernigan 11-22-2007 12:34 AM

I paid 7600 for my '99 with all the turbo setup, stereo and wheels? You can find cheap cars. Just have to wait and look.

bryantaylor 11-22-2007 01:00 AM

its damn hard to find a cheap one here. i have seen plenty of beat to shit ones go for 3000. i paid 1700 for my 90 with a new top on it. but i have found some nasty rusted out floorboards on it

viciousclipse 11-23-2007 09:56 AM

i paid $1000 for my '90 with 120,000

but its an automatic:eek4:

Zabac 11-23-2007 10:32 AM

reason prices are high is not because some idiots think their cars are worth it, but because some bigger idiots believe it and pay it, as long as there are people willing to pay the money, the sellers are gonna ask for it...
i paid $2200 for my 94R with 79K back in 2003, i could sell it for twice that now with 145K, just have to find someone thats gonna pay it...

http://localsalesnetwork.com/listing...ks/199118.html
as far as this guy goes, i dont think he forgot to put the seals in, he prolly meant he forgot to put the new ones in, im sure it has seals in it, just bad...
some go snag that car for like a grand...fix'er up with some seals and sell it

miatanutz 11-23-2007 10:40 AM

Fact is that clean NA's fetch pretty decent $$ and have been at a fairly constant price for a while now. Of course some find deals outside of the norm and that is often mistaken for the value range.
Early NBs are plummeting in value right now...they are the most vulnerable in terms of value loss. This will level out at some point.
Bottom line is that in reality one can sell a clean early NA at about the same price as a 99 or 00...if not more.
Bitch about it if you want but thats the way it is.

fourwhls 11-23-2007 11:14 AM

I have a clean '95 that will be going up for sale in a few weeks. It's black with a brand new tan top and tan leather interior. It only has 69k miles!

It currently has a Jackson Racing SC installed. I'm trying to decide whether to pull the SC and sell it separate or leave it on.

I am thinking $5200 with the SC or $4700 without. Worst case I wait till spring and get top $$$ for it.

The only downside to this car is that I pulled the torsen and put it in my car. It now has a 4.3 viscous.

what i would do if i was in your place is remove the supercharger, if you want to get the most out of it you have to sell it in stock form, enthusiaists typically do not want to overpay for a car (read above, lol) so you are looking for a different buyer, waiting till spring will add another year to your car, so market it under "get it now before price goes up in spring" type of deal, the buyer for this car will believe that...you want someone with 4-5 cash to spend on a fun weekend car, and thats usually not your younger folk
good luck in your sale, make sure you get plenty of internet coverage

kung fu jesus 11-23-2007 12:36 PM

it's pretty easy to find miatas under $3k out here.

gwilo 11-23-2007 12:36 PM

up here in Vancouver the prices did drop for a while , but the the AutoX kids noticed that their Civics where getting their asses kicked by these 'girl' cars. So the price is now going up

Now they all want the 'cool' AutoX / Drift car.

You can spot them driving as they alway keep the top on (or hardtop) in summer. I guess it is an Asian thing by a drop top but never go topless???

jayc72 11-23-2007 02:01 PM

A decent 1.6 will still fetch upwards of $7000 here. Couple of years ago that was $10K. I know people that have sold their done up turbo cars for over $17K.

Zabac 11-23-2007 02:14 PM

wow, lets start a business together, import NA's into Canada and make $$$

Ben 11-23-2007 02:23 PM

why is it...
