yeah, i know. but noone has actually done that at the track so far. and even if they did, wether we're talkin' about a hundreth or a few thousandths of a sec., the transponder wins.

I won't be using an amb until I decide to run NASA TT again. In fact I believe your buying mine spoolin. That said we shouldn't restrict prople to one device. If it has a date and lap time...yahtzee! I'll be going with a traqmate later in the year.

I'm kinda on the fence over tranponders only. Do all tracks have he capability to support them? If so, them I'm in for the goup buy. My timing hassles were a pain at this event (Was in line Sat at 6:30a and none avail). Spooling loaned me his repeatedly, but no joy. ZX-Tex hooked me up with his I phone/gps thingamabob after we verified it against his transponder. Rounding to just a tenth not optimal.

I'm leaning tward the RLC unit for it's easy to read predictive timing (although I learned at this event the Tracqmate does this as well).

I'll bite the bullet and get a gps system and a transponder. Kinda leaning toward the hard wired transponder, cause I had issues with the charged ones dying before this event too.

Quick web search shows it appears they are somewhat cost controlled like Hans device. This seems to be the best deal (one penny cheaper than I/O Port, but with free shipping).

sorry you didn't get any stickers. it was pretty hectic saturday. i'll get some to you. i can mail them or if your gonna be at tws i'll give them to you there.

i don't have anything against traqmate or any gps lap timer. i just don't want any hurt feelings over a guy with a transponder or gps that reads to the thousandth's of a sec. winning over someone with one that reads to the tenths. if i would have gotten a lap time on my third session sat. there might have been 4 of us in the 1:27 range. i got a 1:27.368 on sunday on my one traffic free lap.

I knew those hard RA1s would slow me down, but I didn't expect to see that significant of a difference. Doesn't help that there are really good drivers in the Mod class......and then there is me. I attribute 4 seconds to the tires/complete lack of alignment and the rest to lack of expirience. Either way, I love being out there with you guys.

I'm wondering if I should put my last 2 points into a wing/splitter or pull my NT01's off my 9's and put them on my 8's. Any opinions?

I'll get off my butt and get what few pics I got that day. Track seemed slow for the conditions. Amazing what a bit of wind did to keep temps down on the surface. Glad to have finally met a few of you peeps! Cheers.

You don't need the wing/splitter to go full out through 1 at TWS and the rest of the tracks are so technical that I think mechanical grip is going to outperform aero grip. Maybe turn 8 at H2r might see a benefit, and maybe big bend at Cresson might, but aside from those turns I think you're looking at lower speeds where more tire will help.

So I highly encourage you to stay on street tires and go with the wing/splitter

Well there is an event at TWS Apr 2-3, I may have to go and test, but I am thinking you are correct.

My 'to do ' list is getting long and i'm working/living 4 hrs away from my car.

You really dont have to worry about me in the mod championship, I do not think i will be able to make as many events as you, but i'm going to try to make as many as i can. I hope this takes off so we can do it again next year!

On the AMB transponder I do not think the RC ones will work though it has been awhile since I researched it. A lot of people in the CMRA (where I raced before) would like to see a cheaper alternative. There are hundreds of bikes at each event and an AMB is required on all of them. Plus bike racers are mostly a bunch of cheap bastards that would jump on a cheaper alternative. The CMRA rents them out and generally has their **** together on having plenty of them available and charged at each event.

If you think $375 is painful you should try losing one out on the track sometime, like me. That was painful. It was at MSRC as a matter of fact. I searched the track for an hour on a scooter and never found it.

All that being said, I did find these guys. They clone the AMB RC transponders and sell them cheap. I sent them an e-mail asking about cloning the larger transponders. No reply yet.

Everyone here should send them an e-mail. If they get enough requests then maybe they will be more motivated.

From what I have seen there are AMB systems, or at least the loop in the track, at all of the CMRA tracks: MSRC, MSRH, Hallett, Oak Hill, and Eagle's Canyon. That being said, the racing organization typically has to provide their own receiver. On weekends when the CMRA is not there, like a track day, there is no AMB timing available. In that case most people use IR beacon based lap timers.

RANT:
I want to know why no one has fielded an RFID tag based race timing system yet. I think they are still in the experimental stage. Passive RFID tags are so cheap that they are disposable, and they weigh nothing. Hell they could hand them out for free at registration and log the ID# right there. I do not know whether or not they are fast/powerful enough to work for moto racing timing. Any RFID experts here?

Sorry if this is a thread jack. These guys already have a tested RFID system in place. They outfitted an entire field of motorcycle road race entrants with RFID tags for $40 TOTAL.

I contacted Zoomius about getting a demo for the TWS race. I will let you know what I find out.

H2R is using RFID? Excellent. Do you know whose system (which brand) it is?

The transponders are basically free so the big question is what the rest of the system costs. That will probably not be cheap.
