2011 TxMC round 1 recap/results

Well it was a fun weekend at msr-houston. The weather stayed dry till sunday, great for challenge participants, not so fun for the tt guys unless they were in fwd cars. (which raped the faster cars on sunday)
Unfortunately, we had a poor turnout for round 1. I would think it would be better for all the austin, s.a., houston peeps, but if not, we might just leave this track off the second half of the schedule. There were also a few miata guys that were just not interested, or possibly scared?, or don't like to share experience with other miata brethren. Whatever the case may be thanks to those that showed up to play. We did have a new entry in street class, and what do you know, he won! Congrats matt, hope to see you again.
Trey (hustler) was a little worried after seeing his lap times for the first session, but there was nothing wrong considering it was his first time in that direction, and only 2nd time at msr-h ever, and sure enough his times dropped alot in the later sessions. However, Carter white (doghouse) was back and this time with a turbo on his well prepped nb. The battle was on in unlimited as Trey and Carter's times dropped each session until the final session where Carter ran his fastest lap, and Trey did not. No modified class cars ran, but in street it was all about the new guy Matt ( ). He ran quick and consistant times all day, with Jake ( ) and his dad Bill taking 2nd and 3rd respectively both driving Bill's street class car. As far as msr-h cw, it was really fun. I was able to check it out thanks to Jake. we both drove his S2k which for being nearly stock ran really good laptimes. (i always knew S2k's were awesome, but it isn't until you drive one that you really appreciate the engineering that went into it. The big lump at the end of the back straight known as "the launch" wasn't nearly as scary as it sounded in this direction. Also turn 1, despite eating 5 race cars for lunch on friday's practice, wasn't really that bad at all. It was the forever long carousel before it that made it hard to judge the apex of turn 1. It was turn 6, hi-speed kink before diamonds edge that took some cajones, althought it wasn't as important to go all out since it precedes 2 very tight turns.
anywho, on to the results.

unlimited class:

1st place: carter w. (doghouse) 1:50.7 10pts.
2nd: trey r. (hustler) 1:51.267 8pts.

street class:
1st place: matt b. (never satisfied) 1:56.2 10pts
2nd: jake g. (jacob300zx) 2:01.868 8pts.
3rd: bill g. (????) 2:04.532 6pts.

btw, i had the 2010 TxMC champion trophies with me to hand out, Unfortunately, none of the winners made this event. Hopefully they will be at the next event @ msr-cresson.

Had fun. I know all you TMC folks are on this board, where the hell were you?

This track is a lot of fun CW and pretty tame if you over-step. Each corner has character which I can't say for every track I've driven. The carousel is great, there is sooooo much grip in this car. I was giggleing while realing in expensive stuff in the top of 4th through that corner. Actually, considering all corners, I noticed that my ability to hang tight with that Exige really demonstrated his mental advantage over mine...I have the car when I cheat and chase him, I need the knowledge now too. It became clear in that session that I can run a 1:46 in this car...that's 5-seconds of homework for me.

I have a little work to do on my car to get it "right" on the suspension side so don't get complacent. I'm hungry this season to work on my driving and cut the times down. I had a damn good time with the South Texas crew while sippin on potion and grilling with a license plate...where is Cali crew with this? Oh that's right, in their hotels. lol

I don't know Carter and never spoke to him but he looked pretty damn manly in the comp school group.

Anyone in TX not hanging out with us is missing out on a damn good time...we're also all getting faster as a group, I was really impressed with Jake ad JZ, they are "hauling the males" in that stock S2K. I think that even if none of you Texas guys show up, the 4 of us are going to keep doing this and keep having fun.

There are three NASA events at Mid Ohio plus the Nationals...sounds like you texas guys need to road trip so I can get in on the fun. Plus I'd love to run against you in the FailWD power-understeering TTB luxo-slut.

It's only an 18 hour tow...don't be pussies.

jacob300zx 02-01-2011 01:05 PM

Back at you.

What are you using for data acquisition? If nothing else, I think something like a $500 Pbox might be a worthwhile investment (especially if paired with a Contour HD).

hustler 02-01-2011 03:41 PM

I'm using nothing, and don't plan on buying anything until I get an Android phone and buy trackmaster.

My wife's due April 1st so I don't think I'm allowed to do any racing a few weeks before or after...

When are the other Texas events? The chance of me actually towing a 40ft trailer all the way to Texas is pretty miniscule, but hey, you never know. My schedule is already too full with SCCA Nationals, NASA, and crewing for Grand AM.

Scrappy Jack 02-01-2011 06:15 PM

Really? Are any of the TXMC guys running DAQ?

At work. Started a new job last month. Sweet gig that got me out of retirement, but cuts into trackdaze.

Is Doghouse running ZxTex's old turbo setup? Why was he running comp school? Going to w2w?

I didn't make msr-h last year either. Jan weather is too unpredictable for that long of a tow and I hate cold and rain..

I'll try and make the next one.

Pitlab77 02-01-2011 06:22 PM

I was there as the cheerleading section.

johnwag 02-01-2011 06:35 PM

I really wanted to be there. I like that track and want to get more seat time out there.
I spent last saturday working my ass off at the metal recycler, sorting metal, to get about $400 less than I was supposed to.
AST's went on my miata 2 weekends ago, so expect to see me at MSR-C in my car.

jacob300zx 02-01-2011 08:05 PM

Texas is DA fail, next on my list though.

tann3r 02-01-2011 08:30 PM

spoolin2bars 02-02-2011 05:24 AM

Both class winners last weekend run traqmate. Hmm, I'm starting to see a pattern here. Lol.....

hustler 02-02-2011 09:11 AM

$t$r$a$q$m$a$t$e$

I'd use it if I had it, but I want to wait for an Android phone.

tann3r 02-02-2011 10:12 AM

I picked my traqmate up off ebay for cheap about 4 years ago. $500 for the traqmate complete w/ the aux data inputs. they are out there, just gotta find them.

I think I saw one for sale on a vette forum when i was looking for ls parts last week.
