Why you shouldn't buy an NA Miata

Why You Shouldn?t Buy An NA Miata

Summary, I paid someone to basically restore my Miata, bitches about cost to own. Do you even lift bro? Apologizes if already posted.

rleete 09-18-2014 08:28 PM

What a twat. My Miata, with over 100k has always been more reliable than my Jeep, which had 25,000 fewer miles and was 10 years newer.

If you don't know anything about cars, expect to be taken, like most idiots. Act like a bitch, get treated like one.

Erat 09-18-2014 08:50 PM

Dafug? All those named items are just general maintenance items for a 20 year old car... God forbid he bought a 20 year old BMW. I've done all that and then some on my 94. Even with 250hp it's still reliable as ever.

What a twat is right.

Ryephile 09-18-2014 09:04 PM

So he bought a high mileage car that wasn't maintained for shit, and is now whining like a bitch that he has to maintain it. On top of that, he's clueless about maintaining anything at all, and thinks "metric" qualifies as special tools.

He's certainly special......ed.

I can't get my click back either.

aidandj 09-18-2014 09:06 PM

The worst part was the 1000 dollars for a CAS. He got ripped off like no other on that deal.

GeneSplicer 09-18-2014 09:51 PM

Written by someone who doesn't know the difference between SAE and metric.... good grief.

mellowout 09-18-2014 10:28 PM

Looks like I need to get into the Miata CAS repair business... $1000 a pop for an hour job tops...

Best reply in the comments:

You seem to be a candidate for an 06 Accord. Cheapish, reliable and you probably won't have to wrench on it for awhile. Take it to jiffy lube. Drive it for 200k miles then swap it for another relatively late model car.

I get the point of your article. The bottom line is, you no longer or never liked working on cars. There's nothing wrong with that. Just accept that old cars are no longer for you and leave them to those of us who enjoy wrenching. I'd probably re-title the story to:

curly 09-18-2014 11:20 PM

Even Rosenthal shows brand new cam angle sensors for $560+shipping. Where the other $440 to install came from, I have no idea.

And who would actually buy a brand new CAS?!?! The ignorant fool who wrote the article I suppose.

Buyer Beware: 1 in 10 people are completely and utterly clueless. Possibly more.

Commiserating naïveté loves company.

Also people don't look at the particulars of the story like we all have. The idiot doesn't know jack from shit about cars.

-Doesn't research the actual cost of having your CAS replaced by a shop
-Probably didn't ask what the shop rate was
-Didn't ask if they had experience with Miatas
-Didn't get a PPI done before the purchase of the car
-Blames others when the fault is his own

Jackass has "take advantage of me" written all over his face. Honestly can't blame the shop for taking him for a ride. He should be thankful and use it as a learning experience to pull his head out of his ass.

Erat 09-19-2014 06:00 AM

For all i care, everyone in the world can read this story and agree with it...

Just less moron idiot mouth breathers buying decent Miata's and stancing them or doing whatever they do them.

hornetball 09-19-2014 08:02 AM

^werd

Saves miatas for us and (hopefully) keeps prices reasonable.

Braineack 09-19-2014 08:12 AM

This should be retitled: why you shouldn't buy any 20 year car that hasn't been maintained.

If anyone needs a $1000 CAS let me know, I've got a couple extra in the garage. I can personally deliver it anywhere in the continental US.

dieselmiata 09-19-2014 02:02 PM

But it's 20 years old! The $1000 "new" one from Mazda was made yesterday, right? :crx:
