"Gymkhana is a gymnastic test of your driving skills and your car's
abilities. It's not so much about speed--imagine stunt driver (you)
meets daily driver (your car) in a series of challenging events
requiring quick thinking, lots of sudden, simultaneous control inputs
and a cool-headed command of situational awareness.
From a standing start to test your best launch through a carve versus
slide 180, down to an either or, inside or outside line snap decision,
through a 360 degree pivot, then an optional slalom followed by a
high-speed lane change and a blind, random asteroid field of
mini-cones. Don't hit those, but a must-topple, late apex murder cone
follows, and a downhill, limited adhesion garage parking maneuver
requires a full stop, then select reverse and back uphill 100 yards
through a coned gate, stop, relaunch, around a gate, miss the garage
and take your checkered flag.
Sound easy? Think again. Fun and challenging is the name of the game
and by the last run of the day, you and your car will have a closer
personal relationship. Guaranteed.
Cost is $40 for members and $50 for non-members.

I wonder is going to this would count as our Valentine's Day date...

Whoever wrote that is fail and aids...its like reading Nigerian email spam.

gospeed81 02-06-2010 11:59 AM

lol

I'd do it because you'd probably get more seat time, on a better track, than an autocross, depending on how many "runs" they are doing.

lets see
we were our own nation check
we can legally fly our flag as high as the US flag check
we are our own power grid Check
we have our own educational endowment set up by the state when it was a republic (:fawk: DOE)
we could top 10 in the world as an economic power as a country.

:giggle:

The track owners.

I registered for it two days ago.

This is for the two people going-
----------------------------------------
Be here at 8:00am or so. Gates will probably open *just* before then, so I wouldn't hurry to get here early.

Drivers' meeting is at 8:30am.

The event runs from 9am-1pm. If we fill up (which I doubt), we'll get six runs each. If it's less than full, it'll probably be more.

No lunch break since it ends at 1pm. Bring a lunch, or a snack if you don't wanna wait for lunch.

Passengers are welcome as long as they're over 18, sign the waiver, and wear a helmet.

And yup, it's rain or shine. Depending on how much rain we get tonight and tomorrow, it'll either be sunny and dry on Saturday, or their may be just a couple of places with some water.

Luckily for this event, water hazards make it just as fun. :)

Someone, please take some videos.

From what I have seen on Youtube, the cars will take more of a beating than the typical autox.

This one looks like fun: (watch the end!)

gospeed81 02-10-2010 08:05 PM

holy shit that was rad!

dvcn 02-10-2010 09:27 PM

Everyone has probably seen these already but here are a couple. H2R will definitely not be like this.

I'll have an in car camera but I'm expecting to suck so bad that I won't post them.

I can't explain just how fun this event was. It will take a major disaster for me to miss another one. The in car video does no justice!

Course description from a friend who runs a GRM 4cy turbo Dodge Aries with 350ftlbs tq:
Heres a basic rundown of what we did:
Backwards down pit lane,
180 at the bottom onto the front straight,
first turn was divided by a line of cones which broke up the racing line and made you go slow on the outside, slow on the inside, or try to cut through the line of cones somewhere,
a pivot cone in the middle of a lake in the middle of a turn (you have to do a complete turn around it before you keep going, and there was water flowing across the track),
a normal high speed turn right after another water crossing,
a slalom,
an emergency lane change maneuver,
another river on the track, then a turn,
a field of cones you had to go through without touching any,
an apex cone that you HAD to hit or get a penalty,
2 gates to jink through and then come to a complete stop in a cone box
reverse out of the cone box all the way back through the first gate,
go forward AROUND the gate you reversed through, and haul --- down the finish line, which was also marked by water on the track.

The cold and water are really what made it scary

Sorry, a lot of this was posted in another thread but I just wanted to do some promo for the next time they do this.

I'm on 195/60-14 400 treadwear all season tires. Boost is turned down and on ebc to give a slow linear(ish) boost rise.

The launch video to go with ^ picture. Had to let off the line lock when I couldn't see the track anymore. The track owner gave me style points!

Last full run. Yes, that is over 7k rpms in reverse!:
