The worst part about that drive is NOT being able to watch the scenery while you are driving, because you are trying to watch out for all the other jackass drivers who ARE watching the scenery while driving.

Highway 1 has the potential to be a lot more than "an extra hour" depending on conditions.

We can play it by ear.

Were going to glass beach, and then we can look at traffic and decide from there.

Having followed a Tundra doing 20 under the posted limit for hours on 1 before having a chance to get by (and then only breaking a bunch of traffic laws to get past a line of traffic), I'd give yourself lots of extra time.

Also, it's a 1 lane road, looking at traffic doesn't tell you the whole story. All it takes is one guy pulling out of a diner along the highway and then never using pullouts to toss a wrench in the works.

That said, just leave early. It's one of the most epic roads out there, whether you want to go fast or just see beautiful seasides for hours. CA1 was an influencing factor in moving here.

If you're not already burnt out by the time you get to San Francisco, this is a good twisty mountain road way to get to Laguna Seca. I take the Exocet up here at least once or twice a month for fun.

Hwy 35 to Hwy 9 - Google maps

I may have group C1/C and group B hot laps available, shortly. Figure I'll give my fellow trubo kitty lovers first dibs before I release them.

With any luck I'll get a seat on the Lear so I don't have to fly commercial with the peasant rabble.

Seat on the jet means 55 minutes wheels up/wheels down from AZ to CA. Commercial means 6-7 hours worth of flights/layovers/TSA security theater, etc.

I'm really hoping to NOT have to fly commercial on the 2nd.

Well, even without a Miata, I'm still making an appearance. Well, that's not entirely correct; I'll be co-driving mini-me with Mike H. If anyone wants to stop by, Mike and I will have an RV for the event, probably @ space 36 (looking over turn 5) and we'll be BBQ'ing Friday night. Come by, throw some meat on the fire and hang out.
