Charlotte, NC area - Where 2 Race?

Hey guys, just attended my first autocross less than a month ago at Zmax and I had a blast. I'll follow the the CCRSCCA around, but that's not enough - one race a month.

Just wondering if there are any locals in the Charlotte area that know of any light track days. Im a beginner and will be on street tires, etc. and just really want to get out on a track.

Thanks!

Carolina motorsports park in Kershaw is the closest. Check out their website for a list of DE dates. http://www.carolinamotorsportspark.com/

Hey Dustin! Have you been looking at just the autocross schedule, or have you looked at the hillclimb/TT/PDX schedule? Take a look here: SEDIV Time Trial Program

If you'd like to get involved in the Time Trials program, they have a Novice license program which is very easy to work with. It lets you run approved hill climbs and TT events without a full blown competition license, and all you need to do is pay a small fee, fill out some basic medical info, and send it in. You have two full years to make your three events and "upgrade". For the most part, all you need is a bolt in roll bar, fire suit, helmet (I think SA2005 or newer), hand held extinguisher, and a harness to be legal for one of the classes.

Just as a heads up, its possible they may add a couple more events to the schedule towards the end of the year, and I think they are restricting Road Atlanta to full comp licenses unless you have significant experience for insurance reasons. I won't have the car ready for RA, but am hoping to make the first Dragon Hillclimb of the year.

I-485 seems to work for a lot of people.

There used to be autoX at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, not sure if they still do.

THSCC has a DE at CMP on June 15&16. I'm signed up and I think Track is going to try to make it, too.

Props for the laugh. Knights is no longer an autox site due to the potholes the size of our cars that have formed there. Closest track to us is CMP, followed by either vir or Road Atlanta depending on where in Charlotte you are. I believe they are both pretty much the same distance from Davidson. I would honestly get a few events under your belt before thinking about getting on a track. Car control is a good thing to have some experience with.

also check Auto-X.com - Home of the Triad Sports Car Club /triad for autox events.

I don't autoX but went to a few to watch at Knights. Been a while. I've done some tame track time in the car at both CMP and VIR, would much rather go to VIR. CMP gets boring due to lack of elevation changes. I don't live in Charlotte, but am forced to drive through it occasionally. My impression of CLT driving is to hang tires around the car like a tugboat, and keep a loaded firearm at all times.

I hope that over 40 years of driving had taught me a fair measure of car control, along with several years of motorcycle endurance roadracing in my younger, wilder past.
