NOVA: Anyone do carpets?

Looking for a hookup on getting my carpets replaced. Anyone know anyone who knows anyone?

SKMetalworks 08-09-2009 07:22 PM

I know a guy who knows a guy who went to ebay... ;)

neogenesis2004 08-09-2009 07:28 PM

Are you talking about your house or your miata?

y8s 08-09-2009 08:31 PM

we're ready to rip our upstairs carpets out and hoping to find hardwood underneath. want em?

Mach929 08-09-2009 09:35 PM

i have a guy but you're too far. I haven't done it yet but he says it's easy, use the knee kicker tool and start in the back corner of the room

SKMetalworks 08-09-2009 09:41 PM

oops. For some reason i thought it was for his miata...:noob:

Braineack 08-10-2009 12:02 AM

Hardwood ftw scott, just get some throw rugs.

hardwood and a roomba is the shit. it's so much easier to get rid of cat hair when it coalesces into cat-size clumps and walks itself to the garbage can.

Cat hair and pubes. Not what I was hoping to see while I ate my muffin.

I'm acutally surprised about how much hair my Dyson can lift up. At least 1000x more dirt/hair than my Eureka I had prior.

I just don't like hardwood: I don't like rugs, I don't like putting felt under all my furniture, I don't like walking in slippers cause the floor feels shitty, I don't like laying on hard surfaces if I ever choose to lay on the ground, and I don't like the uncomfortable/formal/non-cosy feeling of hardwood.

of all ppl, i thought u would love hard wood the most...

Braineack 08-10-2009 10:44 AM

I know right...odd, huh?

y8s 08-10-2009 10:50 AM

the roomba takes care of the shitty feel part. no gritty shit on there.

yeah the dyson is a miracle worker on cat hair. until I used the mini turbine head on the stairs and so much cat hair clogged the suck hole that the brush was overspeeding itself.

y8s 08-10-2009 10:50 AM

oh plus cats love to slide.

It's not what you'd call a "hookup" but the shop that did our upstairs last year was very good and reasonably priced. It was the Carpet Yard on Merrilee Dr in Fairfax, which is right next to the Home Despot.

Tip: Continuous filament carpet is worth a few extra bucks. It pretty much eliminates the shedding of fibers and the clogging of vacuums that you typically get with new carpet.

That Dyson guy seems like a douche in the TV commercials, but damn if he doesn't build a great vacuum. We got the heavy-duty pet version and it handles all that our german shepherd is capable of shedding (quite a lot).

I'm just looking to get it done for under 2K (about 750 sq ft of it). We are going to try to get the condo on the market next spring and I'm starting to take care of the last few projects we need to tackle.

y8s 08-10-2009 12:00 PM

orly?

find any little cottages with garattages?

Braineack 08-10-2009 12:03 PM

a few townhomes in the tyson area would be cool, but that area kinda stinks. I'm hoping we can find something north of us past 29 off great falls or something like that, towards mclean. or possibly in the Vienna area.
