my opinion of new Atlanta Motorsports Park - Dawsonville, GA
Attended/participated in the Tracks Unlimited HPDE at the new Atlanta Motorsports Park, Dawsonville, GA
My impression [yours may be different] 16 defined turns over a 2 mile track with great vertical undulation make for a very technical course, a true miata course turn 1 - hard 90* left while falling off the main straight, bottom after apex turn 2 & 3 gentle left/right while climbing turn 4 - long decreasing radius 180 left hander starting just before cresting the hill and continuing OFF Camber down hill into turn 5 and 6 turn 5 - nothing remarkable turn 6 - 90* right climbing up hill again turn 7 - 8 - 9 uphill left right left - blind apex turn 10 - hard left, down hill turn 11 - at bottom of hill, hard right, sharply up hill turn 12 - at crest, blind apex, start of another longer decreasing radius left hander, while off camber [say what side is the 1.8's oil pickup?] turn 13 - 14 - 15 all part of the sweeper turn 16 gentle right onto the very short straight [best I could do is rev-limit in 4th at braking point for turn 1 - straight is intimidating with a cut embankment on the right, the side with the line] did I say a very tight, challenging, technical course a very fun course [until I lost oil pressure and had to quit for the day] |
Sounds great. I'll be there this Friday with Hooked on Driving.
|
I'll be there next month. Looks like a fun place.
|
I think I want to run Barber before I run AMP....before I leave the east coast.
|
Yes, you need too!
Last month I was planning on instructing with HOD, but when the engine croaked, I wiped off the rest of the year to resurrecting the track car - since it ain't gonna be cheap. Looks fun, tight like Barber - gives us miatas in TT a chance to shine. |
So we need to plan a late fall MT.net meet there?

Lars. October 20-21 Nasa will be there.
This is perfect for two reasons, One: its late fall, Two: its my b-day, bitch! Edit to ask, Do you have any footage? Ive seen some, but none of it all at speed. It would be pretty neat to see all of it in a miata. |
Need to get a bunch of miatas for the DE event at Barber in August.
OP: What psi were you running for your dyno numbers? I'm about to swap my china 2870 to a 2860RS. Is that the .86 housing? |
I'm there for both... 1.8 hyper-drive turbonator rebuild in full tilt bitches.. ;)
From one of the regulars: |
I was at AMP this past Friday the 18th. The track is a blast in a miata! While I was there I had to test the run off area in turn 1

http://vimeo.com/42521211 these videos do not do the elevation change justice - this course is 2 miles of the dragon without the hardly-ablesons, sem's, or opposing traffic |
That sure is a lot of armco. Like Watkins Glen levels of armco.
