Miata Challenge Round 4: Infineon Raceway (3/27/2010)

If you are wondering about what happened to Round 3a/3b at El Toro, the news from Speed Ventures is that the event’s cancelled due to double-booking at the site. It’s unfortunate and it’s something that MC was looking forward to hosting an auto-x and an epic special road course event. Because of this, Round 4 at Infineon will be the next round for MC.

If you haven’t been to Infineon, seriously, you missing out on what many track-junkies are calling the best road course in the west coast!

Per usual, Speed Ventures credits on rewarded to the podium finishers of each class.
  • 1st: $30
  • 2nd: $20
  • 3rd: $10

And remember, you guys are starting this year fighting for the season grand prizes, as per the 2009 season finale.
  • 1st: $200 SV credit AND 1 set of 949Racing 6UL wheels (Gen 2)
  • 2nd: $100 SV credit AND choice of either a $200 949Racing voucher towards $1000+ purchase or $100 gift certificate

Current Standings: As of Round 2

Round 2 Summary:

Despite threat of rain to slow the speeds down at the “Fastest Road in the West,” it was an oasis of sunlight and cool and dry weather for Round 2 at WSIR. This sets the stage for fast laps to be recorded and new benchmarks to be set for all MC classes.

A total of 11 entrants entered for this round, 5 of them in Modified class. This seems like this class is fairly popular this year for competition, with Round 1 at Buttonwillow showing a proportionate amount of entries. Showing he is making a statement for this year’s bid for the Modified class season win, Christopher Huang repeated his performance from Round 1 with a win at WSIR, again beating out Brian Wood. But that may change as Brian is hinting that his new monster Modified class car is finally ready to make its debut by the next round.

Also noteworthy, this is the first time the fastest 4 drivers in the 2009 Unlimited class met together the same round to do battle since Round 2 at SoW in January 2009. With that said, Andrew Kidd recorded a blazing lap time of 1:29.108, a new benchmark for a fast Unlimited class car. Despite this, MC organizer Emilio Cervantes did a non-competition lap in William Chen’s car and recorded an even faster lap time of 1:29.026; that’s a new full-bodied Miata record! That’s a bit short of the all-time Miata record at WSIR, set by an EP Miata.

Meanwhile in street class, it was not a big showing for Street class, as only 2 entries showed to do battle. However, the big surprise is that Leonard Patterson made his debut to Street class with same the car that won him the Modified class season win in 2009. This time, Leonard’s car was detuned feasibly to 2010 Street class rules. Battling Leonard was Derek Dicker, who was looking to take advantage of the low turnout and to get much needed points to leap ahead in Street class season standings. The battle ended in favor of Derek, which he credited his win for his familiarity with WSIR.

So who is going to be there? I will but I registered late and have to run in a slow group until a spot opens up in the red or green groups.

I think ill be coming up for the day to hang out, i recently had an ACL reconstructive surgery so i wont be able to drive. I know that Savington, Orion (white turbo na w/ splitter & wing) will both be there. I can only assume the regulars will be as well.

They both give me the same rush, only boarding is a full day. Driving is only 20 min session 4-5 times a day 4-5 months out of the year.
