Why all the problems?

Why is everyone blowing motors, splooging oil, or otherwise having the worst luck around lately. Just today i think there has been 2-3 major failures and what... 5 guys saying they leaking oil from somewhere due to bad PCV/crankcase ventilation. It's insane. I'm not knocking newbs or anything, but i've never read about so much carnage. If someone looked at the board today they would say screw FI, i want to be able to drive my car.

Maybe that's why we're all on jackstands all the time.
Glad i'm not propped up anymore, i had my share of looking at my car on ramps for a while.

what you said is true, why I don't know, more power?

Loki047 04-14-2007 03:30 AM

Its spring! everyone is getting there cars out and really driving em...

Ya and I pulled my motor to fix an oil leak the other day. Resealed the oil pan and pump, and honed out the bore that the CAS goes into for good measure since it had a little scratch. Put the motor back in, and its still leaking. Then noticed it might be coming out of the valve cover gasket, so took the basically new seal and added some rtv. Still leaking and i guess ill check the cam seals next. Its lame, but my car is fast ... messy, but fast.

why not in the rain?

Failures to date, items that I didn't molest:
temp sensor for cooling fans
(1) silicone coupler *
turbo oil return hose *
clutch slave
dipstick handle *

Failures to date, items that I screwed with causing failure:
AFM *
original clutch *

* turbo related

It would be the most reliable car ever if I stopped screwing with it.

yah I've been having some rough luck lately, oh well it's not that bad.

cuase i am tunning a new EMS with a new clutch and oversteer isnt as fun when you are trying to type on a keybaord ;)

Al Hounos 04-14-2007 06:34 PM

i went out for a tuning session today in the rain. it's good because it makes you focus on the boring tuning, the stuff in vacuum. :D i got the accel enrich a little smoother today too. i don't see the need for a tps, unless you're really ----.

cjernigan 04-14-2007 06:56 PM

So you're using map accel i take it?
I've been using TPS dot this whole time. Any benefits of using MAPdot?

Al Hounos 04-15-2007 02:29 AM

yeah, I use mapdot. IMO, they can both work just as well as each other, but since your car came with a linear tps, use it. it is useful for boost control.

some say that map dot willl always have a slight lag in reaction versus tps, but it doesn't make sense really, MAP changes the instant you move the throttle.

when i did my timing belt job, my front main seal had a slight leak, so i replaced it. well.........now it has a much larger leak. Reverse progress, ftl.

God damn this is a fitting thread ... Ya my engine is fuxxord as of today as well. :td: Im starting a thread to discuss my options.

magnamx-5 04-15-2007 08:55 AM

i can tune out of boost in the garage hell. no need to do that on the raod.

m2cupcar 04-15-2007 11:46 AM

yep- has mr. C brought the wrath of engine failure to mt.net with this thread? ;)

cjernigan 04-15-2007 01:40 PM

Didn't mean to jinx everyone. Sorry.
