Was at Walmart this morning when they wheeled out the ammo cart to stock the shelves, which consisted of:
1 case of Winchester 9mm 115gr 100rd Value Packs.
1 case of Winchester 12ga #7 shot.
1 case of Winchester 12ga #4 shot.
1 case of CCI .22wmr
and
1 mixed case containing:
5 boxes Winchester .45 100rd value packs
6 boxes Remington 30-06
1 box Federal 12ga OObuck (that's right, ONE BOX)
1 box Remington .243 (which there were alread 10 of on the shelf).
5 boxes Tula 9mm 115gr steel

I got 3 of the 9mm value packs... 300rds for $72.

They were keeping a very strict 3-box limit per person. Another guy there that said he had been showing up a few times a week right at 7am and that ammo (although limited) has been arriving steadily all along.

I suppose I can justify stopping in once or twice a week since he indicated that prices haven't changed at all. Hopefully next time I stop by, there will be some of the Federal 100rd 9mm boxes and maybe some .22lr. In any case, I'll buy whatever they have at regular prices since all my buddies can't get to a Walmart on their way into work as easy as I can.

Well, it doesn't look like ammo prices are going to come down any time soon...

1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security? It's Time For A National Conversation - Forbes

As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month. Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years. In America.

Add to this perplexing outré purchase of ammo, DHS now is showing off its acquisition of heavily armored personnel carriers, repatriated from the Iraqi and Afghani theaters of operation.

Ordered one of these today http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Produ...URG%2DMID%2D16. The panic must be dieing down. They stayed in stock for almost an hr. I still need a bcg and charging handle.

I did have a dpms and model1sales on backorder since late dec. I only ordered the dpms because it was suppose to come in stock in jan, then feb and now may.. Wasn't really looking forward to it. And with the model1, I hadn't heard a peep from them since ordering.

You didn't add the BCG and charging handle? I've got that same upper with the BFH barrel and Bravo BCG. Its a very well built machine.

I've got about $400 worth of parts backordered from DSArms that I may cancel. I called them last week and they had everything in stock from my order except the backordered LPKs. Call them at lunch today to cancel the LPKs and now they have NOTHING from my order in stock. Dammit!

I thought it would be more appropriate to discuss this in the "gun rights" thread since it has more of a political bent to it.

So... let's say I buy a complete Bravo Company upper that has the receiver, barrel, BCG, etc. Can I disassemble it, use those parts with my current stripper upper receiver and then just sell off the Bravo Company stripper upper?

Is that a horrible idea?

Should I just slap the complete BC upper on my Mega lower?

I've received less acclaim that I expected for my budget AR build.

I will buy it from you for $711.25, contingent on shipping and FFL fees. That's a 25% profit to you.

Wait. It's FDE? Don't you live in a swamp (like me)? I like my firearms like I prefer my coffee: dark and pretentious.

At this time I can't justify $270 for the parts. I can tell the wife today I spent $470 and 2-3 weeks later I will spend the $200 or so for those othe parts. She gets sticker shock.

Completely understood. I'm getting married this year so I'm trying to get the last of my toys purchased

Not sure. I've never built (or rebuilt) an upper from parts, but as I understand it, it's the one part of the build that requires a few more specific tools and some care. Swapping BCG, charging handle etc is no problem...I probably wouldn't bother swapping barrels.

Any particular reason you want to keep the Mega stripped upper (apart from matchy-matchy with the lower)? BCM is good stuff, I'd be happy with a complete BCM upper.

I chose FDE so that it will camouflage against my skin better.
