WTF! Need input on shipping BS!

So today got a package and there is nothing in it, should have been m-tuned rods. I haven't opened it (and won't till I can get resolution or something) but I can see somebody cut open the side with no stickers and removed the rods, then packing taped it shut. The shipping info states the weight was 2.33kg(5.1lbs), it was $25 to ship, it was insured for $100, and the package contained connecting rods. It came from Canada and I don't think the seller is trying to bone me in any way, shape, or form.

There is a sticker on the front that states (in red):
Inquiry section
Springfield NDC
190 Fiberloid St.
Springfield MA 01152-9702

Received without contents

Nobody is picking up at the Springfield post office (naturally) so I am trying to find info other ways. The tracking states it was on hold at my post office yesterday along with an ominous S/A in pen with the same date on the side of the box. Anybody have any insight?

If it was received w/o contents, the post office is putting the blame on the seller. If you paid w/ paypal, I hope you used your credit card to fund it or you may have no recourse. It was only insured for $100 (which will be denied anyway if usps claims it received w/o contents). It's also likely that the shipper and usps will just point fingers and blame each other.

I never buy anything substantial w/ paypal anymore w/o putting it on a credit card. At least that way you can dispute the charges and get your money back. I will not pay cash or check to any individual I don't know unless they are willing to send me the item first, which is very unlikely.

Wish you the best man.

I have a feeling the two different postal systems are going to blame eachother and I will get nothing :(

+1

I'd call your CC company first (I hope you went that route).

astroboy 11-25-2010 08:03 AM

I will, but nothing is open compliments of thanksgiving. Thanks for the input guys. Also contemplating contacting federal whomever for theft of mail. I don't think anything fruitful would come of it but it's worth a shot.

Anybody know what people in canada use to sell stuff (they don't seem to use craigslist)?

shlammed 11-25-2010 09:51 AM

kijiji in canada.

return for refund, have seller request insurance claim and get his "$100" back.

I've had UPS actually deliver the flat SIDE of a box with the label on it and then give me a hard time when I wanted to process a claim because the "package" was "delivered".

Thankfully I insured it for the replacement value and they finally did the right thing.

astroboy 11-25-2010 10:33 PM

Thanks for the input guys. Going to try to get this figured out tomorrow.

astroboy 11-26-2010 07:24 PM

So after showing the empty package to the post office they pointed out that the postal system isn't exactly gentle when it is shipping and there is a chance the side got ripped off and the rods fell out. Likely, not in my mind but I am going to file paperwork anyways and see if the rods and hardware can be located.

We are also filing a claim with the Canadian postal system to see if they will refund for the value of the rods and whatnot.

Its crazy that this happened. Just the other day I was thinking about possible loop holes in the paypal system, and thought, I wonder what would happen if someone sent me a package with nothing in it but had a tracking number, correct weight & postage - the whole 9 yards to back themselves up. I mean, if you open a dispute with paypal, the seller would have all the documentation to prove he shipped the item (At least in theory) so how would paypal come to the correct conclusion in the dispute....That sux man!

astroboy 11-26-2010 09:57 PM

I think the only way they could get paperwork that said the weight was different than it actually was is if they had shady friends working for the post office/ups/fedex or if they worked for the system themselves. Either way this isn't the case with me imo.

astroboy 01-10-2011 04:24 PM

Well looks like the result is the seller is accusing me of having stolen the rods and is going to give me the $100 insurance check. Guess you win some and you loose some :sad2:

Braineack 01-10-2011 04:30 PM

lol, that's a good scam! nice one astro.

astroboy 01-10-2011 05:19 PM

Thanks! I have peoples workin in mass for me waiting for me to order parts and have them shipped through the springfield ndc so we can scam for $270:rolleyes:

JayL 01-10-2011 05:22 PM

Who's the mystery seller?

astroboy 01-10-2011 05:30 PM

I would not like to divulge that until we come to a final agreement. I gave him a list of references so he can investigate my integrity when doing business to help him make an informed decision.

chicksdigmiatas 01-10-2011 06:29 PM

I would tell him you are a fagatron, and stole all of the marshmallows out of my lucky charms when I was 8. J/K I hope everything works out fine.

gospeed81 01-10-2011 06:55 PM

Recently had the post office open and reclose a box of injectors I sent to DW for a friend.

Used RX7 460s, and they stole them...DW got an empty box.

Shady.

astroboy 01-10-2011 06:58 PM

Are you/your friend going to get insurance money back for them?

240_to_miata 01-10-2011 07:34 PM

Ill back you up . . . I have been in your garage rumaging thru all your miata parts in the last 2 weeks... you dont have any Mtuned rods, lol

(btw I have your 99 throttle body sitting in my car for next time we meet up)

FWIW idk what the description of the package was, but i NEVER give details beyond "car parts" for the fear that some loser at ups / usps / fedex would see the description and decide to have an early xmas.

The only time I have ever put a detailed description beyond 'car parts', the box showed up at the buyer's house with a PnP harness and missing the AEM ecu. Don't you just love fedex.

I hope you find your rods man.

astroboy 01-20-2011 05:40 PM

Well now I am rapidly loosing faith in usps' ability to safely ship items. I got a piece of cardboard in the mail that should have had an oil pump in it :( Hopefully the bad luck up front will mean my build will go off without any problems...here are some things to look at other than words:

Rod package:

Vashthestampede 01-20-2011 05:52 PM

So wait.....you just got a piece of cardboard? No oil pump?

If that's the case then damn man that sucks. USPS has been good to me (knock knock) but I know plenty of others that have had issues with them. For me its UPS that eats a fat dick.

Any chance your carrier dislikes you or has a miata of his own? jk

wayne_curr 01-20-2011 06:14 PM

This has happened to me. Shipped an IAT sensor and something else. The buyer opened the package and the IAT sensor was gone somehow. He accused me of not sending it so I had to purchase a new one and have it drop shipped to him to keep my name in the clear. Glad to hear i'm not the only one.

I think I may not use USPS anymore. Flat rate boxes rock but this really blows...

They also raised all the pricing. Even on flat rate shit.

I noticed it last week when I was printing out labels for a couple small flat rate packages. Used to be $4.95 and now its $5.20. :vash:

astroboy 03-23-2011 10:37 AM

So bring this situation to a close the seller was E-NA6CE and he is now ignoring my phone calls and emails. The last email he sent me (2 months ago when we decided to wait and see if usps would be able to find the rods) he stated he would at the least give me the $100 insurance money that was refunded to him. So in short I would not make a purchase from him again because he will most likely not man up to his mistakes (in my case insuring my rods for only $100 without asking me if it would be ok to do so) again.

The other lost package worked out (the seller sent me a new oil pump).
