I had a booth at a gun show on March 30th (one month ago). I paid $65 for the booth and sold, IIRC:

3 Mosins from my collection
3 spam cans of 7.62x54R for $.25 per round
1 box of CCI SV .22lr @ $.20 per round
1 box of 7.62x39 for $.50 per round
1 box of .380 for $.50 per round

The place was very crowded but I would bet that only 1% purchased anything.

I'm pretty excited. Last night I went to pickup my new (to me) well used Marlin Model 60. Looked it over, operated the bolt, handed the guy money, stuffed the rifle in my soft case and rolled out. Wasn't until several hours later that I got a chance to closely inspect my new purchase.

Something didn't seem right with this new rifle, specifically the length. Come to find out instead of being a Marlin Model 60, it's actually a Glenfield Model 75C, which is basically an identical rifle only 4 inches shorter. SCORE! Overall condition of the stock I'd put about a 6.5/10 with no major damage and a few scratches, condition of the finish of the rifle is closer to a 3/10 which is what I expected. Removed the two screws holding the receiver to the stock and started to tear it down for inspection and a little bit of cleanup. Didn't take any pictures (I should have!) of the inside condition but I'd be willing to bet this rifle was likely never cleaned. After a brief function check and parts inspection it appears the only piece I need to order is a new bolt buffer as the included one was rotten and broken in half.

Front sight was loose, rear sight was missing the elevation wedge. Specifically this guy told me "it's accurate as hell!" Damn rednecks. Submitted an order for a set of Tech-Sites already which will resolve that issue, now I just have to figure out what to use and how the hell to refinish the metalwork on it...


In other news, I've found a place selling 80% AR305, AR15, and 1911 receivers on the super cheap which allegedly come with drilling jigs. For non-finished (not anodized, just raw Al) AR308/AR15 you're looking at $25 each. If I can confirm the AR308 is DPMS compatible I'm going to take my chances and buy a couple of both...

This morning my friend lucked out and was able to buy several cases of ammo.

On the way home he stopped at the gas station where a drop-dead gorgeous blonde was filling up her car at the next pump.

She looked at the ammo in the back of my pickup truck and said in a very sexy voice, “I’m a big believer in barter. Would you be interested in trading sex for ammo?”

He thought a few seconds and asked, “What kinda ammo ya got?”

Recently have started to load my own .223 rounds finally and kinda hate the process, specifically measuring out the charge. In an attempt to speed up this process I picked up a new item the other day and have a fair amount of confidence in it with a ball type powder, specifically CFE223 and H335 from Hodgdon.



Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge powder scale. Works pretty well, though when I move again my dedicated reloading bench is going to require a wall mounted table specifically for this device, it's VERY sensitive to table vibrations.


Next on the list is a chronograph to test some of my loads and see what kind of performance I'm seeing, but in the mean time I decided to test some of the rounds MY way.

Data: 25.0gr Hodgdon CFE223, CCI #400 primer, Sierra 55gr BlitzKing-BT loaded to 2.20" COAL fired from a HBAR H&R 20" barrel from 100 yards.

Da Fuq happened?! First off, I zero'd my scope with factory PMC .223 FMJ loads and figured my loads would be fairly close. Well technically they weren't, I was about 2" low @ 100 yards because my POA was the read head magnets. Wait a second, those bullets aren't supposed to expand until they hit something solid, which means it should've turned the back side of that drive into a canoe!

I'll be DAMNED! Could not have planned that better if I tried! Grazed the top of the beer box full of phone books and started the bullet expansion process prematurely, but damn did it make one hell of a souvenir!

Set it back up and figured I'd try for the magnet again with a good hold but pulled the shot so again I missed the magnets. That's okay though, because it "caught" another slug! Finally decided I had enough ******* around and put a 55gr fmj round almost dead center on the second slug for the win:





That's what I'm freakin' talkin' about! That drive is sitting on my desk at work, makes a great conversation piece! Several people have commented "dang, I'll make body armor out of hard drives!" until I show them the FMJ hole... Next trip I'm going to put a single FMJ through as many hard drives in a row as I can, curious to see what it'll burn through.

Did a lot of homework on them about a year ago with mixed feedback. I think their quality control suffers for some reason and the thread below would confirm it's still a problem. If you're looking for a cheap entry upper in something other than .223, it may be worth it if you've got the tools and skills to followthrough if there's something wrong with it.

I had read that they use Wilson Arms barrels also.

Yah, seemed hit or miss. Not worth it. Ordered a 14.5 BCM barrel to pin a comp onto for a light weight upper for my nice AR.

Badass! What are those going for now??? I got mine for $99 about 6 years ago. Just did some modifying (stock, scope, tri rail, and cut the barrel) I'm about to crown the barrel as soon as the kit comes in.

Was in my local mega Walmart today in the busiest part of town at noon. SG lady said they got a decent shipment in yesterday. Tons still left in the case.

I have used this Walmart as a gauge, and if it's any indication, the bubble is quickly bursting. I'll probably go back this evening for some more.

My 91/30 was $110.00 a couple years ago, this M44 however was $200. Considering I've seen **** poor condition M44s go for over $280 here recently..

Has anyone here invested in body armor for home defense purposes? I've read through a bunch of threads on various forums, and it seems like there are basically 3 opinions.

1. I'm a skilled ninja and it will take me 4.3 seconds from hearing a noise to being fully awake, armored up and ready to go.
2. If someone is breaking into my home, then I'll be going from groggy to full of adrenaline and I don't want to waste time trying to get a vest on.
3. It's an option. Put it on if you have time, bypass it if the situation is moving too quickly.

I find #3 to be the most reasonable. I can envision all kinds of scenarios where I'd prefer to have body armor available, and even in the "worst case" scenarios where I don't have time to put it on, my wife could still put it on as she retreats further into the house to call the police.

Just curious if anyone else has considered this, and what conclusions you came to (and what you ended up purchasing).

I think it was samnavy who posted before about having a 3x3 square of some type of ballistic resistant material behind a defensible position. He (or whoever actually posted this) was of the opinion that if one hears a bump in the night and goes looking for trouble, trouble will be found. Better to live another day and call the police to do the dirty work. OTOH, if you are interested in trouble: Tactical Lightweight Bulletproof Shield by Armor Express - Fleet Safety

Don't have to waste time putting it on. Simply Grap n' Go. And it makes for a deadly weapon as well.
