Windows - Anderson, Milgard or something else?
 

Anyone have industry experience or can share their experience for new windows?

#1 requirement, block sound. I live by a long, popular freeway that goes over a mountain. Noisy commutes start at 5am, 18 wheelers downshift, and on weekends sport bikes, classic cars and exotics race down the hill.
2. Low maintenance. I’m not the type of person that’s washing my 2nd story, or even 1st story windows more than once every 10 years. I’m just lazy.
3. Working on the Miata means I may touch the windows with slightly greasy hands. Can’t stain too easily.
4. Temperature is probably lowest requirement.

First few contractors visited mentioned Milgard, mostly because manufacturing is close by and a good warranty. But what’s good for the installer may not be what’s good for the customer. I’m not rich, but this may be the forever home regardless. So putting a little more into the windows would be considered if there’s a tangible benefit. And I like sleep.

Any tips appreciated.

Don't forget warranty.

Milguard has a lifetime warranty for the original purchaser. So as long as you are the owner they will fix any problems with them for free, that kind of takes care of durability.

We have quite a few windows. And I can hear cars in my driveway, but pretty much anything past like 100-200 yards is silent.

We have Milguard too. They are >20 years old and have held up nicely here in the Pacific NW. The only issue is that the white frame gets covered with green algae, probably not a problem in San Diego.

I also have Milguard and they have been great. Mine are 5 years old and really helped stabilize temps in the house.

They're down the street from me. Just about every house in this area runs these. But i'm not sure if they do windows in Cali.

We can get them factory direct, for really cheap. 35 year transferrable warranty.
