How about instead of locking it up, I just kick the asses of everyone who attempts to derail the thread? Seriously, stay on topic or I'll hold you down while my GF urinates on you.

The competition with other cars was fierce, some of those Vettes were fast.

HA! Good thing he/she/it was using the whole track because they might have run off otherwise.

Speaking of LSx motors, after reviewing the video it turns out I was not hitting the rev limiter on the front straight. I was hitting the SPEED limiter. Apparently the stock ecu for this motor came with a 160 mph speed limiter. If I correct for tire size it amounts to about 140 which is about what my speed was at the end of the front straight. That also explains why the limiter sounded different on the front straight than the rev limiter I was hitting on the back straight; the speed limiter cut out cycle time was slower on the front straight. Looks like I need to reflash this ECU before returning to TWS because when I take off my panties coming out of turn 1 I'll definitely be hitting that speed limiter sooner.

Also I found the short that took out the main bus fuse. It was an errant ground strap, now fixed. Thanks again for the push onto the trailer.

I still could not find any signs of the fire Quan saw, but there was lots of shredded rubber aka clag on the inside of the wheels. I'll bet a piece fell off onto the screaming hot rotor when I pitted.

My front brakes are freaking wasted. Grooved rotors on both sides and about 2mm of pad material left.

Lol@ speed limitter; I started to appreciate the front stretch after I started manning up in 1...what's 6400rpm in 6th w/te 3.63?

I saw the rubber bits burning in the wheel too, which is no big deal, but you need to get real brakes on that car. I'm getting 6-days on my DTC-60's with the trackspeed kit with <350*f caliper temps and those pads are $60 per set. Colin really helped me a lot with manning-up; his car is crazy in #1.

None of us have manned up, sure NASA national winners regularly run 2:02's but the spec miata lap record is 1:59.xx thanks to Jason Saini. According to Cali standards we should be running 1:49's. I'd be happy in the 1:55-1:56 range with my 200whp, sub $800 coilovers, and eBay wing.

I can see Saini running a 1:59 ccw with th moon, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn aligned over China, but not cw. Well, I pray to Mephistopheles that SM's carry carry 1:59 "worth" of speed through 1, i hope there's not enough track to hold that much time going cw through 10. I guess that's why he get's paid to drive and why I get paid to shuffle papers around my desk.

Yeah, I would like to see a miata break a 1:55 but idk if its possible. John did a 1:58 in Jeff's car with 240whp, 2100lbs, 225 NT01's, and AST's...1:55 idk, let alone a 1:49

jake you mean one of us right? i'm pretty sure emilio or sav. or matt andrews could easily bust 155.xx especially at tws with a 300-360whp 1900lb car with proper aero and a pro driver. (or as in e's case, "pro-killer") i imagine they could run 1:51-52's since i saw steve medina run 1:52's in his 250whp e36 gts race car. he had 245 hoosiers, but gives up alot of hp to the cali. crew.

Yeah there is definitely more seconds to be dropped. The car can do it, at least once the brakes get fixed and I get it dialed in. Hell everyone's cars can. The hardware is all there so the main thing holding it back is the software (drivers).

But that is why we all do this. My next goal is to break into the 1:50s. A 1:55 would be pretty sick. The car can do it. Question is can I?

A NASA instructor friend of mine was running in the low 1:50s IIRC in a kit Cobra with aero, a strong motor, and big Hoosiers. I am waiting for a certain very nicely built V8 Miata to set what should be a good benchmark, at least for me. He has been to TWS but is not giving up his times yet.
L33 (5.3L) 320 HP
T-5 trans (lighter than a T-56)
Full aero
Body kit
275 slicks on 10" wheels
Lightweight, stripped to the core.

I think there is a ton of time at this track with aero judging from how much faster Colin ran than me through 10, 9, 6, 5, 2, and 1. I think 4 seconds is doable in my car with a little wallet and a healthy dose of skill.

That float on the front straight and lack of braking going into 15 would be unnerving. You need a Lowe's Racing splitter like mine.

lol, I was more comfortable with that MPH as the day progress but had to point the car after the start/finish because I could not steer the car well after that point.

well it was a beautiful day friday with mostly sunny skies and 70 deg. temps. couldn't ask for better weather for the final installment of the Tx. Miata Challenge.

even though many had not driven TWS clockwise or in any direction in some cases, everyone picked it up quick as times dropped quickly all day.
it was nice running the open trackday format also. no run groups, no sessions, just get out there and run whenever your ready for as long as you want. seemed like there was plenty of time to relax and talk about lines, setup, etc.. between track time. also had a nice turnout similar to the start of the season which was much appreciated. john r. (zxtex) made a triumphant return with his ls1 miata with aero. it sounded awesome wide open down the front straight of the old super speedway. trey (hustler) finally made it to tws. i had been telling him how his car would love the track. colin (tanner) finally made it to tws when TxMC was there. he spent most of his time instructing everybody with little or no experience there the proper lines and tips to get everybody up to speed. he's a total class act and had much to do with everybody's enjoyment of the trackday. at the end of the day he managed to get a session in and got going fast enough in a few laps to win modified class over james' (geezer) already fast lap time. speaking of geezer, glad he made it out but like tanner, his fast times came after only a handful of laps due to a corded tire. i'm sure these guys with some more time could have dropped a sub 2:00 min. lap. jeff (jeff_man) also made it out in his new "older" supercharged nb. while he was still getting aquainted with the track, john (johnwag) behind the wheel of his beast put down the fastest lap of day, a smokin' 1:58.xx john was another selfless helper, spending so much of his time helping others he never got a lap in for his modified class. not that he needed it as he had the modified championship locked up a couple events ago. unfortunately i still haven't found a replacement ecu, but jake let me co-drive his new s2k. it was awesome on the track for being stock except for 17x9's with rs3's and a set of megan springs. we managed to run some 2:02-03 laps. not too shabby for it's first track outing.
anyways, thanks to everyone for making it out, hope to see you in jan. at msr-houston! here's the resluts for round 7:

street class:

1st quan p. (nceunos) 2:10.09 10pts.
2nd bill g. (xxxxx) 2:23.88

modified class:

1st colin t. (tann3r) 2:00.3 10pts.
2nd james l. (geezer) 2:00.8 8pts.
3rd dave h. (miata racer) 2:02.00 6pts.
4th jacob g. (jacob300zx) 2:12.42 5pts.
5th john w. (johnwag) dnr
these guys didn't sign up, i wasn't able to catch them in the paddock, but we got a lap time for them in case they entered. they are from a tx. forum (trackjunies.org) i believe they would have modified points.
6th dave (joop) 2:08.18
7th ????? (phm14) 2:10.59

unlimited class

1st trey r. (hustler) 2:00.2 10pts.
2nd john r (zx-tex) 2:01.3 8pts.
3rd steve p. (double O 86) 2:02.8 6pts.
4th john z. (spoolin2bars) 2:13.6 5pts.
5th jeff p. (jeff_man) dnf

fastest lap: johnwag/jeffman's s/c '99 1:58.14

That car was at HHR yesterday. Again, "we" still have not seen a V8 Miata that impressed on the track.

lol, at that 2:12 in my Dads street car. I took 4 laps right off the bat just to set a baseline for my Dad and talk gears/corners/flatout. I tried to go back out at the end of the day to set a better time but they coned it off as I was roling out to the hot pit. Coneblocked...oh well I wouldn't have beaten Dave with that 2:02 anyways. I think I could have done a 2:08 in that car. Also lol at Spoolin running it in Unl class. Is there year end bonus points for Tony Hawk moves? I know Jeff 50/50 grinded some curbing then ollied over the track, I nose grinded 11, and Hustler and ZX-tex had some killer half pipe drop ins.
