I'd probably be up for finding my way down south... but I don't hunt. Not in the point of my life where i need to kill my food to eat it. If I ever get there... I'll hunt no question.
And people really don't eat the hogs, or am I mis-remembering that? Just not a fan of hunting unless its for food.

Just had to do a little machining to the upper... yes - bow to me.
300AAC BLK upper with Soundtech Suppressor pinned on a 10.5" (didn't want to wait 6mo for SBR paperwork), OPS-4 upper reciever with ambi-bolt charging - yeah, better watch the way I shoot it. Need to paint and the the lower on for a full photo shoot. Subs to come in Monday.

My yearly hunt in Texas (coming up the first week of Nov) consists of 6-7 guys all trying to get their limit... 5 deer, no more than 2 bucks. Unless it's something we're going to mount, or a really old small buck, we've been spending the past 5 years doing some serious management on this property. Based on the game-cams, we're going to be hard pressed to find any spikes or *********... everything is worth a shot.
I usually take a medium sized doe on the last day that I intend to harvest, the other guys do similar. The rest we give to a neighbor who processes them himself and eats deer all year long. He brings over about 20 lbs of jerky on the first day and we nibble on it the whole week in the blinds. Freaking yummm!
For those of you who've never hunted, watch some Outdoor Channel... it's exactly like that except most of us don't have equipment that nice.
My weapon of choice for years for white-tail has been a 40yr old Sako .25-06 with an equally old Redfield 3-9x40 scope. Good firearms will be good forever, and that old Sako is every bit the tack-driver that my buddies brand new Remingon 700 is... maybe even better. My longest shot with the Sako was 380yds, with a 12" eyeball hold-over... ended up about 4" left of point-of-aim, but she only ran about 30yds.
If I can get my 300blk upper built in time, I'm gonna really enjoy hunting with it, but I'll probably get at least one a year with that old Sako for a very long time because I just love it.

What optic do you gays think I should get for the 300blk? What do you plan on using Sam? I had a 1.5-6x Burris extreme tactical for 308 on my AR10 - was a nice hold-over reticle optic - might go the same style platform? Since it's really just a 200yd weapon, I don't think anything crazy is needed - but it's all in the glass.

For subs, it's tough. If zero'd at 100yds, you've got over 30" of drop at 200yds. I don't know what kind of scope you're gonna find that will do that kind of drop at that range... maybe a handgun scope. I've been reading on the 300blk forum and nobody wants to talk about it. Srsly... I have no clue what I'm gonna do long term. To start, I'm gonna go with a red-dot and figure it out. Primary Arms is having a Columbus Day Sale on Bushnell TRS-25's and a mount for $80. If you have the budget, the answer is always Aimpoint Micro.
I see a lot of guys now running the 1-4x tactical scopes, and getting a railed mount cap and putting a holographic site on it... very slick.
For supers from a short barrel, the Millet 1-4x24 DMS is getting great reviews at $200.

SWFA SS 3-9x42 Tactical 30mm Riflescope
Sighted at 100, shoots to 400 no problem. I keep a ballistics drop chart handy and just dial in my range.

I was looking between $5-600, hell SWFA has a 1.5-6x Ballistic plex Burrris for $400 LINK, but I'm not crazy about the bulky reticle. I love fine hairs/dots as I like to not obscure the target. I once owned an IOR on my .260 rig back in the day - super sweet optic with amazing reticle - and that also cost me $1500 too. ANY nice optic with a hold-over reticle can be used to compensate for drop - just gotta send some (many) rounds down range and figure out what what works where. The standard 600m mark on the XTR 5.56 might equal to 225yds for 300BLK subsonic.
This Burris reticle was on the AR10 for easy hold-over and shoot:

Been thinking all day about 300AAC... talked it over with some buddies too.
I buy guns as tools. Everything I buy has a place/purpose in my overall "plan". I don't buy toys and am not a collector. I would own a lot more guns that are more specialized in what they do if the wife/funds would allow, but everything I buy has to fit into the plan and pull it's weight.
The plan for the 300blk upper was so that my AR could double as a hunting rifle. Not buying another gun (just gun parts) would make the wife happy, it would be cheap'ish, yadda yadda.
But I've been looking at all aspects of it. I'm in for $360 shipped for the upper. Then another $150'ish for a scope. Ammo isn't by any means expensive, but it's not as available as other calibers. Basically it just doesn't make sense for me. I'll never own a suppressor myself for it, and $500 can get me a great bolt-gun and scope in .308 or 30-06, which makes way more sense.
I don't think I'll be in the market this year, but before next season, I'll just start my search by looking at used Remington 700's... why make it hard, you know.

Leupold jumped on the 300AAC with their Mark 4 MR/T 1.5-5x20mm (30mm) M2 with their 300 blackout reticle... just a penny drop at a retail of $1749 on a side note, opticsplanet has them for a meer $1400... there's also Browe and Eotech... your $150 scope is starting to sound good. Seriously, does one need a $1500 scope for shooting to maybe 250yds??
