Ok, yeah, that was quality. The biggest intake restriction is the 100 kpa thing at the end of all these fancy pipes.

Maybe an well-below-zero intercooler for N/A cars. That would be cool. Something that cools the air to -150.

function over form.

in his case: 140° AIT over 145° AIT.

I have some of that foam stuff. It stands up to some high temperatures. I put it between things that like to rub such as i/c pipes and between my air filter and hood.

Braineack 01-08-2008 06:21 PM

did you make a "cold" air box out of it. and route a random tube from the firewall into it. because the suction from the filter is so great it will scavenge air from the cowl.

Bryce 01-08-2008 06:41 PM

Nope, I'd rather cut a hole in the firewall and put my air filter in the cowl itself.

The pressure of the cowl is good enough. My filter is next to the firewall on the passenger side, and just cutting a hole there lowered the temps past filter by quite a bit (from maybe 140 to ambient)

Braineack 01-08-2008 11:16 PM

the pressure from the cowl is not enough to duct back into the bay about 2 feet and over pressure the air coming in from the wheel well. its a silly design.

Bryce 01-08-2008 11:57 PM

Hmmm, point taken. So it looks like I'll be getting my air from the front of the car.

Braineack 01-09-2008 12:01 AM

well look at his filter, then the duct to the cowl. if it were plumbed to the stock box then yeah the vacuum would draw right out of the cowl area....but his design just assumes the airflow will feed the intake, i doubt it. plus that's just some insane effort to receive the same benefit as moving the filter to the wheel well.

Feel like doing a Begi style airbox?

Link to compact air filters....
