Customary "doughnut video" to follow on Saturday.

I only drove around the block a bit, but can feel the difference, cant wait to test it out on Saturday for my first autox of the season.

BTW, Brian, preload tested at around 190ft/lbs.

mmmmm.... ell, ess, dee
sounds like you shimmed it- do you have the specs/thickness on your shims, and what you used? which rear?

it was from a 84-85 GSL. Pulled it out, bolted on the ring gear, swapped it in, and dropped it off with a guy to set it up.

To test, I put one wheel on the ground, put a torque wrench to the axle bolt started at 40ft/lbs. untill i hit about 190 it would slip. Is that the correct way to test?

It makes the car a lot more fun, doesn't it.

I do kinda wish I had put shims in though, the plates were at full OEM spec thickness, but I guess OEM just isn't very stiff.

I've got mine all built up with new parts and one of the thicker washers per side, but not in the car yet. 190 ft-lbs sounds very tight, you almost have a locker!!!

did i perform that test correctly? It definatly felt different than my vlsd in the 2 minutes i drove it. Had cold RT215s on it and swung the rear out easier than ever. Took some good corners and it gripped great.

Yeah, I would say so. One wheel locked and turn the axle nut until it breaks free and at the torque rating it does is what your preload is. Did you feel the tires skip any at low speed like pulling into a parking spot? My wife's Trailblazer SS does that when you first pull it out of the garage and the fluid is still cold.

that sounds like a proper check to me. Mine had all discs within spec when I got it, but I was still planning on shims. I thought I'd have the cash to build it with 3.63 gears... but that still hasn't come about.

I was saying for me, lol. I keep "subtly" hinting at it to you :P **** even a piece of paper with circles drawn on it that I could drill out on plate metal would rock.

Damn- ok. Subtle is something I expect from a woman. :gay:
PM'd - just make sure you print them at 100% and match them to your miata motor mounts first.
