2011 TxMC final results/report @ TWS

What a way to end the season! Rain, cold, wind, 1 semi-dry session to win.

First of all, let me thank everyone that has participated, supported, or even come out to watch Tx Miata Challenge this year. We even had some miata enthusiats take some great photos for us. Thanks Geezer and Pgporto for that and whomever i may be forgetting.

Like i said before, there was rain and more rain, so these times are not representative of how hard we were trying to go fast. lol.. But there were a couple absolutely treacherous corners out there. There must have been something there because i've driven tws in the rain before and never dealt with that before. Turns 4, 6, and 9 were crazy and had many cars sliding off into the mud. Luckily, the rain stopped around 2pm and by our last sessions around 3:30-4:30 we had a nearly dry track with only T7 and 13 having enough water to slow us down a little. Some drivers didn't make it out in the last session and or had timing issues. Unfortunately, Stan W. in his mx5 had traqmate issues and didn't get a dry lap time, only full on downpour laps in the 30's.

And the results:

Unlimited class:

1st place: John Z. (spoolin2bars) 2:00.705 10pts.
2nd: John R. (zx_tex) 2:01.352 8pts.

Modified Class:

1st place: Chris L. (ravenx) 2:28.73 10pts.
dnr: Robert C. (robertcope) x:xx.xx

Street class:

1st place: Jacob G. (jacob300zx) 2:14.695 10pts.
2nd: Bill G. (xxxxx) 2:18.063 8pts.
3rd: Chris K. (xxxxx) 2:19.934 6pts.
4th: Stan W. (xxxxx) 2:3x.xxx 5pts.

Now Sunday was a different story! The sun was out, but it was very cold, low 40's morning, upper 40"s afternoon. Good thing was the track was dry and we could try to feel some g's. Jacob got down to 2:09 in his dad's NA. His dad Bill got down to a 2:12 which is huge considering has ran a 2:30 last april, way to step it up Mr. G! I believe Chris (ravenx) got down to a 2:07 on his first time at TWS. Chris K, please fill us in if i'm wrong, but i think you said you had gotten down to 2:05's before i left on Sunday. John (zx_tex) dropped 1.5sec. off his personal best to a 1:56.2 which is awesome. Somehow i managed to pull off a 1:54.52 in my second and last session. (had to work) Which is crazy consdering it didn't feel much faster than my previous best 1:59 lap a month or so earlier! I Know hoosier R6 are faster than Nt-01's, but not that much. I think part of it was that the nitto's had fallen off a bit by the time my car and my driving were dialed in enough to utilize the grip.

Anywho, if anyone has photo's or vids, please post up. And stay tuned for the 2012 TxMC schedule which i will post soon. 1st place being on FB (Texas Miata Challenge)

I was severely intoxicated this weekend to get it out of my head...I hate missing these events. I'm gearing up for MSR-H in January. Great season, thanks to JZ for running the books and keeping us motivated.

Here's my weekend journal...

Saturday morning in the rain. Yeah, it sucked.

Sunday before lunch - good game of chase with the 711 TTE Miata that was 2nd in points with NASA TX. The first of the 2:08:49's was in this session.

Sunday after lunch - the track had cooled off quite a bit during the lunch break. A 2:08:52 and a 2:08:49 back to back. (I can be dog slow, but consistency makes me happy)

Didn't have a ton of confidence in tire grip (went the wrong way with tire pressures, I think) to carry mid corner speed (everything felt vague and the car needs corner balanced badly after all the recent surgery) and I'm still getting used to the new brake compounds. The added power (Hustler tuned +11hp/+8tq), reduced weight (3360 -> 2182), and a tail wind certainly helped.

Here's the speed trace from data. Need bigger cajones to cross the transition at 110+ and to run flat through 7 and 12, and I keep getting crossed up at 6 and throwing away the back straight.

Mid 2:05's would be cake if I wasn't a pussy. But I am.
