Ehh, I think Andrew hit the nail on the head, his dinner recommendations hit right between Aidan's Taco Bell request and your Tarpy's

Rosine's is one of my moms favorites. Their menu is diverse enough that there is usually something for everyone. Quality, portions and prices are all decent. The fat kid in my is always tempted by their ridiculous desert options.

Alvarado Street Brewery is tasty. Beers are good and prices are not completely out of line with Monterey (sorry Aidan) but their menu suffers from various hipsterish things like a $11 poutine appetizer, sriracha mayo and duck fat fries.

Turn12 Bar and Grill is cheaper, but its definitely more of a bar with a decent kitchen. Burgers, Pizza and italianish kinda things. I've never been but I believe @kotomile recommended it last year? Maybe I'll try to head over and see how busy it is.

If you are manly enough to drive into Salinas, Elli's is right on the edge of town on Highway 68. Seating is sometimes complicated but they have an outdoor area that is usually only in use for lunch and early evening, and then only when the weather is nice. We might be able to convince them to let us sit out there and turn on the heaters if we have a large enough group for dinner. Their bar is my go-to for hockey games. Nothing is incredibly stand out but everything is done well. Good drinks, good food, good prices. The same family owns the LallaGrill over by Del Montie Center in Monterey.

Closer to Old Town Salinas is Monterey Coast Brewing. They have seating but the beer is meh and not everything on the menu is good.

As for breakfast, Black Bear in Monterey is probably the best option all things considered. They were able to seat all of us and didn't throw us out when we started making gay jokes

Most of these places have websites where you can view menus and such

I'm fine with Salinas. I'll be staying at the track anyways.

Have you guys tried Taco bells latest crunchy beef burritos? The fritos are boss.

Kind of kidding, But I do this trip on a budget, and if its just me without hailey I will be trying to spend even less money. Probably should go to salinas for gas anyways so I don't have to fill up at the track.

No Taco Bell unless the track has really good bathrooms.

If I'm going to be emptying my intestines, I'm not doing it in a porter-potty.

Some of us are used to eating semi-healthy, and don't enjoy diarrhea from eating processed fat.

They have good bathrooms.

I've gotten used to the diarrhea.

Filling up at the track is straight up murder. I'm tuned for CA91 but I usually spit a tank between CA91 and 100 or 110 at the track. I think I paid $9/g last year at MRLS?

Going toward Monterey the first fuel on 68 is at the 7-11 (Citgo maybe?) in the shopping center where 218 and 68 come together. They turn over a lot of CA91 a this station. On the Salinas side, you can get gas at the 7-11 in Toro Park or there is a Shell on the corner of Blanco and South Main/68 (this is where I generally buy fuel) or for cheaper gas there is a Rotten Robbie further down on South Main. There are a couple other little stations on 68 but their prices are out of whack and I don't know what their turnover is on 91. I just suck it up and get gas at the Shell.

I offered to make beer last year so we could sit around at Aidan's campsite and freeze our nuts off but no one seemed interested.

I believe our company is a corporate sponsor so we should have passes somewhere, I'll ask around and see what I can find out.

Kewl. Did not do enough fun things last year on the trip. So I'm gonna have to work even harder to get her to come to this one.

From what I understand, dropping acid and visiting the "Planet of the Jellies" exhibit is hard to beat.

G, all of the places you recommended sound great, and I am up to go to Salinas for good food. You pick the venue, and we'll be there!

100 octane is $9/gallon at the track (same price as in Saratoga). IIRC, 91 was like $6.50/gallon last year. Driving 24 miles round-trip (figure 45 minutes) to save $20 doesn't seem like a great idea to me, especially since you'll burn one of those gallons getting there/back, but then I'm running my car on straight 100 so I don't have much choice.

I'd prefer to avoid outdoor seating in October. I don't care about Salinas vs Monterey, so long as we don't get shot and there's enough room for me to park my big-*** truck there.

Taco Bell is not food.

Laguna has one set of real bathrooms in the pit garage complex that are usually open.

I'll probably be bringing a 5 gallon can. Which should be enough to fill me up for the day. Plan would be run a tank+can on saturday. Then get gas for the trip home somewhere besides the track.

Not to be pedantic, but its 11 miles from the track to the 7-11 on 68 and 218

Yeah, but we live in Salinas, these guys are all just afraid of the hype. Most of them wouldn't last 5 minutes trying to order from the ceviche wagon

And it's about a mile from the paddock to the gate. 1 + 11 + 11 + 1 == 24 miles round trip.
