That's pretty much how us CA boys have been doing it for a while. Stick it to 'em while we can!
In other news, the small collection of stripped lowers in my safe that I've been too lazy/broke to build out are suddenly worth more than gold here in the "Golden State"
I'm very tempted to sell them off and buy naughty things from TSE.

So.
A year ago I bought a Plum Crazy complete lower for $120.
A month ago I bought a Core15 partial lower (FCG, but no buffer tube or stock) for $200.
Tonight I sold the Plum Crazy lower for $350.
When it's back in stock, I'll order a B5 SOPMOD Bravo stock and milspec buffer assembly for $100 ($60+$40).
Yay me!

Feinstein can go **** herself with a broken beer bottle.
Winning.
Took the GF out shooting for the first time Yesterday to some land we've got down south. Happily burned through about 350 rounds of .22lr and about 10 rounds of .223.
Discovered that TulAmmo copper clad steel rounds will burn a hole through half of a 4" steel 1/4" wall pipe. Pretty cool.

I've got a MEGA stripped lower that I bought once upon a time in a SIG forum group buy. At the time, MEGA was a top quality machine shop that did mostly aerospace type stuff and only produced limited runs when they were in-between big contracts. I figured I'd assemble a custom rifle and get to enjoy picking out all the custom bits myself.
It ended up getting pushed to the backburner and I don't shoot nearly as much as I used to. On one hand, I'm tempted to sell it if there is any froth in the market. On the other hand, it's probably only worth $100 - $200 so it may be better to consider it a sunk cost and just hang on to it for (A) future price appreciation in the event of a new "black rifle ban" or (B) to build as a grandfathered-in component.

A) Buy the components to go ahead and finish an AR build? Are components outrageously priced as well?
B) Try to sell them to go towards funding a semi-auto home defense-related shotgun that might not get shot that often?
C) Try to sell them and pay for more track time/add to the TSE turbo kit budget?
D) Just hold on to them for now.
E) ?
For reference, I hardly ever go to the range any more and don't see me and/or the wife doing any 3-gunning any time in the near future. I've got a full-sized pistol (P229) and a pocket pistol (LCP) and that's it at the moment. I like the concept of a semi-auto 20-gauge for use in home defense settings as a compromise for our specific situation (no kids, single-family home, she is familiar with operations but not going to go practice drills every weekend, etc).
I am assuming part of the problem with selling them to put towards any firearm is like any bubble: your items have gone up in price but so have the items you want to buy.

While I also like the idea of a 20ga semi-auto and the very controllable firepower it brings to a fight... I also feel that the increase in complexity and decrease in reliability isn't worth it considering the specific scenario I've outlined above. While no plan survives contact with the enemy, playing the odds on this one will pay off.
For this reason, I love a full-size 9mm striker-fired with no manual safety, night-sites, and laser, for an all-purpose home defense weapon. Lower recoil due to size, low muzzle-flash, no controls to get in the way, long barrel for increased sight picture, plenty of ammo, AND CAN BE FIRED WITH ONE HAND, freeing the other hand to do whatever, like hold a flashlight or phone
That being said, I also have a readily accessible Mossy 12ga for when the plan goes totally to hell. My house has the advantage of being very defensible from a bedroom setting... the master door is immediately at the top of the stairs, with the kids bedrooms being about 15feet down the hall. I can cover a lane down the stairs, from a slightly recessed position inside the master bedroom door, and still leave roughly 3 walls and some furniture between me and a bad-guy at the bottom of the stairs, with no "line-of-fire" issues for the kids. My wife will sit deeper in the room with the shotgun, or head to the kids rooms with it should the need arise.
I know that I tend to pass unsolicited "advice"... and that my advice tends to lean towards "need few guns and keep it simple". Because of this, whenever I talk to a buddy who has a bunch of guns and wants to buy another one for something that his current guns already do, but he perceives a weakness in his plan or whatever... I always suggest something they don't expect to get their mind away from the very common compulsion that the answer to their problem is "buy another gun".
How many of you own body armor? Second-hand vests are about $300.
How about a 3'x3' plate of AR500 integrated into a piece of furniture or a wall as a natural armored barrier?
How about a CCTV system w/audio monitoring?
Home security system, even a basic wireless door monitor system?
German shepard?
If the wife won't let you get a dog, how about just getting a doghouse in the backyard and some "beware of security dog" signs... throw down a water-bowl and a chewtoy and criminals looking over the fence will move on in a hurry.
How about starting or participating in Neighborhood Watch?
In any case, like I preach often, a firearm is the last step in you self-defense plan... what could you be investing in now to put more steps/barriers in the way for the bad guy before he forces you to employ deadly force.

This just got me thinking. Has anyone ever had Walmart take down their license info when buying ammo? I don't believe I ever have. I have barely been carded when buying rifle ammo. The other day I picked up a small box of rodent shot .22 and they carded me and plugged some of my info into the computer. Didn't think much of it at the time. Then today I received a written notice (I ordered online) that my backorder of 2 pmags from 12/19 has been canceled. Those 2 things got me thinking about Bidens meetings last week with big retailers like Walmart, dicks and bass pro. I wonder what kind of pressure they put on them and if they caved to tracking ammo sales and high cap mag sales. Don't think I will be buying anymore ammo from Wally World unless its some plinking stuff for that day.

Wait a second... I've never seen this stuff before?! A rifle plate for your average plate carrier is only $65 and will stop multiple hits of M855, 7.62x39 and .308???? HOW??

This target is 3/8" 30x18 for $235 and has a markup since it's at least one more middleman... I can't imagine more than $300 for a 2'x3' piece from an actual metal yard. You obviously don't want this thing shipped to you, but any metal fabrication place can get you this stuff.
Ideally you want to have a piece of this stuff installed IN a wall during home-construction, but it'd still be a piece of cake to take down some drywall and throw it in there as a structural piece of the house.

Sam - I appreciate all of that input. My wife and I have reviewed protocol in the case of a break-in while we are in bed, including where she goes, where I go and what each of us grabs before we get there. We have dogs and an alarm and the master bedroom is in a very "defensible" position which would involve an assailant having to first get up the stairs and then down a hallway.
The P229 has night sights and Crimson Trace grips (and .40 and 9mm barrels).
So assume I decide I don't want/need a shotgun for home defense purposes because the Sig will get the job done. Are AR components ridiculously priced/impossible to get right now? If nothing else, I'm tempted to stockpile the necessary parts to complete the rifle in case a ban does go through and I ever wanted to finish it.

If you want to "stockpile the components in case a ban goes through", then all you *really* need is a stripped lower receiver and you can get the rest later - of course stripped lowers which normally retail for around $80-$120 or so are now selling for $275+++, but that piece of the firearm is the only regulated item...

What about the components that make a sport rifle an "assault rifle?" Is there anything in the proposed legislation that is out there now (like the new Feinstein bill) that might make specific components unavailable for future purchase? I'm thinking of things like a pistol grip.
