Both. $99 "Spikes" lowers are getting marked up to $500 and more. New Frontier Poly lowers (complete) people are trying to get 7 and $800 for when they were $119.99. Parts are sold out, the sheep are willing to pay gold for stupid magpul pmags, gouging on ammo as I illustrated in an earlier post, and the only ammo you'll find retail is $20/box (20 rounds) specialty ammo.

I copied this from another forum I post on to put this situation into perspective:

Folks can sit and hope that prices return to pre-sandyhook status or they can secure what's currently available with the understanding that we likely can't go back.:waa:

That says a lot.

It's tough to say right now what's going to happen. I know that an AWB isn't going to happen anytime soon through the normal means of Congress, nor do I see a whole lot of backroom shenanigans happening. Almost every single poll I've seen (and I see them all) has shown the overwhelming majority of Americans (who take the poll) do not want an AWB, and only a few polls have shown meaningful double-digit percentages of people who are in favor of any new gun control. Obama saw this and did exactly that... lots of mostly meaningless drivel, but left an AWB and mag-limits up to Congress. I'm sure he also consulted with Clinton on the matter who coached him along.

By all the measures I'm seeing, it's going to take about 6-8 months for the current backorders and "rush" buying to subside for the market to steady back out. Demand will still be there, but supply should ramp-up to cover it. There are LOTS AND LOTS of machine shops out there who will gladly fill downtime on a CNC by turning out lowers for a larger manufacturer when their normal business gets slow, or when the price is right.

What the gun industry needs to do now is FLOOD the market with stripped AR15 lowers for cheap so if an AWB happens, every dude will be sitting on 10 of them but still need to build them up. I don't think you'll see stripped lowers for under $100 again until at least early 2014 if there is no AWB and the furor subsides. But for now, every single stripped lower they can make will sell for $300 the instant they're available.

Ammo prices will go back down again as soon as the bigger stores like Cabelas/Academy start getting their shipments of Russian steel re-branded stuff again (Herters and Monarch). The Russsian companies are hopefully working 48hr shifts and we start to see stock return to online sources in the next few months. I went to my local Walmart the other day and spoke to the manager about inbound ammo, and he said he personally was checking every day and there's none in sight.

If you want to know when deals hit the street, you want to watch in the CHEAP PARTS thread at AR15.com, lots of posts there, but refresh every couple of hours or you'll miss.

Oh yea... a GOOD INVESTMENT right now is reloading equipment... no price gouging yet as far as I can tell, and full shelves in the major stores.

The shortage is frustrating enough, but if you search diligently, you can usually snag decent AR parts...but certain stuff is impossible. If you're looking for a specific item, good luck.

I've been trying to find a B5 SOPMOD Bravo stock in FDE for a couple weeks now. I just missed one vendor that had some in stock about a week ago. I've got 3 or 4 email alerts set up.

Also looking for a buffer tube assembly. Sam, any thoughts on buffer weight? This is for a middy 16" barrel.

Standard rules for cheap parts that are easy to swap apply with buffer weights. Buy several, shoot a few mags with each, pick the one you like.

Felt recoil, ejection angle, cycle time, reliable cycling, etc... it's all up to you. For $100, you can buy 3 or 4 different carbine buffers/springs and try them out. No reason not to buy used either. I'll assume this is all for .223/.556 factory loads, right? Some guys run 9mm setups in their .223 guns with good results, but that stuff is more expensive.

Sam, I know you're not from around here, but any thoughts on the NYS bans? No more than 7 rounds (WTF?), banned magazines, etc.

I can't even get Sportsman's Guide to ship me a ******* pocket knife anymore. They obiously won't ship mags, either. Oh, how I hate this state's gov't.

I am not really talking about receivers (I've mentioned several times that I already have a stripped upper and lower). I know about PMags but is the same true for things like trigger groups, buffer tubes, stocks, etc?

That is, the stuff to turn a stripped upper and lower receiver in to a functioning rifle.

I've wanted a few parts here and there but have been unable to locate them personally, all my usual places I know to check seems sold out.

New York is pretty much fucked. Nobody is going to make 7-rd magazines, and within a year or two, they'll find a way to justify "success" along some lines, and institute full registration and more. The current rules pretty much kill all semi-auto everything sales in the state. You're left with revolvers, bolt-action rifles, and certain shotguns. For this reason, many businesses, especially online ones, are simply cutting NYS off completely. Of course, this is what the anti-gun lobby wants, one step closer to their dream of completely disarming the civilian population and on track for eventual mass-confiscation.

I'm not sure where the gun industry is putting their eggs right now. For every state they let enact NYS-style laws, they lose revenue and open the door for other states to justify it. I'm not sure why the manufacturers aren't taking a more aggressive approach. I'm seriously waiting for Glock/S&W/Springfield/Ruger/SIG to get together and issue a notification to NYS police departments that they will no longer be doing ANY business in the state, to include providing arms... and finding some loophole to also refuse warranty work. Ammo manufacturers are also conspicuously quiet. I think the next step after hitting local/state police agencies in the face is to extend refusing business to federal agencies in those states.

I understand that gun companies work under contract systems when dealing with law enforcement agencies... but the writing is on the wall. They're going to have to make some hard choices pretty fast to decide just how far Obama is willing to take this thing.

Even before SHE, most major parts suppliers had backlog of parts... some due to the holidays, some due to hunting season, but mostly due to overall increased hype because of the other recent hi-profile shootings. You could always get what you wanted, but it might take a couple weeks for a large order. Basic-style complete upper receivers have been in short'ish supply for a year or so unless you wanted to spend $1500.

I personally am not buying any AR stuff now. If the prices never go down, then I'm stuck with what I've got... but I have a feeling that as the craziness goes away (unless some other ***-hat shoots up a bus or something), things will return to a more normal industy feel mid-summer sometime... and when that happens, I'm certainly going to get a few receivers and a few dozen mags.

Man - wish it were true, but the reloading **** is getting hard to find too... dies, primers, brass at good prices... at least searching the on-line big guys.. Wideners, Midway, Midsouth, etc... Sadly no local stores here with reloading components.
If this isn't an idication - I just sold 640pc spent brass 5.7x28 for $150 - my buy it now price. Was bought and paid for within 2hrs after listing it... I shouldn't have put a BIN price
Finding 6.5 Grendel dies was tough - same with 300aac
Thank god I was stocked on powder, primers and 223 brass - found some 6.5 expensive hornady projectiles, bought 400rds... ugghh... I miss the cheap Privi stuff - it's all gone

I'm not expecting my 300 upper anytime soon but figure while they're in stock I might pickup some dies.. Do you have a set for 300AAC? All my stuff is Lee cause I'm cheap and willing to hassle with quirky stuff because the price is right. Anyway, just about to buy the Lee Pacesetter 2-die set and wondered if you had experience. I read the "roll crimp" die isn't that great, so +$13 for a factory crimp die...

Just got my 2 ultra-die set from Forester, and the crimp from Lee... still wating on the form die. As long as it crimps a little, it'll be fine - at least enough so the the bullet doesn't get shoved into the case when feeding, esp from an AR platform. I used the Lee roll-crimp on my 308 cases, never had issues shooting the reloads out my AR10. Some dies arent long enough to mount the locking nut on the top of the mount, so I have to lock the nut from below... other than that, I haven't had many issues with dies not working with my Dillon...

Can't wait for the form die (Redding) - will be chucking out 300aac brass from all my 223 casings - the die isn't that big and the RT1200 (yeah, I got it too) needs some threads to mount to. Will proably have to mod the tool head to get it to work. Now just to find a load that works with the 3000+ 150grn .308 projectiles I have.

Groupon Cancels Gun Deals, Sparking Outrage Among Firearms Dealers

I just submitted a "CONTACT US" form to close my Groupon account. I guess I'll have to pay full price for massages and car washes from now on.

Lots of states currently have Consitutional Carry legislation in progress... just like Feinstein throws down an AWB bill every year, there are CC bills put forth in many states every year.

Realistically, only a few states are currently in a position to geta CC bill out for a vote... Utah is definitely one.

Utah bill would do away with need for concealed-gun permit | The Salt Lake Tribune

All you Utah'ites need to make a call or send an email to your reps, and be sure to send one Seelig regarding your opinion on the matter.

Ordered an M4 stock assembly last night from Core15 before I realized it was a comm-spec kit. Boo. Sent an email to their CS dept asking them to cancel order, but don't know if they'll see it in time. I guess I can probably resell it pretty easily if they ship it.

I have 2 complete uppers on backorder and don't know what one to cancel. I ordered a DPMS upper from Midway before Chirstmas and it was suppose to be in stock early Jan. My order didn't get filled with that so now I am pushed back to the end of Feb. When I learned that it didn't get filled I went ahead and placed an order with model1sales.com because I thought they had it in stock. Well come to find out it was also on backorder with no estimated ETA and said they can take as long as 14days to respond to inquiries...

Asking for what? My Core15 lower arrived safe and sound, no problems. Just don't order backordered items or from sketchy websites.

All AR rifles and pistols?

This means the following are banned:

AR-1 - Bolt Action .308
AR-5 - Bolt Action 4-round capacity .22LR
AR-7 - Semi-Auto .22LR 8-round capacity
AR-17 - Semi-Auto Shotgun with 2-Round capacity internal magazine
AR-22 - Blank firing device for training/testing MK-19 40MM grenade launcher
AR-23 - Sub-caliber grenade launcher training device - Fires a low velocity tracer projectile
AR-24 - A series of standard-configuration semi-automatic pistols produced by the Armalite corporation beginning in 2006

Someone please tell me why the designation "AR", which stands for "Armalite Rifle", is so scary. These politicians are attacking an American Company by by portraying that the "AR" designation is evil. What would wal-mart do if the US government successfully convinced Americans that wal-mart is an evil and murderous company, built for the Sole purpose of killing people? When will Armalite sue the U.S. Government and media for the negative brand-association placed on its products? I sure as hell would be talking to my lawyer.

Afterwards Armalite should rename themselves Barmalite and change all the designations to BR-x
